OK, I know I'm a bit early, but let the hand-holding begin...

Come and join us if you (and your DC) are about to start the UCAS process in September - applying for a place in 2018.

I've got DS1, who wants to do Computer Science in 2018. Looking at various Russell Group unis and maybe Oxbridge.

It’s difficult for them LDR, it’s such a stupid system this. I’m sure we will say it a million times by the end of August. Because we are deep into the process now, it was quite startling this week to remember that some dc haven’t decided which universities to put down yet. It’s absolutely fine of course that they haven’t, it’s a really difficult decision.

dd has heard from four out of five of her applications and I’m feeling really discombobulated that her lowest offer is A* A A. She’s fine with it, we knew it would be that way, but hearing about others on different competitive courses getting much lower offers feels a bit I dunno...

Our college deadline for the draft PS to go to tutors is next Monday. Most of his friends are still at the draft PS stage, going to open days and making their minds up. Parents of those who haven't submitted yet are silent here because they have nothing to say so it looks like "everybody" has submitted and is getting offers.

Morning all. I’ve been rejected for one uni for nursing which I was expecting as my education is very old (I’m 47!) but the other one which is the one I want has asked for more information which has to be in by today. So fingers crossed I’ll hear something next week?
DS only wants to go to one uni (v specific course/campus). Application went back to college for reference on Wednesday.
And the wait continues! Well done to all who’ve had offers. My DD is in her 3rd year now I can’t believe she’ll be qualifying next June (fingers crossed).

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/11/2017 09:22

that’s very true knitting.

Good luck Lolimax, nervous wait I’m sure.

janiedee · 11/11/2017 07:30

Application has gone to college, reference now done so final check being made, will be an even bigger bag of nerves soon!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/11/2017 09:22

Good luck Janiedee!

Littledrummergirl Dd hasn't heard from Bristol either .We haven't received the questionnaire yet. It is worrying to read about some offers made already but there will be months of offers being made in the future. My Dd didn't get any offers until late March last year. Some got offers before Christmas though. Just stay calm as it's a very long process and it's very important not to be side-tracked from school work ( this badly affected Dd last year).
Which vet schools is your Ds applying to?

Littledrummergirl · 14/11/2017 20:34

He's applied to Rvc, Notts, Bristol and Surrey. What about your ds Teta?
Ds1 is very calm at the moment, knowing they won't run out of offers before they get to him has helped. He spent his weekend concentrating on remembrance day, selling poppies on Saturday and marching on Sunday.
The last couple of days he's hit the books, put a revision plan in place and seems to have started to focus. It's definitely looking more positive at the moment. Grin

Littledrummergirl · 14/11/2017 20:34

Bloody autocorrect - your dd Teta.

teta · 15/11/2017 09:37

Dd is applying to Liverpool, Bristol, Rvc and Surrey. She has interviews coming up for Surrey & Liverpool but hasn't heard from Rvc or Bristol yet. Last year she was interviewed much later than her friends, ( for the same course) in spite of having good grades and everything else and received offers very much later .This really knocked her confidence and she's only just recovering this year. The application process often seems to be very random and it's quite common for results to be affected by traumatic applications. I probably didn't help by constantly asking her what was going on and being glued to The Student Room vet thread.😀
Having a year out has made dd far more laid-back, a lot more mature and better able to cope with things.

Crosswordfan · 15/11/2017 10:45

Going slowly mad. 32 days since DS submitted his UCAS form for English Literature and still no interview invites or offers😐

toucantoucan · 15/11/2017 12:47

DD has 3 offers in so far but is anxiously awaiting news from Exeter (Politics and Int. Relations). I hear on the grapevine that they take an age to come back to you - is that anyone else's experience? Has anyone else's DC had an offer already from there?

madnskint · 15/11/2017 13:15

Hi littledrummergirl and teta my Dc has also not heard anything and is getting quite worried. They have also applied to Bristol (no questionnaire yet), Surrey, Notts and RVc.

It's really tough isn't it

Str4ngedaysindeed · 15/11/2017 13:17

Ds had an interview at Exeter on the 4th and got an offer two days later. It is physics though so not sure about the other subjects

Ullathegreat · 15/11/2017 14:27

toucantoucan -- DD1 applied to Exeter for something similar (can't remember if it was Politics and IR or History and IR) a few years ago. Took months to hear back , but then received a surprisingly generous offer. The amount of time they have to wait seems to have little to do with the type of offer received.

Crossword, I think English offers can take forever, so just breathe! DD and friends' experience was that if they more or less had the right predictions for the course, they generally received offers. Getting the offers proved less difficult for some than getting the actual grades; in retrospect this was the easy part!

puppypower1 · 15/11/2017 14:49

toucantoucan - where has your DD applied? DS is applying for a similar course, although his form hasn't been submitted yet (still in the school system), so I'm afraid I can't give any feedback on speed of offers etc

Getting the offers proved less difficult for some than getting the actual grades; in retrospect this was the easy part!

^ based on watching friends go through this process last year, this is very true!!!

Lolimax · 15/11/2017 15:31

Well this 47 year old should be over the moon. I have an interview for nursing on the 29th which is great.
Except so far this week DS has been knocked off his motorbike by a hit and run driver and DD wants to take a year out of uni. Luckily DS has got away with sprains and severe bruising but you know when life all feels a bit much?

toucantoucan · 15/11/2017 15:35

Ullathegreat thanks that's very reassuring
puppypower1 she applied for Leeds, Bath, Durham and Loughborough as well as Exeter. Offers in from Leeds, Bath and Loughborough which obviously she is pleased about but I think ti will come down to Exeter vs. Bath for her in terms of first choice so she's quite anxious to know if she will get an offer from Exeter!

HesMyLobster · 15/11/2017 16:48

Lolimax wow what a week!
Congratulations on your interview, that’s brilliant news!
I hope your ds recovers quickly, how scary!

Icouldbeknitting · 15/11/2017 18:17

Lolimax congratulations on your interview. I am sorry about all the other stuff overshadowing it and I hope it all resolves for the good soon.

teta · 15/11/2017 20:15

Gosh Lolimax I bet you don't know what to feel at the moment. Your news is so brilliant though.
Welcome madnskint. Its nice to hear from other prospective Vet candidates. Remember if it all goes tits-up this year your dc can apply again next year. Most places welcome re-applications.

Crosswordfan · 15/11/2017 20:24

Thanks for the reassurance Ullathegreat.

Littledrummergirl · 15/11/2017 22:57

Lolimax you've had an eventful week! Well done to you and I hope Ds is better soon.
Madnskint have a read of the early v late application thread, I found it reassuring and it has calmed ds1 nerves somewhat. He is getting back to more like his usual self.
At least people are starting to hear now. Wine

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/11/2017 22:04

Congratulations Lolimax :) your poor ds though.

Littledrummergirl · 17/11/2017 21:57

Ds1 still hasn't heard from Bristol but has had an interview date for January. He hasn't stopped smiling.
Anyone else?
