Congratulations and commiserations to everyone, very bittersweet as Kitten says. We've been waiting with less and less hope all day and have now finally heard that DD was pooled and has an offer. Absolutely delighted for her but sad to hear several of her school friends not so fortunate

kaiserschmarrn · 10/01/2018 15:11

rhubarb He's doing Maths.

Hubble25 · 10/01/2018 15:28

:) :( Happy for the good news but sad for those who just missed out.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/01/2018 15:36

that's ace toomany!

I'm looking forward to dd getting home, I know she'll be having mixed feelings with some of her friends.

Really pleased that DS's best mates have both been given offers - one of whom is a twin and the twin got in too.

Feeling for everyone who is disappointed.

Dancingdreamer · 10/01/2018 16:25

My DD got offer from her pool college. She is delighted! Was screaming down the phone at me while I was at work! Sadly 2 of her best friends didn't get Cambridge.

Dancingdreamer · 10/01/2018 16:28

And should have said congratulatiins to everyone whose DCs got offers. So sorry for those that didn't make it and hope they love the uni they choose now.

papayasareyum · 10/01/2018 16:49

my daughter got rejected for engineering, she’s so gutted

veraaloe · 10/01/2018 16:59

For those who didn't receive an offer of a place today... chin up, there are lots of great unis with things like employer experience, year abroad, better locations for the individual etc.

DS was rejected last year so knows both feelings. If your ds/dd feel they want another go then they always can and have a fab year off working + travelling. Glitterball

Without being pessimistic as well, remind your DD, papaya that these are only offers of places so far, so many of DS's friends got offers and were awfully smug then didn't get the grades...Sad

Hubble25 · 10/01/2018 17:01

Sorry to hear that Papayas. Does she have a good second choice?

marcopront · 10/01/2018 17:08

Where did she apply Papaya?

I have good news as an aunt, my niece has an offer for Oxford.

Still waiting as a teacher, one of my students applied to Cambridge for engineering. He was told end of January though.

Str4ngedaysindeed · 10/01/2018 17:08

I'm really chuffed to hear of all the DC who got places! My ds applied but didn't even get an interview which was disappointing at the time but looking back, he feels relieved in a way as, although he's not daft(!), he knows it would have been extremely hard work. Oxbridge know who will and who won't perhaps deal with all the pressure and although I can imagine being even more disappointed if he'd had an interview and not got a place, it tends to all work out for the best. Big believer in fate, me! Anyway he is now struggling to choose between Exeter and UCL so we have all that to go through 😁

HeyBells · 10/01/2018 17:18

Congratulations to those with offers and many commiserations to those without. Good news here of an offer but no details yet. It does feel lucky though and could so easily have been the other way.

RaindropsAndSparkles · 10/01/2018 17:36

Congrats and commiserations. DD had to wait until 5.10 for her email, losing hope all afternoon. But she's in. Cambridge offer from college of choice Smile

Luckye · 10/01/2018 17:43

Just heard dd’s three friends who applied all got rejected 😕. For us the agony goes on as Dd has got to go for another interview on Saturday and no idea when they’ll let us know the outcome.
Congratulations to those who were successful and commiserations to those who weren’t.

roisin · 10/01/2018 17:46

Congratulations and commiserations all.

Remember, whatever the outcome today, the hard work starts here!

Hardwickwhite · 10/01/2018 18:04

That is great news Raindrops I had been thinking about her earlier.

voilets · 10/01/2018 18:07

What a day! Has been lovely and sad reading posts. Best wishes to all DC making their choices and working hard for those grades.
DD has a place. Proud of her.
Has been very supportive and informative reading here for so many weeks.WineBrewFlowers

Hollybollybingbong · 10/01/2018 18:12

Heartfelt congratulations and commiserations to everyone. What a journey!

Dd didn't get an offer and is heartbroken.
I have turned to Mumsnet for support throughout this process and on a previous thread was told that some schools treat applications to Oxbridge as a 2 year process, taking a year out and reapplying. DD and I discussed this before today and it has helped her to consider her options.
She will get her interview feedback and ELAT results and from there plan whether to accept one of her other offers or reapply next year.
She still has plenty of time before a decision needs to be made.
At the moment we are going to wallow in some disgustingly unhealthy desserts!

voilets · 10/01/2018 18:15

Meant to say, however sad some DC feel today and i sympathise, I just wish them all the best of luck in their studies and trust great unis will snap them up. Wink

marmiteloversunite · 10/01/2018 18:35

Well my DD surprised me by coming home quite chipper. Out of six girls that had interviews only one got an offer. All really bright girls so she does not feel bad about herself. Think she is relieved that she can enjoy the rest of her year and not slogging her guts out. Got to choose between Bristol and Kings now.

(Bit pissed off with head of year who told her it was always a long shot and he wasn't surprised. So much for the caring ethos!)

Hubble25 · 10/01/2018 18:42

No marmite that is not nice.

Hardwickwhite · 10/01/2018 18:44

Marmite thAt Head of year is an arse. Angry

rosegoldleaf · 10/01/2018 19:03

could I ask, My DD has been pooled and offered Girton college.Does anyone know anything about this college, in one way or another? I'm embarrassed to say, at her school, just a good state school, jokes were made prior to this offer about Girton.
Is ridiculous I know but what is it like? any knowledge on here.?

Sincere commiserations and congratulations to all. I've been lurking! here!
