from front to back - squewering sweet potatoes onto a fiercesome bbq implement.

Didn't really hurt or bleed. It isn't swollen or disgusting; have bandaged it. I think dh was wobblier than me about it all.

Blimey.

Off to A&E, right?

Kindersurprise · 08/06/2008 13:01

owowow

That sounds really nasty.

BoyzntheShire · 08/06/2008 13:02

dont you need a jab or something for that?

ggglimpopo · 08/06/2008 13:02

No - cannot fac the three hour wait for nothing - tis not swollen or looking dodgy and can move everything.

Will check tetanus status tomorrow with blood test.

All a bit surreal.

Dh went funny colour.

Oh God - sounds horrific GGG. It does sound as if you should get it seen to be a doc though.

ScienceTeacher · 08/06/2008 13:04

You must get medical help.

You may not be feeling much because your body will have switched into protection mode.

You will need antibiotics, and you should have your hand checked by a specialist. There are loads of complicated structures in your hand, and you really don't want any of them to fail.

Take a book, and sit in A&E.

ggglimpopo · 08/06/2008 13:06

I rang a and e and they said would be ok as long as not too swollen or painful or bleeding.

Am considering myself bloody lucky as could hav e been huge disaster.

Agree with ScienceTeacher.

Hand injuries can start benign and end up pretty horrific with permanent nerve damage and stuff.

ScienceTeacher · 08/06/2008 13:07

Time to head to a different A&E then

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 08/06/2008 13:07

I'm not that squeamish, but that really did make me heave a little.

Maybe go up to A&E later when it should be a bit quieter?

ScienceTeacher · 08/06/2008 13:07

nerve damage, tendon damage etc.

ggglimpopo · 08/06/2008 13:08

Yes, it does sound sound utterly disgusting. it is surreal how minor it actually seems.

I will actually rush to a and e if am slightest bit worried.

Get yourself to A and E. I did the same thing, metal skewer and a mushroom were involved, and like you I felt fine but went to hospital to be told ANY all the way through injury needs careful examination plus a darn good professional disinfecting swill through (sorry to say that hurt like buggery) as the skewer pushed all its germs and bacteria and other general nasties into very sensitive, easily infected raw tissue. So even tho you might feel fine now, that's just shock, you really ought to be seen.

Kindersurprise · 08/06/2008 19:26

How is your hand now, GG? Did you have a good bbq? Hope you weren't sitting in A&E.

ladytophamhatt · 08/06/2008 20:02

Blimey GGG, i agree with teh others...you should deffo go to A&E.

Hopefully, you're already there as you've not beeen on the thread for a while.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/06/2008 20:05

def an a&e accident if there ever was one!!! I really hope you have gone.

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 08/06/2008 20:12

I have texted her, will let you know.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/06/2008 21:07

oh good!! thanks Bree

ScienceTeacher · 08/06/2008 21:08

Waiting with baited breath.

I'm sure if she has gone to A&E, everything will work out well.

fryalot · 08/06/2008 21:15

GGG - just in case you haven't already gone to A & E, a cautionary tale for you:

I cut my right thumb. Twas quite a bad cut, but I was busy at the time so I just wrapped some tissue round it and carried on. It bled a bit, but not so much that it worried me, it didn't really hurt at all.

Anyway... that was about three years ago and I still can't feel my thumb. I can move it and occasionally I get kind of pins and needles in it, it looks normal and functions normally. But I can't feel it.

Perhaps I should have gone to A & E at the time

Get yerself down the hospital, woman!

ggglimpopo · 08/06/2008 22:39

ahem - never went to a ane.

All seems ok.
