UCAS forms sent - just the waiting game now !

My super organised DD1 has had email today to say her forms/reference have been received and should be at her chosen Unis in the next 48 hrs !!!!! So the waiting begins - to those seasoned parents who have done this before can you remember how long they had to wait for their first responses ? At least 2 out of her 5 may call her for interview (MFL) so am guessing these might be fairly on the ball ?

Congratulations Snowy's DD! Must be a lovely feeling! :D

snowyowl70 · 22/10/2013 19:07

Oh my goodness - offer from Nottingham too today :) big smiles all round ! So 3 offers, one interview and 1 to hear from - cant believe it by mid October !

just to let you know - once the 'button' is clicked on UCAS doesn't mean that the application goes straight away. The applications only go through to the unis once the school/college let it go - they will check it, ensure that grades etc are correct and attached their references before they process it to go forward to the relevant universities.

Snowy

I'm very envious. My DD is also applying for modern languages (though a different combination to your DD) and I think will probably be applying to at least two of the same institutions (including the MA at Southampton.) The difference is she hasn't even come close to finishing her PS yet and with half term round the corner I would guess she won't get staff at school to look at her application until well into November.

Must try not to panic yet. Let's hope they keep back a few places for the tardy ones Grin

snowyowl70 · 23/10/2013 19:44

They have to give equal weight to all applications that are in before the jan deadline so I am sure they will have plenty of spaces !! Just my super organised DD1 wanted to get hers off early so she could focus on school work this term instead of stressing about the personal statement !! Does help that her tutor who wrote her reference also is the head of MFL and teaches her German and so was very keen to get the references for my DD1 and the only other girl applying for MFL done !!

I was chatting to a lady this morning who said her daughter only got an offer from KCL in March. I think we're in for a really long wait Sad. Well done to all who have already got offers.

mindgone · 24/10/2013 15:45

Offer from Leeds! Unconditional as he has his grades! So happy Grin DS says he's so glad he won't have to work in the supermarket all his life! (Very happy with the job for now though!)

Theas18 · 25/10/2013 22:39

Mindgone that's brilliant!

Ds has an offer for his "reserve choice " course. He's really pleased. It actually is something he'd love to do(ideally as a subspecialism within his main area) but many aspects of it are very appealing. It's also boosted his confidence of course that "someone wants me"

mindgone · 26/10/2013 00:31

Thanks Theas18! Congrats for your DS too, it's great when they get their first offer, and you know that someone likes what they read on their PS, after all that work on it. :)

Shootingatpigeons · 29/10/2013 10:14

Offer here. Not her first choice but high up. UCAS down though so we only have email from uni and no idea what offer actually is!

mindgone · 29/10/2013 13:54

That's great Shooting! Another interview here, only two left to hear from now.

snowyowl70 · 29/10/2013 17:31

That's great news Shootingatpigeons - shame UCAS is down :( its exciting for them !

Shootingatpigeons · 29/10/2013 20:02

It's back up now! It is sinking in that it isn't just the offer that matters it is getting the grades! Yesterday she was relieved that a uni would give her an offer, today she had a paddy that it was as high as they said it would be in the course description Hmm

Still waiting to see if we will be waving at snowy as my DD heads oop north whilst she heads darn sarth Grin (and saves on coats, I found it so barmy in Southampton I didn't wear a coat for three years (back in the days when northern teenagers wore coats.......)

snowyowl70 · 29/10/2013 23:42

There is life in the frozen North !! We will make sure we wave Shootingatpigeons as we pass you. Am I allowed to ask which fine Northern Unis they are applying to ?

snowy have to be careful as DD sensitive about being outed but God's own country Grin

mindgone · 30/10/2013 21:16

There might be more than one teenaged girl from Yorkshire applying for uni next year! Wink but I guess you can't take chances! [thigrin]

Actually mindgone I was surprised that most accents at the open days be they South or North were local. However that may just be that people don't bother to travel for an open day. We did find them useful but for my older DD the days they put on for those with offers were what made up her mind.

Shootingatpigeons · 31/10/2013 11:44

And, strangely enough, the interview, which she really enjoyed Confused

snowyowl70 · 31/10/2013 14:42

We commented on how many southern accents especially Essex accents we heard at S'ton open day - that was what made DD1 think she would be the token Northener but like you say Shootingatpigeons perhaps they didn't travel for the open day. My DD1 was only looking there based on its reputation but really was convinced she wanted to go to Bath until we visited and she really liked it. Whereas Warwick which friends had raved about just didn't do anything for her. She is now struggling between S'ton (if she gets an offer after interview) and Bath as her first choice so am hoping like you say that her visit days will help her make the decision !

yourlittlesecret · 31/10/2013 15:18

DS was very keen on Warwick and is waiting to hear. It was a long drive, 3 hours each way and seemingly impossible to do by train for us. I have that in mind for if he goes there.
That was the furthest he visited.
I was rather hoping Durham would be his preferred choice, visualising weekends in the area which is beautiful. He has applied there but it's not his favourite.
No offers yet but he wasn't as early applying as some.

Shootingatpigeons · 31/10/2013 15:31

All I can say is that I and my friends, southern and northern Wink had a great time at Southampton, it is quite a dull city if you come from some of the more lively northern cities but even without them having converted what was our sports hall into a 3000 capacity nightclub Grin we managed. Lovely area as well, lots of outings to pubs in the New Forest and the coast, to the beach in summer etc. Not I think entirely coincidentally quite a few of our DCs have gone there and have had a good time and enjoyed their courses and certainly my old department has developed out of all recognition, I stay in touchy because there is a prize in memory of a friend. Sadly it doesn't do the courses my DDS have wanted to study so no excuse for trips down memory lane like my friend's.

mindgone · 01/11/2013 14:21

Offer here from Newcastle! Grin it's conditional on him sending a copy of his A level certificate, but he doesn't have that yet. Does anyone know if a copy of the results slip he got in August should do? I thought that the unis would have access to his results themselves. Exciting times! He has offers now from his two favourites! Wine and Cake on me!

BeckAndCall · 01/11/2013 16:32

That's a great result mindgone enjoy the Wine - don't share it with your DS, it'll just get him into bad habits!

mindgone · 01/11/2013 19:44

Thanks Beckandcall! He prefers beer!! :)
