UCAS forms sent - just the waiting game now !

My super organised DD1 has had email today to say her forms/reference have been received and should be at her chosen Unis in the next 48 hrs !!!!! So the waiting begins - to those seasoned parents who have done this before can you remember how long they had to wait for their first responses ? At least 2 out of her 5 may call her for interview (MFL) so am guessing these might be fairly on the ball ?

Mumee and Molly

Thanks.

I have no idea if her year one can be cashed in or not, so I will get her to ask in college. She has very good results, so if she has the choice, will show them. She thinks they have lecture today on preparation for the interviews and on UCAS forms so I told her to ask because I don't know for sure. College want her to be ready to apply by the end of November.

DD2s went off today. DD1 was applying four years ago and there really was no pattern to which unis replied early and late, unis that offered early to her offered late to others even for courses in the same faculties. Durham kept her and a fair few waiting but then offered early to others. There are so many variables you just have to sit on your bitten nails for the next 5 months (and then sit on them again for the results) Sad It was very competitive then, pre fee hike, pre AAB fishing etc. and brutal for some of DD1's peers, so I am hoping it will be a slightly more flexible and humane process.

She has applied for Modern Languages (French and German) with European Studies (bit of history and politics to give a broad outlook!)

My son already has one offer and three interviews. He also has a test for Oxford coming up. All happened very quickly, first interview date was received within about 3 days of him submitting his application and the interview is next week. Not sure they can even have had time to read the Personal Statement he agonised over for hours!! Quite a few seem to have had offers already at his school.

mice That is what happened for DD1, first offer from Bath and interview with UCL within a day or so and UCL interview was more a charm offensive (which worked). If they get an early applicant they know is strong they can be fairly sure they are competing with Oxbridge. UCL has entirely lived up to it's promise as well.

Not sure the interview at Southampton will be a charm offensive mice as she is applying for a new 4 year MLang course which they are only offering to high flyers so think it will be fairly rigorous !! She is a bit frightened she will be seen as a token northerner !!

snowy I was a token northerner at Soton quite a long time ago, quite a lot of us too, though not quite as many as the token women (as in never quite cured John Inverdale Hmm and John Craig of being Neanderthals) but honestly it will be about merit......

I hope so - she is convinced her Yorkshire accent (which really isn't too broad at all) will make her sound "thick" ! At the open day we didn't hear any northern accents at all!! Well, all she can do is try her best and she has a really achievable offer from Bath which she is equally keen on so things looking promising !

It's great when the offers start coming in - the relief is huge!!

Ooh! Well done all those with offers! DS sent his off on Monday, but no news yet. He has his grades and is now taking an unexpected gap year as he changed his mind at the last minute about what he wants to do. Does anyone know whether that is likely to make his offers quicker or slower? Or no difference?

Report
Shootingatpigeons · 18/10/2013 07:43

mindgone Not sure about speed but it seems to make offers more likely. They seem to like applicants with them in the bag.

Shootingatpigeons, thanks, that's a relief! :)

Nothing yet for DS apart from the " we have your form" letters. He's sure they won't even look till after the 15/10 deadline so just got to wait.

Amazing to hear some have offers already - that's fantastic. DS1 has two interviews so far at Manchester and Lancaster. Not even an acknowledgement from two others (submitted UCAS two weeks ago).

Interview for Manchester here too, yeay! :)

mindgone it's lovely for that to get that first bit of promising news isn't it ? My DD1 is so relieved to have heard from her top 2 so soon (one interview, one offer) ! Writing the personal statement was terrible trying to get it in the limit but it's great that it obviously was fine.
