That is really good news. May things go from strength to strength. You have given me so much hope. I now await my date with several degrees less dread. Thank you. Smile

libbywills · 21/10/2010 17:12

Had my pre-Op assessment, and the Nurse was shocked that I was on the day patient list, but she checked with the consultant who's secretary says he is optimistic about me comin home same day.

Many thanks to PurpleHaze64 for your kind message and advice.
Op week today, fingers crossed all goes well

dollbowl · 22/10/2010 07:11

Hi im 3 weeks post op today, have been given antibiotics for infection, went to doctors with pain on one side and bit of bleeding with discharge (that smells like old blood)and the doctor said where the stitches threads were left too long they have cut into the skin (as they are very sharp)and its all inflamed and infected,so had to lay still while she cut the threads shorter, she said the knot is also very thick and has rubbed but am so swollen she couldnt get her scissors under the knot to cut it, got to wait for the antibiotics to bring the swelling down, came out of the doctors and burst into tears, and the short walk there and back killed me.Tried going to asda last night with hubby, only walked for about 15 mins and was in so much pain, its always on the left hand side like a pulling feeling almost like someone is pulling the stitches apart, has anyone else had this and when does it go?Also when does the extreme tiredness go i never normally feel tired in the daytime. xxx

Simbacat · 22/10/2010 11:15

Libbywillis

I stayed in 2 nights- my op was late pm on the 1st day. If it had been early would have been fine to come home on the same day I think. You will need lots of help at home. I was eating a drinking 3 hours the op.

Dollbowl- I am sure it is the infection making you tired. On tuesday i was asleep all day- I had been up and about normally. Discharge started to smell. Went to docs- infected stitch. Been taking antibiotics since then and I feel great again. Let the antibiotics kick in- did you see the consultant or a gp?

dollbowl · 22/10/2010 11:54

hi simbacat, i saw the gp ive got an appointment to c the consultant on monday to c how everything is going,i feel really lightheaded too like the room is spinning, dont know if thats from the antibiotics or cos im tired. How many weeks post op are u ?Also have u had like a pulling feeling on one side if u stand for too long? xxxx

Simbacat · 22/10/2010 14:23

Hi dollbowl

Mine is about 11 days after now. The smell and discharge from the infected stitch went quite quickly. I saw the consultant - the antibiotic is called co-amoxiclav- she was very insistent that it be that one.

My numbness is almost gone i think- I had no pain except wind. Discomfort builds up when I need the loo- that's still a bit difficult but getting better..

My stitches are stating to tighten now. I have to confess that I haven't looked at it yet. My bottom was really bruised and it is green now. I know that I will have to look at some point soon.

My main problem is bloating- my clothes dont fit me.

On tuesady I had the infection I felt awful cold but had a temp, tired and a bit dizzy. The anti biotic kicked in very quickly. I feel fine now and no smell.

Hope the antibiotic works for you soon

dollbowl · 25/10/2010 16:59

Hi had a checkup with the consultant today, after waiting nearly 3 hours after my appointment time and sitting on a really hard chair, not good,3 weeks and 3 days post op,and was told 3 weeks post op is too early to be seen, but i said i got the appointment in the post(NHS for ya)but he said he would have a look anyway, he examined me (using his fingers not a speculum, thank god)and he rubbed his fingers over the stitches inside where i had the posterior repair (nearly knocked him out was soooo painful)and he said even though its early days it is healing nicely,he also said it feels very tight and hard along the scar but that this should ease as the stitches dissolve and he doesnt want to c me for 3 months now.The antibiotics have cleared the infection up and although im in a bit of pain now it is getting easier just wish the tiredness would go.Just thought i would update as this thread has been a god send to me.Also im still getting a slight pulling feeling if im standing for too long does anyone else get this and does anyone else who has had the tot sling get pain when they lay on their tummy? The last thing i do before i go to bed is go for a wee but when i lay down on my tummy it hurts like when u have a full bladder xxx

dollbowl · 02/11/2010 14:37

how is everyone getting on no body has wrote on here for a while, where have u all gone?

susie1972 · 03/11/2010 15:29

Do you see a consultant at pre-op ? I have mine on the 16th of this month and still dont know if they are doing a bladder repair along with the sacrohystroplexy and rectocele ...not to keen on just waking up after the op on the 30th and finding out then!! I am having my op done at the womens center at the john radcliffe in oxford ..im under mr Jackson..hope you all are recovering well, this thread has awnswered so much for me thankyou xx

libbywills · 03/11/2010 15:35

Hiya dollbowl

I am 6 days post op, had posterior repair but extra stitch at the opening. Was in and out on the same day, but in more pain now than last week!!!
Called doctor out this morning as I've been having hot flushes (hope its not the start of you know what, and is reaction to anasthetic or infection) and my external stitch is sooooo painful. Been given anti biotics in case of infection and stronger pain killers.

How are you feeling? I read on earlier posts that you had an infection, hope you are on the mend xx

libbywills · 03/11/2010 15:43

hi susie1972
I only saw a nurse at me pre-op bt she knew all the details of the operation. She was very knowledgeable about the procedure, as I was advised on this thread....ask lots of questions

Good luck xx

susie1972 · 03/11/2010 16:09

Thanks for reply libbywills I hate building myself up for something that is not going to happen. Am amazed at the difference in hospital stay with everyone. Have been told overnight..but am now not so sure will be..I will go armed with questions on the 16th!! thanks x

dollbowl · 04/11/2010 06:24

Hiya libbywills
Im 5 weeks post op tomorrow.
I had stitch by the opening too and it was really painful the threads on it were so long and sharp they had cut in and thats where i got the infection so doctors gave me antibiotics (ended up having 3 lots) and the doctor trimmed the thread on that stitch which made it feel better.Make sure u keep up with the strong painkillers as i tried to stop them too soon and it doesnt help (u need them).I also had the hot flushes too, i got up in the night on about the 3rd day and had one when i went to the toilet i got so scared i was gonna pass out i layed down on the floor till it passed, went to docs and it was an infection.Hope u feel better soon anything else u need to know just ask i check on here every day as this has been a godsend to me, just to know u are not alone in what your going through makes it just a bit easier. xx

larry5 · 04/11/2010 18:49

Hi I am also 9 days post-op and on the whole feeling quite good. I am a little sore at times but I think I have been very lucky in that I have not had nearly as much pain as I thought I would have.

