been to see dh. they have put him on the new strong drugs (dobutamine)) but th3ey are going to keep him on it till the op. they have given him sheets on the device (javik 2000) and iwill be trained on how to de3alwith it if things go wrong. havent actually spoken to the docs myself but will do at some point in the week. feel very overwhealmed right now, its like i'm watching someone elses lives unfold not mine and dh's.

Yet another rollercoaster ride of emotions you have had to go through.
Did they tell you why it isn't happening tonight?

hub2dee · 04/07/2005 14:10

Flossam · 04/07/2005 19:23

OH Misdee, so sorry you went through all those emotions earlier and the op didn't go ahead. Just wanted to reassure you about the dobutamine. The line going into the heart you are describing sounds like a CVP line. This actually sits in the main vein leading into the heart. People who have ops often have them as they are a good way at telling how hydrated the patient is and so medication that acts on the heart can be given if needed. It is just basically a long fancy venflon, that will need to be inserted by a doc on the ward with a bit of general aneasthetic. Chances are the dobutamine will work much better when the line is sited there - not so far to go! He will have one inserted when he does go to theatre anyway. Have they prepared you in any way for what he is likely to be like in ITU? Hope that helps if it is needed. Everything crossed for you all for a smooth operation on Wednesday.

misdee · 04/07/2005 19:40

his mum has been to ITU and had a look round. i havent yet, but want to tomorrow so i can prepare myself a bit. his mum says its not as bad as she imagined.
they haven't put a line in yet, they put one in last week for the dopemine, but removed once they stopped that one. poor bloke says he is a pin cushion. i have cancelled my driving lesson on thursday as i know i wont be able to concentrate this week.

dont think so hun, dont even know where the nearest waitrose is..... definately not for a good 15 miles!!! Oh well.... out of luck on that one!

Miaou · 04/07/2005 19:57

Hi Misdee - all the best for Wednesday for Peter. Does the fact that they are going straight for the LVAD mean that he is in a better state than he appeared to be yesterday? They aren't doing the other op first?

Sorry for being dim...
