Hi, got to have surgery at the end of the month, rectocele repair and posterior repair. Have done a search in the archives but found very little about this prob.......

surely I cant be the only person with this problem? Anyone out there? Just wanted to know a little about the recovery. I have an 8 month old dd to look after so im a bit concerened as my Dr said avoid lifting, well thats easier said than done!

OP posts:
dudrop2362 · 09/11/2010 10:50

To answer Susie1972 i asked to see consultant before surgery(i was concerned i would end up too tight) i should have had both rectocele and cystocele repair, but when i saw him after op he said he had only done rectocele and that front wall was weak and would need repairing later.at 7 weeks post op i am worried it hasn't worked (have bulge though not as bad) before BM and have to hold up to empty and also feels like there is a lump in groin (i didn't have before)would be grateful to know if anyone else had same problem. don't see consultant till 1st Dec

Suzie1wong · 09/11/2010 11:03

Am 2 weeks post op today for rectocele and feel great today, still tender when having bm and still using lactulose, ducolax to make them softer but other than that just tired.

I haven't felt any stitches come out and can feel one in opening of vagina,is that normal?

Haven't drove yet but am doing light duties in the house.

dudrop2362 · 09/11/2010 15:46

the only stitch i've seen was last week, i had a few hot baths to disolve it because it seemed loose, it was just at opening, i can feel another one just inside, physio told us last week to rub scars with olive oil or any oil but baby oil.

Suzie1wong · 09/11/2010 16:58

Thanks dudrop

I'm not the concerned about it 2bh

Did you say you were 7 weeks post op?

I was just wondering if you still had pain with bms?mine has inproved loads, just still hurts a bit when I relax my muscles to do a bm,did you have anything similar?

dudrop2362 · 09/11/2010 17:45

hi suzie yes i am 7 weeks,i take movicol twice day, lactolose gave me bad pains, i find it hard to relax before bm and sometimes it hurts but not as bad, i also use glyserine suppositrys sometimes if can't finish so it doesn't hurt as much

Suzie1wong · 09/11/2010 17:48

Ah ye I'm same really, find it hard to fully relax if you know what u mean lol

I'm on ducolax and lactulose once each at night, going to ask for movacol next time I go to docs tho,I'm only 2 weeks post op and feeling really well, just trying not to do to much still

dudrop2362 · 09/11/2010 18:30

good to hear you're feeling well.i would give movicol a try, i am still being really careful too but as i said i have more energy now so you have to think twice before doing anything

Suzie1wong · 09/11/2010 19:22

I just keep hoping for the day when everything is back to normal should I say!!if it ever will be!!

Must say in first week I regretted hang it done, hopefully things will get better.

Simbacatlives · 09/11/2010 22:45

Re Bms. I stopped on the lactulose as I think it was giving me wind. Mine are more or less usual but the consultant did stress that you must carry on with using help for as long as you feel that you need it and not give up too soon.

What helps me (bit gross sorry). I couldn't relax. I bought these jumbo sanitary towels from sainsburys 10 for 14p! I fold one in half and put it over stitches and sort of clench it there or hold in place and then go. It gives me security but also the faffing is a good distraction!

Very ironic though - most weeks when I shop in sainsburys a voucher prints for money off or free item. Last week free chocolates. The boy handed me this weeks coupon- free sanitary towels!!!!

Suzie1wong · 10/11/2010 13:48

Lol least your getting the right offers lol

Have just had a normal bm which am pleased about but I have noticed I still have a small bulge I even felt like I had the urge to push on my perineum!hope it hasn't cone back aready I'm only 16 days post op!!!

dudrop2362 · 10/11/2010 15:35

thats the way i have been feeling for last few weeks and i have been pressing on perineum

Suzie1wong · 10/11/2010 15:50

Aw dudrop!!maybe were expecting to much!!it's defiantly loads better but a bit gutted

dudrop2362 · 10/11/2010 16:20

Yes it's better than it was before op and i did expect too much maybe, but i'm living in hope till i see consutant (i'm hoping it's just swelling)which is maybe could be what is going on with you suzie (fingers crossed)

Suzie1wong · 10/11/2010 17:12

Ye hope so!!when do you see consultant?I don't see mine till febuary

dudrop2362 · 10/11/2010 20:37

1st dec! you seem to be waiting a long time to see consultant too, i had hematoma?? they think at 10 days when the doc examined it hurt like hell!! then they gave me 2 lots of antibotics which gave me the runs for 3 days, they were in case of infection, (but didn't have bad smell like some) think that might not have helped OR too much time on my hand to worry (smile)but i must say i am better than i was before op

Suzie1wong · 10/11/2010 21:09

What's a hematoma?

Ye they just said see you in 3 months!!I thought it was a long time to but must be common place!!

I'm at docs 2moro because I keep getting pains in my legs and have an awful pain in my left side feels like just above my hips, hurts like hell!!but have suffered with colitis in past so hope that hasn't flared up due to unusual bm!!

dudrop2362 · 10/11/2010 21:33

hematoma is blood clot on stitch, it burst and i bled quite heavy with clots,

why was bm unusual?

dudrop2362 · 10/11/2010 21:38

was it the first time you had felt the "bulge"

Suzie1wong · 10/11/2010 22:06

Sorry I meant because of the change in bms caused by tablets making me constipated then having the runs, could be making my colitis flare up

Today was first time I felt like I might have to help myself go,but I never,i stopped myself, bulge is not any ware net as big as it was but there is a slight one,I haven't dared to look or feel properly yet

dudrop2362 · 11/11/2010 17:31

hope all went well at doc's suzie and it isn't colitis, and the results of your op aren't as you feared.

Suzie1wong · 11/11/2010 17:50

Hi dudrop

Been to docs they think it's probably a mild flare up due to laxatives but should settle

Got a water infection though so am taking antibiotics for that

Asked about pain in legs they reckon it's not dvt but probably more muscular and if it gets worse to go back

How are you?

dudrop2362 · 11/11/2010 18:04

sorry to hear about infection!didn't realize you were worried about dvt but glad that ok. physio said last week that while we are having op they are not always too gentle so that could be where your pains are coming from.i couldn't summon any energy up today but made myself go for a walk, the rest is just same ta for asking, don't see any point of going to gp !there is nothing they can do if it hasn't worked.

Suzie1wong · 11/11/2010 18:12

Ye totally agree I thought it was a waste of time going to gp thy don't have a clue really what your talking about do they?
Know what you mean I'm shatterd, but walked round sainsburys for 10 minutes and collecting kidz from school on my own tomorrow which is just 10 mins away!!big achievement Lol

Ye I was having pains in my legs but shesaid there nothing hard or swollen and that there not burning so thinks there ok

dudrop2362 · 11/11/2010 20:25

you're doing really well to say you are only a few weeks post op. best of luck with kids tomorrow, and try not to worry about dvt i think doc would know what they were talking about with that.

Suzie1wong · 11/11/2010 21:02

Thanks dudrop I'm sure I will be fine

I'm currently in bed after coming over hot and sick!!got a headache and some pains in tummy, hope it's not antibiotics!!!

thanks for the kind words
