Maybe because it is August tomorrow - but seems to have come round quickly. Had a nice break not thinking about anything since last exam and after full on year choosing, applying, getting rejected, getting offers etc....

Might as well switch off and try and get distracted for the next 18 days....as either way it will be v busy few days/weeks after results to get started on next phase of his life.

PFB -- any old hands out there want to give me a slap?

Well, we've just come back from camping so have a huge pile of washing and drying to distract me from the fact we had to drive past DS's firm choice Uni on the way home.

We have to drive past it again next week, feels weird knowing it will be his Uni or not the next time we pass it!

TaIkinPeace · 17/08/2016 16:55

I reminded DD this morning before she headed out to work that there is absolutely no point stressing about boundaries or any of that rubbish now as the exams were taken in June.

We are all pretty chilled now.
If she's in, she's in and if not then we deal with it once we know the whole picture.

At least next week with DS I'm pretty sure he's got the grades to get into the college and the courses he's booked.

electricflyzapper · 17/08/2016 17:08

Does this work..

Weirdly, NO! Same thing, I click on it, it appears for a millisecond, then goes. If anyone can access it, all I want to know is what are the A* and A grade boundaries for Further Maths.

Also, from what I can gather here, the unis already know who has made the offers. So theoretically, a student could receive confirmation of their place before they find out their results? Anyone know if Durham does this?

electricflyzapper · 17/08/2016 17:15

Never mind, I finally accessed the OCR results and can't make head or tail of them. Plus ds is not playing ball. I guess I will have to wait till tomorrow like everyone else.

LIZS · 17/08/2016 17:16

I believe the UCAS tracker shows all at same time. Unis will have confirmed or refused places based on grades. If you achieve firm that will be accepted. If you miss firm but make insurance they will accept automatically. Even if offer grades are not quite matched the application may be reviewed and accepted without needing to do anything. So even if accepted, grades may not necessarily turn out to have achieved the offer.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 17/08/2016 17:18

Electricfly, is that MEI maths or regular maths? I had it up earlier for DS1. FP2? What other options? DS did M2, M3 and S2.

AtiaoftheJulii · 17/08/2016 17:24

So theoretically, a student could receive confirmation of their place before they find out their results?

Yes, dd1 managed to log on to Track at about 7.40 am last year, so knew she had her place, which made opening the envelope less stressful.

They say officially Track goes live again at 8 am, but it seems like a lot of people can get on before then.

HOWEVER, even if you can log on, your track might not have been updated yet, so if it doesn't say you have a confirmed place, it doesn't necessarily mean you've missed your offer, might just mean your update is a bit slow.

Feeling very nervous here but I had a meeting at work today and it reminded me how precious health is. Tomorrow is a huge day of course but at the end of it if we've got our wonderful dc in our arms, whether with 20 A* or 1 U, we and they will be ok. Whatever the results, feel lucky because we are.

lovedaisychains · 17/08/2016 17:44

Have lurked for a long time , just wanted to wish everyone well for tomorrow , my DS appears unfazed at the moment so it feels wrong to discuss a plan b , c etc when I really want to

Just5minswithDacre · 17/08/2016 18:05

just5 yes, it is Further Maths that DS is now worrying about. That was his main subject and it is all looking a bit touch an go now.....

Not much more waiting and they'll know.

At least it's now wine o'clock.

Just got back to work and have caught up with the thread. I'm now officially nervous. We've run out of wine so I'm going to have to raid DH's beer fridge.

DD is reasonably ok - asked her about grade boundaries and she didn't say very much. Not sure if that's good or bad!

ReadyToSignOff · 17/08/2016 18:44

Thanks for all the advice here - I have spent the day reading through this thread. My son seems like he couldn't care less what happens tomorrow - I have remained calm up till now 😬 Husband away in US with work until Friday, so it's all down to me in the morning as DS will need a bit of encouragement to ring unis, etc, if things don't go according to Plan A. I didn't have to worry about my daughter two years ago, as she received an early unconditional offer on her first choice course, which was very lucky for her as she wouldn't have coped with the stress. Plan B (clearing) is now mapped out thanks to people on this thread, but as DS wants to study engineering, grade requirements for respected unis/courses will remain quite high. I don't think it would be worth his while to accept a low grade course as the industry requirements are quite high - it would be better to take a different route. My main concern that his plan C is to join the Royal Engineers (no real problem with that - my husband and I met in the forces)... as a bomb disposal specialist 😟

poppledopple · 17/08/2016 18:46

So schools will know today DCs grades will they know if they have been accepted or not?

OP posts:
titchy · 17/08/2016 18:51

Schools won't know the grades today! They'll be able to download them from the boards early tomorrow morning but they won't have them now.

LIZS · 17/08/2016 18:53

We were told Hods have them to review today. Ours will initiate remarks if they feel it critical.

useyourimagination · 17/08/2016 19:01

Schools get the results today as do the universities but I don't think they will necessarily know whether uni offers are confirmed or not.

DD's friend's mother is the exam officer at the school and she gets them a day early (ie. today).

Hassled · 17/08/2016 19:01

Oh blimey ReadyToSignOff - if Plan C is bomb disposal expert, he really needs to get Plan A or B sorted. Fingers crossed for you - and everyone.

I've decided alcohol is tonight's solution and have already cracked open the Sauvignon. I'm sure dealing with tears and Clearing in the morning will be much easier with a hangover Hmm.

raspberryrippleicecream · 17/08/2016 19:07

DS's course which we knew was in clearing put the grades up today. DS had their standard offer of A*AA and the clearing grades are AAB. If he has slipped but still fits that criteria, can they turn him down?

Decorhate · 17/08/2016 19:10

Schools have had access to the results since midnight. Staff will have been in since early today downloading the results, checking them & stuffing envelopes ready to hand out tomorrow

electricflyzapper · 17/08/2016 19:11

Ellenjane, thanks for your response. I can't answer, I'm afraid. Blush I just know he did OCR further maths, not which modules. I could ask him, but he is cutting me dead at the moment- a sure sign that he is very tense. Anyway, I did finally access the grade boundaries and tbh, they tell me nothing.

I am so nervous about this. We went through this 2 years ago with ds1. He did very badly but managed to get onto a foundation course at his second choice uni. I doubt that would be an option for ds2 at his high profile choice of unis.

Decorhate · 17/08/2016 19:12

But they won't know if pupils have been accepted on UCAS. Universities have had the results for a few days.

LIZS · 17/08/2016 19:24

No that's true. However they will probably have a reasonable idea what room for manoeuvre there may be, if any, especially for courses already in clearing. Dc instructions are to check UCAS tracker first thing and go in from 8 am if no place confirmed.

Peebles1 · 17/08/2016 19:25

Well I've had a glass of wine and a bag of dolly mixtures and it's not working!!

DD going out 'to distract myself'.
