Mine yes the accommodationwent really quickly at NTU, my DS has got a place in one of the private halls. We discovered private halls at another uni open day and they seem a good alternative.

Piggywaspushed · 07/03/2019 17:44

It's true OP, driving through Hull city probably was not the nicest approach to the uni! But DS didn't seem to notice that. We'd already visited Huddersfield by that point which you could add to your list of Hs, I reckon!!

Have discovered that the reduced offer (CCD) is not even based on him firming them, so that's very interesting!

He's in a jolly mood today ahvign had a good driving lesson and got a decent result back in one of his politics mocks.

Dd doesn’t have a printer, she uses the ones in her department I think. DS doesn’t either. There is an iron & ironing board in the communal kitchen in each flat at UEA Nelson Court.

Decorhate · 07/03/2019 19:12

minesawine Maybe he is feeling a bit overwhelmed about the fact that he has an offer for his favourite & doesn’t want to jinx it by getting too excited at this stage?

Whoever mentioned printers, there is usualky no need to have an individual one, most unis operate a card system that you can top up with credit & probably a lot of coursework is submitted electronically now

ElizabethBennetismybestfriend · 07/03/2019 19:19

RedHelenB what subject is your Dd studying? My Dd has firmed Liverpool for Psychology. We went to the offer day back in January and had a great time.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 07/03/2019 19:21

If it was me I only did so because the MN list mentions it - I hadn't even thought about buying everything but the kitchen sink!

Agree, I would have thought that some things would be provided - loo brushes for example????

Struggling to attach the list as a file so I've had to photograph it, hopefully you can read it. The order is a bit random and I'm sure there are things I've missed but hey, it's a start! DD is planning to go into self catering halls so if your DC is planning on catered then you can leave out most of the kitchen column (lucky you!)

Elizabethbennett dd is doing history. Its between Liverpool.and Durham . Hope she has a good day, she loves Liverpool.as a city and enjoyed the history talk on open day.

justasking111 · 07/03/2019 22:34

Thanks Juicy I managed to print the first page but my printer does not like page 2. DS reading it now.

BringOnTheScience · 08/03/2019 00:09

Is anyone still waiting to hear from Manchester? It's DC1's favourite, had an interview there last Weds, but still no offer.

TapasForTwo · 08/03/2019 08:44

What subject Bringon? DD applied there for biomed and never heard from them apart from an acknowledgement. She already has the required A level grades. She decided that she didn't really like Manchester anyway and withdrew her application.

Piggywaspushed · 08/03/2019 12:02

Heading off to Aberystwyth in an hour or so. Feeling rather poorly after a bad night's sleep and stomach upset but will power through.

Weather is set to be markedly chillier than 2 weeks ago when we went to Lincoln. I wonder how much that will affect DS's decision making. Certainly, miserable rain seemed to put him off Oxford Brookes.

ifonly4 · 08/03/2019 14:50

NewModelArmyMayhem18 Thanks. I hope Durham works out well for your DS. I bought laundry bags on Amazon, I got the bigger ones which were about £6/7. Have seen them since in some gift shops. DD's at a boarding school - we use them for easy packing, and in her case for dirty washing (instead of a laundry basket.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 08/03/2019 16:05

Hope you feel better soon, Piggy. Hope your DS appreciates you going above and beyond when you're not well. In my mind's eye I have a very positive view of Aberystwyth. Can only think it's because two of my yesteryear very significant people were students there!

Thanks for the tip, ifonly4. Off to investigate. Think my father had that sort of thing in his university days but that was a very long time ago.

Hope you feel better soon Piggy. Sadly, the weather does affect university visits in my experience. The first time we went to Manchester the weather was awful so we spent most of the time running between buildings or huddled in a coffee shop. The second visit was much better, and DD didn't hate Manchester. She did apply there, but they were so slow in responding, and as she preferred another university she withdrew her application. Their loss.

Itscoldouthere · 08/03/2019 17:01

Mind you, if you like it on a wet day it will be fantastic in the sunshine 😊
Hope you fell better soon Piggy.

Itscoldouthere · 08/03/2019 17:01

Feel

Piggywaspushed · 08/03/2019 18:22

Now here! The drive was long but beautiful. I am so glad I set off earlier and got here before dark mind as the last bit would have been scary in the dark. Sat nav also got confused because they have built a shiny new road literally in the middle of nowhere! I actually had forgotten how small the town is. It literally is a bit dead and run down looking. DS did notice this. However he has been looking up voting patterns and populations which he has not done for anywhere else.

DitheringDan · 09/03/2019 05:05

5 a.m. start for Swansea— urgh! Anyone else? See you in a few hours if so!

Shimy · 09/03/2019 07:54

Dithering We did Swansea some weeks ago, it was fab! Have a great day. We’re doing a Cardiff today, about to set off in about an hour.

eatinglesschocolate · 09/03/2019 08:53

Re York accommodation. It is open but doesn’t get allocated until results day when it’ll be done according to date applied for. That’s what they said at offer day. Somewhere on here or TSR there is a table of ‘likelihood’ of getting what you ask for. If I remember rightly Vanbrugh en-suite = very low. Constantine en-suite = very high. Once DD firmed York she’s had access to some ‘chat’ thing that gives a bit of insight into college rivalries/stereotypes etc but it all appears to be jokey rather than remotely nasty. Funnily enough, one of the colleges has made it onto her choices after reading the posts!🙄

ifonly4 · 09/03/2019 10:37

Hope the open day visits are helpful to you all.

DD has now completed her compositions and music performance for A level. She performed old pieces from a previoius grading, says it was the best she's ever played them and thinks she just dropped a couple of marks - let's hope she's rightSmile. Exam paper will be tough though. She's the only student for A level music, so annoyingly her teachers are going to have a fair idea of how many marks she's already picked up and won't be able to tell us.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 09/03/2019 11:11

Well done to your DD, ifonly4. When is the written exam for A Level music?

Piggy, how are you feeling, what's the weather like and how is the day going?

DitheringDan and Shimy hope your days both go well.

TapasForTwo as a family we were put off the NW universities by the thought of the damp, dreary climes...

Swansea is lovely! Really surprised. The course talk was excellent.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 09/03/2019 14:02

Fazackerley - sounds a really positive experience!
