How's everyone feeling? My dd was pretty much able to forget about results during July but said in a very quiet voice this morning, "I'll find out this month where I'm going."

Is anyone doing anything yet in preparation for 17th? Should we be doing anything yet in preparation for 17th?!

Travelledtheworld, it's hard to be strong and positive and have to pull your kids up when they're down when inside you're crying - sending you a big hug. X

FreedaDonkey · 17/08/2017 12:51

Travelled, give her a hug and then a push. Get on the phones and try try try BrewFlowers

cowgirlsareforever · 17/08/2017 13:00

Has she looked at Liverpool Travelled?

dingit · 17/08/2017 13:01

Travelled I feel for you both. I really thought that would be us too. My dd was just so lucky, excepted with three slipped grades. I hope it works out for the best. Flowers

cowgirlsareforever · 17/08/2017 13:02

Hull is also well regarded for Politics.

DimsieMaitland · 17/08/2017 13:02

Travelled Dd1 got a B in her AS last year in the subject she now has a place for at Cambridge. All may not be lost.

FreedaDonkey · 17/08/2017 13:04

DS will be getting his results this time next year, does anyone mind telling me what their DCs offers were and what they were accepted on?

I'm hoping it might help him decide on where to apply Wine

cowgirlsareforever · 17/08/2017 13:25

Travelled Liverpool University are still advertising Politics on their clearing site. They require BBC. Hull are not specifying grades. They are recommending people should ring them and have a chat.

Lucysky2017 · 17/08/2017 13:40

Freed, son 1 Bristol offered AAB. Got AAB. So met his offer.

Son 2 offered AAA Bristol. He got AAA. Been accepted on despite not getting the A. he did get AAAA last year in AS and he was expected to get an A* so I think it's reasonable they still let him in.

tobee · 17/08/2017 13:41

Do Liverpool definitely require BBC? Because there standard offer is ABB

tobee · 17/08/2017 13:50

Ahhh! DS has place at Kent on insurance but applied to Liverpool originally but chose different for firm. Politics. Do I tell him to reject Kent and try Liverpool in clearing? Liverpool RG Kent not.

cowgirlsareforever · 17/08/2017 13:52

That's what it's saying on their clearing website tobee.

user9512736123 · 17/08/2017 13:53

Freeda - predicted Aaa

  1. offered A*aa at two RG unis for BSc which were 3rd and 4th choices.
  2. offered BBC at non RG for insurance.
  3. turned down for the MSci at one RG.
  4. Offered Aab at another RG for BSc for firm.

Got A*aa and got confirmation of a place at uni 4 but on the MSci not BSc.

user9512736123 · 17/08/2017 13:55

Sorry that's not clear
Offered a star aa at two
Offered Aab at another
Got a star aa and accepted offered at Aab uni for MSci.

Travelledtheworld · 17/08/2017 13:59

Thanks for all your advice everyone.
She is being very sensible and systematic and phoning round the universities with vacancies.

She has just been offered a place at Liverpool as long as she takes it with another minor subject. Thinking about that one.

She's current,y having a telephone interview with someone else.

Her Dad, who didn't go to university is being a real plonker and saying things like " well if she didn't spend so much time gaming she would have got better grades etc etc" yes, we KNOW THAT but saying that doesn't help. She is sorting herself out and be grateful she is a kind, friendly and intelligent girl who is eager to leave home and stand on her own two feet.

tobee · 17/08/2017 14:01

Yes cowgirl I've now checked. DS too tired to decide. Don't know what to do! I know he has some time but... And school are closed for the day now.

BizzyFizzy · 17/08/2017 14:03

Travelled, my eldest DD was playing computer games during her A-levels, even during study leave.

Consequently, she missed her firm offer, and went to her insurance.

This has turned out great for her, and she has just finished her second year on track for a first. She definitely learnt her lesson about study habits, and I'm sure your DS will too.

cowgirlsareforever · 17/08/2017 14:03

Huge decisions to make! I hope they all get sorted out.
Has your dd visited Liverpool travelled?

Travelledtheworld · 17/08/2017 14:10

Cowgirls no she has never
been to Liverpool but I am all poised to drive her there to have a look round and her best friend is going to Manchester so they would be happy.
. We live in the Cotswolds so she would really benefit from a big Northern City experience. It's very nice hear bit rather boring for an 18 year old.
Swansea also just phoned to speak to her........

sadusername2 · 17/08/2017 14:12

Dd is in limbo, Cambridge haven't rejected her yet, but she has missed her offer, getting a low B in her what she considered to be her best subject. The other two were really high A*s. Looking on here she is not the only one to get a random low mark for a subject they normally do well in.
We have asked for remark however if her grade doesn't change, should she accept her place at very good insurance choice or take a Gap year and resit. Do top universities 'accept' resits. She also got A star in EPQ.

Travelledtheworld · 17/08/2017 14:13

Bizzy that's encouraging.
I was shocked by the number of students in halls at Leeds who had playstations in their study bedrooms. Told mine she could not take hers.
Whatever happened to partying, mass cooking, talking to each other ?

Molecule · 17/08/2017 14:14

A, A, A so has withdrawn her application and is going to try for Cambridge, which she should have done but had slightly iffy AS results and school advised against it. We're pleasantly surprised as DD is not too keen on working hard, but did make a bit of an effort from Easter onwards.

FreedaDonkey · 17/08/2017 14:16

Tobee can he call Liverpool to see if they still have places?

I would see how the land lies before rejecting.

FreedaDonkey · 17/08/2017 14:17

And thanks v much to those who have shared offers/grades. V helpful

cowgirlsareforever · 17/08/2017 14:17

I think she'd enjoy it then travelled. It's RG too which is something to consider.