I was just wondering how long others have continued to bleed for. There isn't much but I am still bleeding dark blood. Is this normal?

libbywills · 05/11/2010 09:45

Thanks dollbowl glad its not just me "flushing" doctor gave me co-amoxiclav, the same as simbacat so hoping they will do the trick. Its the stitch at the opening that is painful, dont feel internal ones much!!
I agree this forum is fab, it answers lots of questions and its great to speak to people in similar situation.

Do have a few queries if anyone can answer.
firstly, I have not had a period since September, thinking that Oct one didnt happen as I was stressed about my op! (def not pregnant) not sure if and when I will get a visit!!!

Secondly I know its early days and a long way off as i'm only 1 week post op, but I am wondering about having sex..... will it be painful????...... how many weeks post op etc.
Def out of the question for a few weeks yet, but I would like to give my poor husband and idea Wink xx

suzie1wong I have had toilet trouble with BM's too, doctor gave lactolose prescription
which is too sweet for me, so I have been taking Senokot tablets (herbal) which have helped a lot. I was so apprehensive about going to the toilet at first I could not relax, but now I have been a few times its not so bad, but will def be keeping up the senakot for sure!! If you have a vaginal smell you may have an infection, I've read that on earlier posts on here, so perhaps a call from the doctor may be the best xx

larry5 I am 7 days post op, not bleeding much, mine is funny colour at times, I did ask my Doctor to take a look when I called him out but he declined!!! I think having to look at my vagazzle was enough for the poor bloke lol, if you are not happy then why dont you ask your Doctor for a telephone consultation? it may ease your worries xx

So glad I found this site Grin

larry5 · 05/11/2010 10:26

Hi libbywills. When I saw the doctor to sign the consent form I was asked if I was still sexually active (I might be 58 but I am not completely past it!) and was told that we should not resume having sex until 6 weeks at the earliest. The way I feel at the moment it might be six months (not really) but anyway he suggested taking it slowly and gently.

Hope that helps you.

Suzie1wong · 05/11/2010 11:49

Thanks Libby, finding it easier to go but it's like u can't fully relax like there is something pulling!I'm assuming stitches?!?and that's where the pain is in my bum,ye defo going to see if the smell worsens over weekend then ring doc,it's not to bad ye,it's this bloody pressure that's annoying me :( x

Simbacatlives · 05/11/2010 18:32

Hi again.

I am now 3 and a half weeks since my op. After a week had a slight infection from static. The smell was awful. To answer other questions there is a slight smell all the time but this was very different.

All fine again- bleeding like a period- then after 12 days rushes of dark red blood .Filling towels every hour. Went on for 4 days. Doctors divided as to wether a hematoma or just stitches coming away. It dripped like a tap!

Then 4 days of heavy period type bleeding. Now light period. It is red blood caused by stitches apparently. At some point I am assuming I had my period (usually quite light as well)

I can feel a stitch at the entrance- external ones on my buttocks gone. Apparetly stitches inside haven't started to really come away yet and when they do there may be more bleeding.

Sex told 6 weeks but as this rate I will still be bleeding!

I am still really bloated. Toilet pretty normal.

Simbacatlives · 05/11/2010 18:32

Not static- infected stitch

dollbowl · 07/11/2010 21:31

hi simbacat

im 5 weeks post op and have started bleeding too not sure if its my period but its really heavy and thick with clots, really dark red but the pain ive had with it is like someone is pulling the stitches apart it really hurts have u got this too? im really bloated too but im still taking senakot and lactalose r u (not sure if thats what is causing it) x

dudrop2362 · 08/11/2010 15:36

Hi i'm 7 weeeks post op for rectocele repair. found this site a bit late but it has been such a relief to find other people with the same problems i have had...so thanks for sharing. i had heavy bleeding after about 10 days, bright red with clots, they think it was hematoma or stich infection, had two lots of antibiotic's and was ok in couple of days. energy came back at about 5 weeks. op was nowhere as bad as i expected hardly any pain, have still got a stitch i can feel just inside and lost one from outside few days ago, i'm still bloated too.

Simbacatlives · 08/11/2010 18:08

4 weeks tomorrow. I can still feel a stitch at the bottom. Bleeding a bit variable- from very light spotting (and I think it's almost over) then a bit of a rush. Overall much lighter though.

Dollbowl- I was told to go back if I had clots. I had some very tiny ones but nothing heavy. When I had the possible hematoma the blood was dark and heavy. Now it's bright red and spotting.

I have had no pain at all- got a very slight twinge today as I have been lugging a suitcase and laptop around London (not lifting them!). I think I can feel a slight pulling pain at times which may well be stitches coming away- I haven't seen any at all.

My bloating is much better-dropped over half a stone from my heaviest-probably about the same as pre op now but with a very definite bulgy tummy which I didn't have. Got suck in tights but I still can't fit in my trousers.

jackie62 · 08/11/2010 22:36

Hi, just joined! Very glad I've found this site as it has already answered loads of questions and made me realise that I am not the only one suffering in this way!
Susie1972 I will also be having an op in the JR Oxford and am very interested in how it all goes for you. Good luck on the 16th November with your consultation.
