i like mine

winestein · 21/11/2008 19:34

Brrrilliant!

Well I'm glad you got the wrong email address or you might have thought I was ignoring you! The part that was wrong was the-boozer. The hyphen is subtle, yet extremely important

I have discovered a new heavyweight of all tampons btw... Lilets Super Plus Extra. Wow. They are extremely absorbent and almost certainly will never drop out... (or even come out on lighter days )

Right, off to goggle at your link on silicone buckets....

AuntyVi · 21/11/2008 20:27

Um.... I bought a mooncup recently cos I liked the idea, and tried it out for the first time. Got on OK at first - until it was time to remove it. But for some reason taking it out was REALLY painful! I've never heard of that before, anybody got any ideas what might be the reason? I have to admit I was put off trying it again, it was just soo uncomfortable trying to get it out, I used lots of bad words... but I don't want to give up on it either esp. after you all seem to be so happy with yours. Can anyone advise?

maluta2 · 21/11/2008 21:42

I REALLY WANTED TO LIKE THE MC. However with my very heavy periods I found I had to change it every half an hour and it leaked and when I took it out it was so full of blood that it spilt over my hands, clothes, toilet rim. What a mess! I'm envious of those of you who love it and don't have any problems using it. After my experiences I don't think I will use it again.
For those with very heavy periods I would not recommend it - far more hassle, worries, mess, leakage than with pads (don't wear tampons). For women with light to medium periods it could be great.

noonki · 21/11/2008 22:10

maluta2 - maybe consider using it on your less heavy days? (if you have any)

i absolutely adore mine.

It took about 3 months to be this loved up.

I had real issues with tampaxs falling out after having kids (so much for my pelvic floor exercises)

and I HATED that gritty dry tampax pull

I am amazed at how I didnt find it really nasty as I am squeemish normally.

I urge everyone to go buy one, reakon I am close to breaking even after only a few months!

policywonk · 22/11/2008 09:14

Super Plus Extra... they are old news man. I've been using them for ages.

Tronkmanton · 22/11/2008 12:13

Can you go swimming with a mooncup in? Even on heavy days?

winestein · 22/11/2008 14:15

I'm just soooo behind the times...

It would think it would depend Tronkmanton.. would you normally leak within the length of time you would normally go swimming on heavy days? If not, should be fine. If so, just make sure there are no sharks in the pool

hauntedcitylover · 22/11/2008 18:53

I love my mooncup and I am sure it has cut the length of my periods and made them less heavy. eg period came tuesday and finished by friday.

On heavy days (and mine are heavy) I also wear pad and change every two to three hours but so much better than tampons.

But from not being able to leave the house and enormous clots my periods are manageable now.

winestein · 22/11/2008 23:13

Some days I can't get down the stairs without my cup runnething over... hence me giving it up as a bad job... but will certainly be investing in one of the larger sized ones to see if it can cope (cheers for the link PW and look forward to the email)

girlandboy · 22/11/2008 23:30

AuntyVi - sounds like you tried to remove it without breaking the suction!

Either squeeze the bottom of the mooncup a little to break the suction, or put a finger up the side of it. Either works for me. If you try to just pull it out, it feels like you're pulling your insides out as well. Not good.

klinsmann · 23/11/2008 20:04

If you are having any problems with the Mooncup, there is a good FAQ section on this website. It's a bit lengthy but may have the info that you need.

beansontoast · 23/11/2008 20:29

'love' is a bit strong...but i def 'have a thing' about my mooncup

it is a minimalist buzz in my otherwise cluttered chaotic existence.

i too kept forgetting i was on my period because there were no tell tale signs.

i dont know how anyone with long nails would get on?

meanmutha · 30/11/2008 23:22

Yep I have longish nails, but its practice and after over a year I'm a pro.
I have used mine while clubbing and at a festival and I am still alive! Infact, yes, I love mine!!

pushchair · 01/12/2008 20:24

TMI!
Well I just used my mooncup for the first time.......and it was a night mare!
I was working when things kicked off so I didnt use it straight away. That night I trimmed the end and popped it in. Blimey it seemed big. I could feel it a bit but since I was going to bed I did not fiddle about. Then I got a really sore back and kept waking up. Could just have been period type pain but wasn't fun. In the morning there was some leakage so nipped into the lo and extracted. Even with some mopping beforehand the gore was impressive and I ended up with a hand dripping with blood.
I havent used it since. I am scared.
Any advice?

MatNanPlus · 01/12/2008 20:35

Practice Pushchair.

Ypu may have squeezed a little enthusiastically on removal.

I have long clotty heavy ones and due to cysts and endo i use mine for 2-3 weeks a month for flow or gunk and it does take practice.

pushchair · 01/12/2008 20:50

Ok. I will give another go tomorrow.

yogabird · 01/12/2008 20:56

fab, fab, fab love mine

MatNanPlus · 01/12/2008 21:01

I remove and inspect empty mine whenever i visit the loo

ulcombebird · 24/01/2013 22:17

Bought mine after reading this thread. Used first time today, no trouble getting in or out. So far, so good. Feel I want to share my success with everyone, but not sure everyone will be keen to hear!

ItsAboutTime · 23/07/2013 21:36

The cheapest place I could find for a genuine mooncup was femininewear.co.uk mine was £18... :) They're on sale at the mo... :)
