Maybe because it is August tomorrow - but seems to have come round quickly. Had a nice break not thinking about anything since last exam and after full on year choosing, applying, getting rejected, getting offers etc....

Might as well switch off and try and get distracted for the next 18 days....as either way it will be v busy few days/weeks after results to get started on next phase of his life.

PFB -- any old hands out there want to give me a slap?

DS has also been in the bubble and I haven't told him about the grade boundaries. I wasn't going to look at the physics ones, I really wasn't, but couldn't stop myself and now I rather wish I hadn't!

I ought to take him for driving practice today as he has his test next week but I'm a bit worried he might be too distracted.

Grade boundaries are hideous for English. DD is not aware they are out and I don't plan on telling her. Typical stress dream last night where I was inching my way along an ice covered, very narrow precipice with DD 1000's of feet up and no way of getting off it. Horrible dream

EllenJanethickerknickers · 17/08/2016 10:47

Less than 24 hours! DS1 can get his STEP results from midnight tonight. I don't think there'll be much sleep tonight. I'm not sure if I want to look at grade boundaries. At least DS is working so can't dwell on it too much.

I've no idea if being so involved is helpful or whether DS just wishes I'd butt out. None of us know for sure, Biglaugh.

Sorry to hear about MIL, home. We had similar two years ago just before GCSE results when my mum died and having to organise a funeral instead of celebrating. Sad

IDismyname · 17/08/2016 10:51

Oh, sorry to hear about your row, Big - I think we (and that includes our DCs) are all trying to keep a lid on it. Some are managing better than others!

DS is out tonight at a BBQ, then going straight to work from there tomorrow morning... so the next communication I'll probably get from him will be his grades.

I'd like him to be around, but maybe its best he comes home tomorrow evening, and we deal with whatever needs dealing with.

He's taking a gap year, so we'll manage. (Keeps lid on rising panic)

Mycatsabastard · 17/08/2016 11:16

Can you get the results online? DD has planned to go into school in the morning but if we can find out tonight .....!

She needs double Distinction * on her double sports b-tech and at least a C in maths to get the points for uni. She's got a place waiting... just need these results.

poppledopple · 17/08/2016 11:22

Mycat ... UCAS track online at 8am tomorrow will tell her if she has her place or not if she logs on .... But results are from school directly - each school is doing different things - some allow students to come in an pick at a specific time - or log on to school website at a specific time. My DS is not allowed to go to school but can log on for his results at 8am.

Also thought that BTec result were out in June?

Grade boundaries. Dear god. A whole other level of potential stress. Not engaging. Fingers in ears.

Biglaugh · 17/08/2016 11:59

Thanks for support peeps.
I think we do get over-involved but hard not to buy into it all...

Mycatsabastard · 17/08/2016 12:36

DD hasn't got her B-tech results, she didn't finish until July. Maybe the June one was for AS level, she's now finished school.

Janjanmama · 17/08/2016 12:45

Take care Home. Flowers It is really a hard time for you and your family. Hope bright side will be on you tomorrow.

Dd has read the grade boundaries and found that the possible miss becomes more possible. She is in danger!

Worse thing is, we cannot go to school to get the results. Everything has to be done online or on phone - long distance call. Sigh.

hellsbells99 · 17/08/2016 12:57

Homes - thinking of you all Flowers

Dunlurking · 17/08/2016 14:49

I have just updated my DT clearing app. Ds has agreed on one alternative course at his firm university, and one alternative university (that he turned down an offer from) offering his course in Clearing that is likely to be asking for higher grades than he will have if he's missed his firm and insurance! When I suggest universities he's visited that are lower down the league tables he just says he's not going there. I have no idea whether to panic or not!

What is everyone doing now to distract themselves? I am going to bake a celebration cake, in hope of good news.

hennipenni · 17/08/2016 15:04

I'm winding DD up apparently so trying to step back a little. She's not made any plans if she doesn't get her firm, she's had several friends contact her who are waiting for tomorrow so she's had a good moan with them to let of a bit of steam!

hobobulate · 17/08/2016 15:20

can I join you all
will be getting ds1 results from school at 7am tomorrow. He has looked at the grade boundaries (I didn't tell him!) and is worried about his main subject.
He says he's not going to bother getting his STEP results Shock He doesn't need them for his offers and he doesn't think one one of them went very well. I'm trying to persuade him he should at least get the results....but will get the important ones out the way first.
I am SO nervous! I'm sure I'm more nervous than when it was me getting my results all those years ago.
and I'm another one also waiting for GCSE results next week as well.....sigh...

poppledopple · 17/08/2016 15:22

Spending most of my time on here is my distraction / coping method ....

Cocolepew · 17/08/2016 15:26

Im just in, me and DH went for a pub lunch. DD is out with my brother and will go back to my mums for a few hours.
Trying to sleep will be the worst bit. I start imaging different senarios in my head and what I'm going to say in them Hmm

dottygamekeeper · 17/08/2016 15:39

I haven't posted since early on in the thread, but have been lurking. Another sleepless night here, but this morning I was running a training course in London which proved a good distraction. I am refusing to look at grade boundaries and haven't mentioned to DD that they are out (though I am sure she probably knows) - I just have to get back home tonight ready to face whatever the morning brings!

electricflyzapper · 17/08/2016 15:40

Any idea why I cab access the AQA grade boundaries, but not the OCR ones? When I click on the link, it comes up for one millisecond, then reverts back to the OCR homepage or Google.

Good luck to all tomorrow. I am very nervous, but ds2, whose results they are, is completely refusing to discuss anything with me. He did seem a bit cheered by the relevant AQA grade boundaries though.

TwuntingCat · 17/08/2016 15:45

electric I'm finding the opposite! I'm managing to view DD's OCR psychology ones but not her AQA accounting ones.

poppledopple · 17/08/2016 15:49

DS yesterday directly emailed the only 3 uni's depts with clearing places for his course......one has just replied to say they do not have spaces and are aware that UCAS have listed it wrong.....!!! Down to 2 clearing options then .... Glad he didn't spend hours on hold tomorrow morning to dept that was never in clearing ....!!

Smile Quite.

DS was all over them anyway, though. He's now muttering darkly about Further Maths.

www.ocr.org.uk/Images/322747-as-a-level-grade-boundaries-june-2016.pdf Does this work...??

OP posts:
hobobulate · 17/08/2016 16:03

just5 yes, it is Further Maths that DS is now worrying about. That was his main subject and it is all looking a bit touch an go now.....
