from front to back - squewering sweet potatoes onto a fiercesome bbq implement.

Didn't really hurt or bleed. It isn't swollen or disgusting; have bandaged it. I think dh was wobblier than me about it all.

Blimey.

I once put a lens in my eye without having rinsed the peroxide out, and it was agony!

I've done that too - OUUUCCHHH - and almost impossible to get out because your eye screws up shut and waters like mad.

ggglimpopo · 09/06/2008 08:57

It is only a skewer sized hole.Tmi. I decided tissue damage was less likely than sweet potato rot....

Twas Heximodine btw, not hydrogene peroxide!

Whilst we are being competitive, the sweet potatoes were organic...

OP posts:
ggglimpopo · 09/06/2008 09:21

Oh, and the skewer was Peter Jones, circa 1990...

Throck I did that with lenses and peroxide - I picked up the peroxide to rinse thinking it was saline THE PAIN THE PAIN!!!!! Had blurry vision and bright red eye for two days. Nice

brucelovesfrumpygrumpy · 09/06/2008 09:56

oh, and hope your hand gets better very soon ggg!!!

BlueDragonfly · 09/06/2008 10:05

this thread is disgusting! but LOL @ at least they were organic sweet potatoes!

I once rubbed Vicks in my eye...OUCH

spongebrainbigpants · 09/06/2008 10:22

ggg, my brother would think you were amazing for not going to hospital and would probably want to stick this story up in the A&E dept he works in as an example to the wasters he has to deal with - yesterday he had to deal with a woman who had phoned an ambulance to take her to A&E because she had a blocked nose that hadn't cleared up for 5 weeks, and a man who lived opposite the hospital and had a cut arm but felt an ambulance would be easier than walking!!!!!

I some how suspect that A&E staff would not have been surprised to see you with an injury that serious - I hope your GP sorts you out today!

solo · 09/06/2008 10:49

I can't believe the comments of ' you can't have done any damage if you can xyz'
Are any of you doctors? Medical attention should have been sought straight away... Sweet potatoes are root vegetables and root veg have earth on them which harbours all kinds of nasties. The skewer is unlikely to have been sterilised before or during use and is metal...Bacteria alone can cause some pretty serious problems for a flesh wound and don't forget, in extreme cases, you can get Hep A through dirty root veg.

spongebrainbigpants · 09/06/2008 11:03

solo, I would certainly have dragged OP down to A&E straightaway but don't think we can force her to go against her will .

GP will prob give her a tetanus booster and proper clean up today. Personally, with my pain threshold, I would have been throwing up/passing out and screaming like a baby. I'm impressed by anyone who could do that and remain calm - but then shock does help!

Kindersurprise · 09/06/2008 11:33

Glad to see that you are going ot the docs today, GGG. lol at the sweet potatoes.

It could have been worse, imagine if you had burnt your hand while rewarming Greggs sausage rolls...

Would you have posted on MN if you had?

belgo · 09/06/2008 11:34

let us know what the GP says!

ggglimpopo · 09/06/2008 11:58

Gp nearly passed out when I told her had got my dh (she knows him to do sinus lavage - and she found the wound a little gruesome but beautifully clean and bandaged. Ha!

I have a tetanus jab and fucidine cream.

And a teeny plaster which really does not do justice to my bravery or the huge war wound beneath.

OP posts:
belgo · 09/06/2008 12:03

glad you got the tetanus jab! hope your hand gets better soon.

HuwEdwards · 09/06/2008 12:03

crikey, reading this has put me off BBQs for good. Glad you got it sorted GGG and as for squirting through....had to re-read about 3 times before I believed what I was seeing.

solo · 09/06/2008 12:13

Is that the Fucidine AB cream? My Ds at age 7 pronounced it fuckidine cream (appropriate really as it was for his willy)...I'm sure that was on purpose though!
