MissingMySleep · 12/11/2010 13:24

I wonder if anyone can give me some information. I have read most of this thread but apologise if I have missed the relevant bit.

Following two children (big babies, big heads, failed ventouse, forceps, epesiotomy, 3rd degree tears, stitches that fell out the next day with the first, and then fast furious deliery of 10lb baby for the second)
I went to gp and then consultant for stress incontinence and (the bit that is really getting me down) not feeling much during sex. The gnae I saw has referred me for a tape op for the bladder, which may resolve the stress incontinence, advised that I have a 1+ rectocele which may cause problems when I am older (I am 42) and very poor pelvic tone.

I have looked up rectocele and read the problems that the ladies on this message board have had, and wonder if anyone can advise what the 1+ means? Should I be glad its not very bad, or are there things I can do now to stop it getting worse...? And is the lack of sensation due to the rectocele or just two big babies giving me an irreversible massive fanjo. My husband is too kind to mention it, but I know its pretty rubbish for him too.

Thanks for any guidance

Suzie1wong · 12/11/2010 13:42

Ye me to dudrop I haven't stopped eating!!boredom mostly,I'm going back to skimming world next Thursday.

@missing my sleep I had a relatively small prolapse but was a nightmare, had to help myself go to toilette for a bm,sex was a waste of time because I was so loose!!the 1+ means a grade they measure them by grades, mine went from 1 to 3 in a year!I can't say I know what your going threw because I font I only had a rectocele but am glad I had it done

Simbacatlives · 12/11/2010 15:00

Missingmysleep

I was told mine was a 1 then 12 months later another consultant said a 4 and when they operated it was actually worse than expected.

Suzie1wong · 12/11/2010 15:02

So have you had your op then?

dudrop2362 · 13/11/2010 09:33

to missingmysleep they say pelvic floor exercises help a lot, and as an older lady i would have given anything a try if i had known the risk, i was torn with all my sons (3)last one 9lb 6oz, consultant was horified so that must have caused it, i was given very little information, and i didn't know the questions to ask, i looked on a few other sites beforehand and they frightend me to death so stopped looking till i was worried op hadn't worked and luckily found this site, but i do think it's good to rembember we are all individuals and it's not the same for everyone, but i have found this site such a help.
suzie i hope the antibotics have worked and you are feeling better?

Ivy268 · 13/11/2010 11:32

Hi, all. I'm new to this site, but came here because I had a rectocoele repair last Thursday.

It was day surgery and I only spent one day in bed at home. Tbh, the recovery has been easy so far. Although not at work, nor doing any cleaning or lifting, I'm basically back to normal, although I get tired much earlier in the evening. I've driven too, with no problems, and am having to pace myself in order not to overdo things as I feel fine.

Just a question though about BMs. I'm trying not to assist, and using Senakot and Fybogel to keep things moving. But everything seems to be in a different place now, and I don't have any sensation in my bowel, except for a sharp pain on the inside of my anus when I want to go or have wind. Am wondering if this is maybe a haemorroid?

How long have others found it takes to get some musculature back in the bowel. I don't want to bear down for BMs, and the Senakot is working fine, but I clearly can't take that forever.

Any ideas on recovery time woould be great. TIA

dollbowl · 13/11/2010 15:36

Hi 6 weeks post op now never thought i would get to this stage, honestly girls have faith and patience i felt like i was dying and had made a mistake but am finally feeling better, no more pulling or pain and thought i would never let anyone near my bits again but guesse what, after my husband beeing away all week for work we actually did it, it wasnt planned so i wasnt worrying bout it, we missed each other so much it was just natural, and i can honestly say it didnt hurt (this was my main worry) it felt different but in a good way and my husband said it felt tighter,Blush sorry its a bit personal but i know i wanted to know all this so if it helps you all its worth it,"ivy268" i had no urge to do bm either just sharp pain too but its still early days for u just keep up with the senakot and fybrogel im still taking mine, it does get much better xx

Suzie1wong · 13/11/2010 18:18

Ae dollbowl that's fab, sounds like things are coming together great for you :)

Dudrop thanks feeling pretty much the same really, going to doctors again Monday if I don't feel an improvement over weekend

dudrop2362 · 14/11/2010 10:39

suzie hope you're feeling better and it was the antibiotics making you feel so bad. dollbowl great news that it has worked out so well for you, gives us all hope.

belucky · 16/11/2010 13:40

Simbacatlives... It must have been dreadful when they discovered that it was worse than they expected. I have a horror that this is what is going to happen to me, so I was wondering if there was anything that you can tell me to prepare me for what may be to come!!

jackie62 · 16/11/2010 14:39

message to Susie 1972. Have you had the appointment? I hope it went well for you.

