OK, I know I'm a bit early, but let the hand-holding begin...

Come and join us if you (and your DC) are about to start the UCAS process in September - applying for a place in 2018.

I've got DS1, who wants to do Computer Science in 2018. Looking at various Russell Group unis and maybe Oxbridge.

Well done littledrummergirls Ds. I guess the hardest thing is waiting for your first interview. Which Vet school is it?

HesMyLobster · 18/11/2017 11:12

Oh that’s brilliant news Drunmer! Smile

hobbema · 18/11/2017 11:40

DS got a conditional offer from Durham yesterday. Anyone else heard? V surprised ( and thrilled, please do some work...!) as Durham known to be late to offer

Littledrummergirl · 18/11/2017 12:43

Thank you all.
Teta, it's Surrey. As far as we can work out between us from looking for trends (and we may be way off base)-RVC have started sending interview offers to grad students and Notts are yet to start.
Bristol are working in batches.
Ds1 had an email telling him about the societies a few hours before the interview offer. We took this as a good sign. As far as we can tell they seem to be organised by date and alphabet.
Hopefully you guys will hear soon.

DS went to an interesting and well organised Physics department open day at Southampton on Wednesday. Sat an exam for an academic award, and had an informal interview.
Anyone else waiting for Physics offers ?
He has had A*AA offered from Bath, which seems to have very high standards.

Lolimax · 18/11/2017 15:24

Well done to everyone who’s DC’s have had offers/interviews and thanks for your kind words to me. My DS is well on the mend. His own uni application is (still) waiting for college reference but I’m hoping it’ll be done this week coming.

MollyHuaCha · 18/11/2017 20:53

Ucas application submitted at last. Now the wait begins...

teta · 19/11/2017 19:52

Is your ds's on a Saturday littledrummergirl ? Dd has hers next Saturday which is a very funny time to have an interview. I'm also trying to remember the format of last years interview but failing badly Confused. Dd also has a Liverpool interview in December booked, but still no Bristol Questionaire .I'm hoping we will hear from the Rvc soon as well. Last year Nottingham were the first interviews of the season so it's interesting that this year they are not interviewing before Christmas .Liverpool were the most ruthlessly efficient - Dd heard within 15 days after the interview .Bristol interviewed in Batches up until March 2017 and from November .I remember some getting really early offers last year.

Littledrummergirl · 21/11/2017 09:08

Ds1 interview is a Wednesday. I have no idea of format (hopefully he does). I don't think that will matter too much though as long as his intelligence and enthusiasm for the subject comes across.

Still haven't heard from Bristol though...

MollyHuaCha · 21/11/2017 20:10

Can anyone say which subjects tend to give applicants interviews and which subjects go just for offers based on grades (or straight rejections of course...)?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/11/2017 21:42

It depends on the university Molly.

madnskint · 22/11/2017 07:26

My DD heard that they have an interview at Surrey last night. I have no clue about vet interviews (and I’m not sure my Dd does either) but like littledrhmmer I hope that their abilities shine through.
She also hasn’t heard from any other universities yet- which is tough when they. Know someone who has.

Crosswordfan · 22/11/2017 08:09

At last, an interview invitation! What a relief. At least something is happening.

teta · 22/11/2017 09:25

Brilliant news madnskint. It is difficult when others hear first - Dd was in the same situation last year. It’s all rather random and some process in batches ( namely Bristol). However interviews are normally over a few weeks and there will be plenty of interviews yet to be arranged. Sometimes it’s an advantage to be interviewed later!
It’s far more important to concentrate on your A levels at this stage though I’m well aware that the pressure cooker environment of year 13 is very stressful.Plus the actual Vet application process can be very tough.

Harriedgymmum · 23/11/2017 17:19

Just wondering if anyone can give me an idea of the format used for an interview for a degree in children’s nursing? My daughter has two dates so far but we are unsure how the day will pan out, likely finish time, etc. Any useful information would be appreciated.

Lolimax · 23/11/2017 18:55

Harriedgymmum my own Adult Nursing interview is next week (I’m 47!) but the uni has a lot of info on its website and gave advice on the open day. I’ve done research on NMC, the Francis Report and Mid Staffs. They will ask why that specific type of nursing plus a scenario. Also experience of care and what it means I think. HTH.

Littledrummergirl · 23/11/2017 20:52

Yay madnskint, that's fab news. Grin

toomanytolist · 27/11/2017 19:53

hobbema DD got an offer from Durham today - very pleased!

Risotto301 · 28/11/2017 07:15

congrats toomany! what course is that for?

now my DS has got 4/5 of the offers, including a lenient one for Imperial! we can be chilled in waiting for Oxford's interview shortlist. but since seeing in last two days a few posts on TSR reporting interview offers for DS' course (different colleges though), my nerve got wracked up again!

MissConductUS · 28/11/2017 20:51

DS got his first offer today from one of his "safety" (insurance) schools here in the US, so it's starting up here as well.

hobbema · 28/11/2017 21:24

toomanytolist that’s great! It’s really motivating for them isn’t it? DS did an open application initially, all seemed unreal and out of reach but has asked for a college now. Makes me think he is finally getting his act together...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/11/2017 13:20

Nice to hear about more offers coming in. Well done everyone’s dc!

TMUA results are out today for those who took it.

Dumbledoresgirl · 29/11/2017 14:00

Hello everyone, I am new to this thread but thought I would look in here as my dd is applying to uni this year and has started to get some offers. In fact, she found out on Monday that Birmingham have given her an unconditional offer, and then today, Newcastle have given her a conditional offer. Newcastle is her preferred choice, with Birmingham second so she really isn't all that bothered about hearing from the other 3 unis.

Can anyone explain how unconditional offers work? Does it really mean she has a place no matter what grades she gets in her A levels? Obviously she will now have to make Birmingham her first choice for the unconditional offer to apply, but she still prefers Newcastle if she can get the grades. What happens if you put an unconditional offer first (to qualify for it) but want to take up your second choice?

puppypower1 · 29/11/2017 15:34

Dumbledoresgirl - congrats to your DD ! What a fantastic position to be in. I understand that once you firm an unconditional offer, you don't need an insurance. So if she firms the Birmingham unconditional, then she won't be able to insure anything, because regardless she is going to Birmingham. So she needs to make sure she is very happy with that decision. What subject is she planning to study?

LIZS · 29/11/2017 15:39

Dumbledoresgirl, in that situation she would have to go into Adjustment on results day as effectively confirming an unconditional offer makes other offers void. It eases the exam pressure and you can usually apply for accommodation earlier. However there is school of thought that candidates may not perform as well as they might otherwise have.
