UCAS forms sent - just the waiting game now !

My super organised DD1 has had email today to say her forms/reference have been received and should be at her chosen Unis in the next 48 hrs !!!!! So the waiting begins - to those seasoned parents who have done this before can you remember how long they had to wait for their first responses ? At least 2 out of her 5 may call her for interview (MFL) so am guessing these might be fairly on the ball ?

Very organised. My son's still got a couple of open days to go and has to finalise his PS. One of his unis said they don't even start looking until the UCAS closing date. In Scotland most applicants already have their higher results and there are more unconditional offers so it's maybe faster for them to process them.
I think those who faff about until the closing date are looking a bit half hearted though. Once you have decided where you want to go I don't see any advantage in delaying things, and you can then get on with studying etc.

As an admissions tutor, I would much prefer applicants that were unsure to take all the time they need. This would save me a lot of time dealing with course transfer requests

Also lots of schools/colleges have different slots for dealing with applications. So they prioritise those who need to make the October deadline first, then assist the rest. So some people may not have received any support yet at all.

Last year DD put UCAS form in at end of November for MFL. Received all 5 conditional offers from RG unis by end December.

At DS school, they ask you to aim to submit your UCAS form by half term. That gives you time to go to some open days, tweak the PS, get teacher's feedback etc.
Obviously, doesn't apply to those who need forms early, or those looking at Art/Graphics courses where you need to build up a portfolio.

Both DS got theirs in just before half term, and were sitting on 3/4 offers by Christmas.

Update - she's sent it to her referee who then sends it on to UCAS. So I guess that's it we're on route.

hattymattie pleased they got the PS sorted ! It's so difficult fitting everything in such a tight word limit ! Good luck ! My DD had written letter from UCAS confirming they have sent off her application to her 5 choices - its all getting a bit too real now. You talk about it for so long then it creeps up on you !

Two girls at my DDs school already have offers - took less than a week!

My DD is on track for sending it off on Monday - school has it, reference attached etc - just one minor detail to confirm then its gone!

I hate this stress - it's third time around for me. DS had a couple of offers before Christmas but with DD it was a longer wait - she didn't get the offer she wanted until March, so there was much angsting....

Got my first offers in mid Oct I think.....I sent mine before September 15th because for some things there's an earlier deadline. Last reply in March. Good luck to your DD.....god I hated the whole UCAS thing soo much.

Gosh Beck I didn't expect to hear anything for a while. I'm just happy it's sent and I don't have to check for missing commas anymore. Do you know where they got offers from?

They are both science offers at the same RG uni - don't want to be too specific as I'm so close to outing myself in real life anyway and that would take me one step closer....

It's first time round for us- DS submitted his UCAS form last week. Most of his choices interview, so the first hurdle will be actually getting one, let alone an offer!
I can't believe some already have offers- that's incredible.

As a general rule science offers seem to come through earlier. But some institutions are quicker than others to respond and some seem notoriously slow. DD2 got a humanities offer from Manchester a couple of days after her UCAS was submitted, followed by a nice e-mail from the prof, but the other unis came in a good while later. Two in December, two in Feb/ March as far as I remember. Anyhow, it's DS2's turn now - he pressed the button this morning. I'm still surprised by his revelation last week that he's entered himself for SATs (about which I know absolutely nothing) and needs a lift to somewhere miles away to arrive by 7.30am tomorrow. It cost him well over £100 and it's not as though he's flushed with money. But I can't see a fully funded place coming his way - aren't they for less than 1% of applicants, something like that?

My daughter is part way through her UCAS application and asked me a question and I don't know - hoping someone here does:

She is currently studying a BTEC Level 3 course and sat 9 (out of 18) modules in year 12. Does she put those results on the form?

Kez100 I'm not sure about BTECs but with A-levels we had a choice of whether we wanted to 'declare' AS-levels or not.

I'm sur esomeone will come along with a definite answer but if not I'm sure her college will know tomorrow

Kez100 DD3 did a BTEC Level 3 course in IT and she did put the results of the first year on her UCAS form. The first year was called a subsidiary Diploma and she actual got a certificate for it. She could have left then but decided to go on and do the 2nd year which is now called an extended Diploma, It's a bit like AS's and AT's.
Is that the same for your DD?

Just for info, it seems the offers at my DDs school are now coming through in a flurry - not just for science but for humanities too! I can't believe how quickly they can turn them round eg form went in on Friday, offer on Tuesday morning! It wasn't like this with either DS or DD1..... That was tense waiting game.

Nothing come in for law yet - but didn't really expect it to - also DD has applied to the notoriously long wait uni's ie. Bristol, Durham and Warwick.

I seem to remember from the Warwick Open Day that for some courses they have a large number of qualified candidates chasing a much smaller number of places. They have to give all equal opportunity and so they wait until they have all the applications in.

Kingston is also very late. DD3 was getting frustrated at waiting for them last year. She had heard from all the others but was unable to make a decision about confirmed and insurance as Kingston hadn't replied.