Simbacatlives · 16/11/2010 19:40

Belucky- all I know is that I have mesh and a lot more stitches than intended.

Mine is 5 weeks post op today. Bleeding finally stopped 2 days ago. The only stitch that I could feel came out some time on Saturday. It was quite achy for the few days before- lots of little twinges which I assume was related tom the stitches coming away.

I have a slight heavy feeling still- bit worried it may not be a complete success. Consultant next week so here's hoping.

belucky · 17/11/2010 12:21

Simbacatlives, Thank you for sharing this experience. I have my date now... 29th November!! I am filled with horror, but all of the input here has been loads of help. Did you have any idea before the op that you would have the mesh, of was this just as a result of it being so much more than they originally anticipated? I assume that you are still not lifting anything at all... how are you getting on with your walking?

Simbacatlives · 17/11/2010 13:08

It was mentioned that in severe prolapses a mesh might be used but I wasnt expecting one. I had op 7 days after seeing new consultant ( saw one last year who said mild) so it was a bit of a rush.

It is impossible not to lift things. Now my stitches have gone I am pretty much back to normal. I only had 3 days off work and then 1 week working from home as I couldnt drive. I haven't done washing yet but everything else- have been getting shopping delivered.

Starting back at gym this week I think- just swimming to start.

Suzie1wong · 17/11/2010 15:52

I'm 3 weeks post op and I have to say it is impossible not to lift I have 3 kidz youngest is 2!!I started lifting him on week 2 I know I shouldn't have but had no choice!!I've been doing all normal house work, washing, cleaning, hoovering,I also would like to start exercising again but don't know ware to start,I can still feel a stitch right next to perineum, but it's not a problem, other than feeling tired I'm not feeling to bad, still taking stool softness to help with bms and had water infection, haven't tried sex and to be honest don't want to,don't think I could bare that yet.

belucky · 17/11/2010 18:12

Simbacatlives, you are really doing well. I have been told that I am not even walk the dogs until I am 6 weeks post op! You truly rock11

Ivy268 · 17/11/2010 20:12

Back again after a few more days, during which I've been sooo tired. Maybe it's all catching up with me at last. Hoping things will get better again soon. No pain from the surgery site, but am bleeding a lot again. This could be a late period though. Am not sure, as my cycle is very irregular at the moment.

Had a little feel around down there. Am full of stitches internally, and there doesn't seem to be nearly as much space as before!!

Simbacatlives · 17/11/2010 23:11

Ivy- that seems to be common. All goes really well for 2 weeks then bleeding seems to become heavier etc.

2-3 weeks was the worst for me- heavy bleeding and very tired. Don't worry it will be better soon.

Ivy268 · 18/11/2010 09:41

Thanks, Simbacatlives. I was talking to a mate today who said that she felt fine the week after an anaesthetic too, but then had a week of feeling very weak and pathetic. So maybe it is quite common.

Managed an hour's dog-walking this morning, and am not in a state of collapse yet. I need to be fit for next week, when I have a couple of job interviews.

belucky · 19/11/2010 10:45

You guys are so inspirational! As my date gets closer I keep reading all your input, but the thought keeps coming into my mind that have these amazing recovery times got anything to do with age. Are you generally young things, or is there my any chance an older soul out there struggling a touch more on the recovery times?

dudrop2362 · 19/11/2010 11:05

Hi belucky as a slightly "older soul" i am 8 week now post rectocele op, i had very little pain at the begining spent 3 nights in hospital, had a problem with posible hematoma or infection 10th day so had antibiotics and have been fine since got my energy back at about 5 weeks, i was terrified before i had it done and know now there was no need, only worry i have now is if it hasn't worked won't know for a couple of weeks but i certanly feel better than before op
