New thread, I hope it's okay to start one.

Good luck today for those still waiting for interview news, which includes us.

Congratulations to those already with dates.

It is horrid how much pressure they feel, but even if they don't get an interview, at least their UCAS is all sorted in plenty of time, whereas the others are stressing about that now.

Wiifitmama ! ( how to tag ?)
dev.amsp.org.uk/ Found this by chance , have a look ?

Rianna · 26/11/2018 10:47

Oh I see someone had already posted this link 😃

Justanothermile · 26/11/2018 14:39

STILL no news here, I know it's illogical, but it feels unfair!

Wiifitmama ! ( how to tag ?)

If you want to send an email notification to someone (which only works if they've not turned off these notifications, obv) then @ followed by their full NN. If you just want to refer to someone on the thread then the usual convention bold the name or a distinctive part thereof - easiest way is to put an * either side of the name. (The asterisk markup is of course why threads referring to A level grades get weird bolding)

AtiaoftheJulii · 26/11/2018 17:23

choccy if this isn't just a list produced by the school like puzzled describes, then it sounds like a data protection issue!

choccyp1g · 26/11/2018 17:47

AtiaoftheJulii
It turns out a few of the boys had got a list going among themselves on WhatsApp, so nothing to worry about.

Justanothermile · 26/11/2018 19:08

Interview invitation arrived at 6pm tonight. 😁

Justanothermile - woohoo! Time to celebrate.

Puzzledmum · 26/11/2018 19:19

Justanothermile - congratulations! I just sent you a response on the other thread but it was clearly unnecessary! You can finally relax now !

Justanothermile · 26/11/2018 20:10

Thanks guys, she's upstairs working. I've agreed to drive her down, to avoid any unwanted travel stress (although she did it herself for the summer school), and then she'll make her own way back.

Pretty casual clothes, cord pinafore dress and jumper and insisting on her Doc's

5 out of 6 applicants at DS's school have heard, but one still hasn't, so you are not alone if you are still waiting for news!

Wiifitmama · 26/11/2018 20:54

@Coleoptera Your dt1's letter is in complete contrast to my ds's Cambridge letter. If offered overnight accommodation (we don't need it), meals (he has decided to arrive early enough to have lunch to experience it (paid for by the college) etc. It was very welcoming and didn't say any of the things you mention in yours! I wonder if it is very college dependant. Ds is interviewing at Emmanuel.

Dd finally has details of her interview. What Is the general view on staying overnight beforehand? The journey is doable on the day, but prone to delays which could prove stressful. Letter seemed to suggest only really for those travelling a distance.

Justanothermile · 26/11/2018 21:26

Interesting differences in approach.

Thanks coleoptera, are the interviews at least scheduled for different days?

Well done on the interview, sorry LIZS, is this Cambridge? The email for Dd wants them there the day before so it's easier to plan.

cathyandclare · 26/11/2018 21:29

Dd had an English interview at Clare. She was asked lots about the unseen text ( opening verse from a Jacobean play).

They had also asked for a list of her recent non-syllabus reading and they grilled her on a couple of those, which then extended into a comparison with other texts. That was quite tough, because she'd read them recreationally, rather than studied them.

She was asked a couple of things from her Ps but got the impression it was to warm her up, rather than being vital for interview success.

LIZS · 26/11/2018 21:34

Yes for Cambridge. Test and 2 interviews on one day.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/11/2018 21:54

Traffic round Cambridge can be bad, LIZS, though it may depend which direction you're coming from. I'd say it's best to stay nearby the night before if you can.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 26/11/2018 22:39

No letter invite here for DD for Cambridge, that she has her heart set on.

No 'thanks but no thanks' email either though.

PancakeMum6 · 26/11/2018 23:52

Hello, I have a year 12 DD and we’ve been looking at Sutton Trust summer schools - I was wondering if anyone had any experience of them? Thought this might be a good crowd to ask Grin

Good luck to all the DC for interviews! And I know those who’ve missed out will do amazingly wherever they end up.

Dustylaw · 26/11/2018 23:57

You can get the Oxford figures for interviews and admissions by googling the course and looking through Key Information.. The link for Law is given below. Interview rates vary quite dramatically between different courses. I think the message is it can be a brutal cut for those who weren’t called for interview so don’t feel you did badly. For those with an interview it’s really an achievement in itself. For those who get in we all know what strong competition there was. And for the tutors I just wonder how do you make the decisions from so many really excellent candidates? I am, btw, convinced tutors really do their best to make the best decisions they can but it must be a difficult choice. And for all our children congratulations and well done for putting themselves forward because it is hard to put yourself on the line when you know that statistics are so daunting. The tutors may have loved you but they don’t have a place for everyone they thought deserved it.

Justanothermile · 27/11/2018 07:37

I think goodbye posted all the relevant interview stats last week, three informative links.

Madeline. I honestly feel your pain. Dd only found out last night at 6pm. Everyone else seemed to know, it's awful. Fingers crossed for your Dd that it's soon.

pancake I only know about the UNIQ course, but would be very happy to answer any questions you may have. Dd says it's pretty much the best thing she's done.

The very best of luck for those still in the dark about decisions re interview. Here's hoping you hear today.

dustylaw ( I will have to ask the kids how to make bold letters, haha )
What an awful job for those tutors . I guess you get used to it . And I think it’s only human if they pick someone who engages with them well - they need to work together for a few years . That’s why they get interviews at more colleges . I’ve read up on it , happened to have the time ;-). I just find it all very exciting . Have been to oxford years ago as a tourist, and now my son is going for an interview !

Justanorthermile yay ! Happy for you .

As for what to wear : it’s informal so let the kids wear what they’re comfortable in .

What worries me is that my son is so keen. I’m afraid he would be very disappointed if he didn’t get in .

O and for everyone who hadn’t had an answer : I think they just have decided by now and must be in the process of sending out mails ...won’t be long ...good luck !
