OK, I know I'm a bit early, but let the hand-holding begin...

Come and join us if you (and your DC) are about to start the UCAS process in September - applying for a place in 2018.

I've got DS1, who wants to do Computer Science in 2018. Looking at various Russell Group unis and maybe Oxbridge.

Thank you for the flowers last night littledrummergirl. Smile.
I thought last year was stressful and very hard on Dd. But I didn’t expect this year to be worse !
There are other students who have Cambridge interviews that have been rejected from Rvc. I’m just wondering whether it’s a lucky dip process and they don’t actually go through the applications properly .
Anyhow on to the next one - Liverpool tomorrow.

bruffin · 07/12/2017 13:05

DD's ucas application went in on tuesday and she has been offered an interview with Oxford Brookes in a couple of weeks Shock , very scary!
Unfortunately she has work that day, not sure if they are flexible or not?

blueskypink · 07/12/2017 16:50

Devon - don't be surprised if Sussex follow up in January with an unconditional. They offer loads - 2 of mine got them (though neither went) as did their friends who applied. Dependent of course on firming them.

devondream · 08/12/2017 05:50

Thanks for the info bluesky. He would love an unconditional Smile.

SunshineTheMonkey · 08/12/2017 21:11

Sorry to be thick but what's Rvc? Is it veterinary college?

blueskypink · 08/12/2017 21:27

RVC = Royal Veterinary College

Littledrummergirl · 09/12/2017 01:22

It's been a good week for ds1, finally has the bloody questionnaire and has been offered an interview at the third of the universities he applied for.
Teta, I keep thinking of your Dd and hope she has had some good news also.

devondream · 09/12/2017 05:17

DS is a lucky boy. 4 offers this week including his top choice Nottingham Uni.

Only the stretch/ aspirational choice to go but it was never no 1 so all is good in his world.

I hope all other DC get the offers they want asap.

Princecharlesfirstwife · 09/12/2017 09:37

Latecomer to this thread but DD1 has had offers from her 5 choices for History. One unconditional from Aberystwyth based on her firming that offer but i think she'll knock that on the head. Her firm will probably be Sheffield (AAB) or Leeds (AAA), with Loughborough as her insurance (ABB).

As something of an A level flunker myself, those grades make me a little anxious (i swear back in my day you could get a BBB offer for a decent uni). So now we just sit and wait for the next eight months (and finish off that history coursework due in on Monday).

blueskypink · 09/12/2017 10:11

Princecharles - I know what you mean, but I found last year there was a fair bit of movement with DS's offers. In a number of cases original, eye-watering offers were followed up with reduced offers which I noticed were relaxed further in clearing. Hopefully it will be the same this year.

Depends on the institution of course, but Nottingham for example offered him Astar, A, A which at the offer holder day they said they would reduce to AAB for anyone firming. I noticed they were taking BBB in clearing.

spababe · 09/12/2017 17:33

I think it depends on the subject. My DS is now holding BBB and ABB offers. One is RG and the others are good Unis but not RG (1994 group)

blueskypink · 09/12/2017 17:51

Depends on the subject and the institution.

mymatemax · 11/12/2017 23:50

Hi all. Ds has all his offers with an unconditional from his second choice and interview on Wednesday for unconditional selection at his first choice. Fingers crossed.

Fluffythecat · 12/12/2017 10:50

Hello everyone, new to the thread. Apols if this has been asked before but DS applied to Durham in Oct and is anxiously wondering when they send out offers/rejections. Would really like to know before Jan cut off date - is that likely? Thx

bruffin · 12/12/2017 12:04

Durham is notorious for keeping people hanging on. Ds didnt hear until march or april that he hadnt got an offer.

Dd has got 2 more interviews with northampton and uea, so she is happy

goodbyestranger · 12/12/2017 14:00

Fluffy Durham does give out a good number of pre Christmas offers, but some subjects are much more likely to do that than others - a lot will depend on his subject.

Fluffythecat · 12/12/2017 14:29

Thank you both, that's helpful. DS has applied for Law

MollyHuaCha · 12/12/2017 15:10

We're still waiting to hear from the 5th uni. I'm guessing that means there's no offer coming?

Icouldbeknitting · 12/12/2017 15:23

Bear in mind that there are students who haven't submitted yet. The deadline is mid January and I know a few students who are still twiddling with the personal statement.

HesMyLobster · 12/12/2017 16:24

DD applied in the first week and is still waiting to hear from 2 universities
(3 if you include the one she interviewed at last week!)
Hers are her tied 2nd choices - Durham and St Andrews, both well known for late decisions, particularly in her subject.
It would be nice to hear from them before Oxford decisions day (even nicer if it was with an offer! - it would definitely help to soften the blow if she knew she had either of them)
She is happy with the 2 she has received though, and will happily put them as firm and insurance if she needs to.
As she and her friends keep reminding each other - you only need 1 offer!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/12/2017 18:13

Molly and Fluffy, please don’t worry, it really doesn’t mean anything if you’ve not heard yet.

MollyHuaCha · 12/12/2017 18:55

Thanks Oh. The university we're waiting for is the hardest to get into. But actually not the favourite out of the five.

It's unlikely to make a lower offer than the other places, so it probably doesn't matter too much anyway!

YellowPrimula · 12/12/2017 19:02

Prince Charles my offer from Durham in 1983 was BBC and that was considered high .The offers now are ridiculous

Fluffythecat · 12/12/2017 19:23

Thanks for the kind words of support OhYou

MollyHuaCha · 12/12/2017 20:08

I agree, the offers ARE ridiculously high. So far we have A*AA, AAB, ABB and BBB.

I think my own course a few decades ago was accessible with CCD.
