How's everyone feeling? My dd was pretty much able to forget about results during July but said in a very quiet voice this morning, "I'll find out this month where I'm going."

Is anyone doing anything yet in preparation for 17th? Should we be doing anything yet in preparation for 17th?!

Travelled, my sons have a friend or two in that position. It can work out fine. My older son went to Reading via clearing 10 years ago. As I was saying to my boys earlier loads of things go wrong for us all in life and it's just how we deal with them that matter really.

Mine haven't even checked accommodation yet. We can do that when they get back from school having got the grades... ah a text.... AAB and AAA. So the one who needed AAA was taken with AAA. That seems fair enough to me. As are a bit unpredictable.

GrimDamnFanjo · 17/08/2017 09:50

Confirmation from our insurance offer now so off to Liverpool :)

Auntpetunia2015 · 17/08/2017 10:01

grammy78. DS got accepted into the foundation course as well..and is chuffed, it's still the same course just over 4 years. Hope your all feeling happier about it now.

Lucysky2017 · 17/08/2017 10:33

Mine has requested his paper back where there is the slightly dubious "B" grade. That sounds sensible to me in that case, not that a B is bad, but it was surprising for him in that subject as he had A at AS feeding in, it all went well, best i the year at that subject, his university subject, won the class prize in it, had As all 2 years in it. He might of course have done so badly on the day it pulled down his A at AS so the average ended up with this B. We shall see.

aginghippy · 17/08/2017 10:37

DD got AAA, so missed her firm offer of A*AA to do mechanical engineering at Bristol. Her Track has not updated, she is still waiting to find out if they will accept her with the dropped grade.

Poor thing! It's really hard for her when her friends now know where they are going.

aginghippy · 17/08/2017 10:39

It occurs to me that they might offer her another course. Maybe the BEng rather than the MEng she applied for. Do you think that's likely?

user9512736123 · 17/08/2017 10:41

Well done @Lucysky2017 - Bristol here as well with A*AA. No need for the contextual offer!

Lucysky2017 · 17/08/2017 10:42

Ah he got AAAD in the 4 papers in that "B" subject and all the year got a low mark in that 4th paper and that seems to have dragged his grade from A to B despite A in AS level.

Ocies · 17/08/2017 10:56

If track hasn't updated I suggest a call to the university - this happened to my ds 4 years ago and was offered another course at his firm choice. The new course offer was very similar. He has now graduated having had a fantastic university experience.

Lucysky2017 · 17/08/2017 10:59

And apparently everyone in the year got a low mark only on that one paper. Sounds a bit strange. That you can get all As in everything, then this weird D in one of a lot of papers nad it means you get B is a bit mean. Also it was a really low mark 50/100. He has never in any paper in any subject got that low.

aginghippy · 17/08/2017 11:02

Ocies She called the university, but couldn't get through, had to leave a voice mail.

user9512736123 · 17/08/2017 11:10

Ds has just logged onto the uni web page to do the registration and they've put him on the four year Msci not the three year BSc that he applied for 😀

Eusebius · 17/08/2017 11:21

Congratulations to everyone and to those who didn't get the right grades, wish you all the best with clearing or finding alternative routes.

movingalong · 17/08/2017 11:23

update. he has been accepted onto his insurance choice with a*ac when it needed aab. same uni as firm, which needed aaa. but he is very pleased as he was set on going there.

the dropped grade was in maths, preficted a*. school say loads have not met their predicted grades.

faith and courage to all still waiting, strength to those fighting through clearing and well done to everyone else.

Carriemac · 17/08/2017 11:23

both my twins got their first choice, same grades A* A B, one off to Oxford and one leeds. Couldn't be happier.

Hollybollybingbong · 17/08/2017 11:28

DS accepted by Birmingham with AAC, he wants elements of the Further Maths C grade remarked. He says he's happy but I have shown more joy about a dentist appointment than he is currently showing!

Lucysky2017 · 17/08/2017 11:28

Well done to everyone including the Carriem twins. I had thought one of mine might get an A in one subject but no, not that it matters. AAA and AAB is fine. I suspect the AAB might be an AAA on a remark so they might end up with the same grades, but that might just be my optimism. No As probably vindicates their decision not to try for Oxbridge (and no one who applied got Oxbridge offers in this year from their school) and they were not keen to try. It is all fine and Bristol will be good.

Abra1d · 17/08/2017 12:00

Travelled my son was in the same position two years ago and ended up going somewhere fantastic and all was fine.

tobee · 17/08/2017 12:07

Plus should he phone firm which he missed by one grade?

tobee · 17/08/2017 12:08

Wrong thread Grin

Eve · 17/08/2017 12:17

Accommodation now all applied for! He's going to have to slum it in a single room with shared bathroom, not paying the extra for ensuites!! But he's not bothered thankfully!

Travelledtheworld · 17/08/2017 12:22

Cowgirls she had set her heart on politics at Leeds.

doglover · 17/08/2017 12:22

AAA + A* - Oxford!

Unbelievably happy!

My DS has just come back from school bitterly disappointed with his AS results. They are actually not too bad but have squashed his plans of trying for Cambridge.
So it's really grim in our household and I am forcing myself to keep busy rather than lock myself in my bedroom and have a sob.
Deep breath.

Travelledtheworld · 17/08/2017 12:31

...and daughter sitting in her room in clearing but has already had two "No"s from the universities she didn't make the grade for first time round. I now have to convince her to keep trying.
