Dh's MBE

We managed to make it all work, and dh was well enough to have it presented yesterday.

Friend organised the medal and citation to be sent from High Wycombe, and dh was awake enough, so at 7 o'clock we started to get everyone together and by 8.15 it was 'done'

Quite wonderful and the right thing to do. Dh deserved to get it, and it was far more meaningful than my picking it up on his behalf 'after'

The citation summed him up to a tee, it talked about his inspirational leadership, dedication and profesionalism. And said how brave he was.

There wasn't a dry eye in the house.

I spent the night with him and can give the nurses no better praise than to say that they are as wonderful as can be. It was almost like being surrounded my MN.

The MN rug was with me, BTW.

Going now to have a shower

Fantastic glad you managed to get the ceremony sort out

Blandmum · 21/06/2008 12:42

No hat. It is possibly the only MBE to be presented to a room full of people waering tee shirts by a group on men in No 1 uniform!

oh how wonderful Congratulations - a well-deserved honour I'm sure

so what exactly is the MN rug? (hopes desperately its different from the MN blanket but thinks it most probably is the same thing .. oh well one persons blanket is another persons' rug)

howmuchchoccanIeatb4iexplode · 21/06/2008 12:50

You must all be so proud of him xx

Littlefish · 21/06/2008 12:54

Re. the MN rug

Some time ago, lots of us knitters contributed squares which Tamum and the intrepid sewers joined together to make a blanket/rug for the MB family. It was to show her that we were all thinking about her and a way of wrapping her in our thoughts and love.

Here's the thread from when she received it

Lizzer · 21/06/2008 13:01

Amazing news, so pleased for you all

TimeForMe · 21/06/2008 13:07

HOw wonderful MB, that is a lovely post. And I think the MN hug rug should be sold nationally. I want one!

Flobberghasted · 21/06/2008 13:07

i bet it was a very moving occasion to all concerned.

Twiglett · 21/06/2008 13:09

I know that Littlefish [Smile] .. Jimjams and me were the 'learned to knit' culprits

Twiglett · 21/06/2008 13:10

I have to say that Marina's "our way of saying how much we think about you all, and love you on here" still holds true

Littlefish · 21/06/2008 13:12

Of course Twigg - I forgot! I was so impressed with you and Jimjams - what a labour of love. Have you knitted since, or were you scarred for life by the effort?

Flobberghasted · 21/06/2008 13:13

she's just relievd i didnt knit

suedonim · 21/06/2008 13:25

I'm so pleased Mr MB's presentation went ahead - lol @ teeshirts and No1 uniforms! I hope you and Mr MB, MBE, share a peaceful weekend together.

geekgirl · 21/06/2008 13:29

I'm glad you managed to have a fitting ceremony with mr mb

not surprised there wasn't a dry eye - I got a lump in my throat just reading about it.

ladytophamhatt · 21/06/2008 13:36

Oh yes I knew about the blanket.

I still wish I'd knitted a square....it would have been aholey one but hey ho

We all think of you MB, but of course you know that already

How is DH this morning? Is he comfortable?

getbackinyouryurtjimjams · 21/06/2008 13:38

Twig managed a lot more squares than me!

RosaLuxembunting · 21/06/2008 13:51

So pleased that Mr MBE has got his award. There should be one for you too, MB, if courage and dedication are criteria - you have so much of both.

anorak · 21/06/2008 13:55

What an inspiring story this all makes. You've managed to find a bright light in a very dark place.

Absolutely blimmin' marvellous

MamaFeckinMia · 21/06/2008 14:04

Hurray!

Congratulations, Mr MB, MBE.

shrinkingsagpuss · 21/06/2008 14:31

So pleased Mr MB got his MBE - I know I may be being daft, but what did he get it for?

Hope the Hospice can make him more comfortable, so you can relax a little and enjoy these precious times together.

ajandjjmum · 21/06/2008 14:32

That's wonderful!

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/06/2008 15:16
