Very embarrassing problem..

Have namechanged..

sometimes when I open my legs, there is an awful smell. Really bad.

Once, I was out with a friend and the smell was so bad, she actually said 'this bar smells disgusting', when it was me..

It makes no difference if I have showered or bathed, if I have used soap or shower gel or nothing at all. I cannot find any reason for this, and it has only started happening in the last few months.

Does anyone have any ideas? I feel so, so but I don't know what to do.

If it helps, the smell is foul. Like rotten, almost.

Oh god

I met my friend outside the bar, we went in, after about ten minutes she said she could smell something (so could I, so could everyone ) then we finished our drinks, and I said i wasn't feeling well and left. We went our seperate ways.

What does not ring true?

you could ask for some diazapam before going to the docs. i had really bad smear experience after DS was born and the only way i could get one done was by taking something to relax. GP was happy enough to prescribe enough for me to get it done. if you can't face seeing them try phoning and see if the docs can help to settle your nerves.

blushface · 13/05/2008 13:37

Oh, and mmj - that particular time was 2 days before I had the mc.

If it's an infection it will damage your reproductive organs and possible cause infertility and cause you to be extremely ill (hospital, i/v drip etc).... you do have to go to doctor/ nurse with friend explainging what's what.

BUT it doesn't have to be as hideous as you fear- your nice nurse/ doctor will give you spatula thingy to take into loo to take your own sample to be sent off for testing. There is no need for you to even pull down your knickers in front of doctor but you MUST see one but make sure she is nice and brng friend to speak on your behalf... I've had to take swab from 8 year old fanjo and obviously didn't want to make poor DD get freaked out and nice GP told me to swab her underwear... it worked in terms of providing diagnosis

Have you already performed your own internal? You wouldn't be the first to put one tampon in on top of another... also potentially hideously risky

Good luck and sorry your baby's birth was so traumatic

luvaduck · 13/05/2008 13:38

sorry haven't read all replies

please go
is likely to be an infection - either bacterial vaginosis or related to misaccriage which could affect your fertility, and casue chronic pain/adhesions.

if you don't want to be examined you could talk it over with gp and you could do a self swab or she could try some antibitocs without seeing

BUT it will not phase her at all
i am Gp and have seen hundreds, no thousands of fanjo's. sometimes about 10 a day. they come in all shapes and sizes and its just like looking at feet for me. please don't be embarrassed, its just a body part.
and your gp will have seen loads of stuff that is way more gross.
it is really important for your health and futre fertility. at least go and talk to her (find a female one)
you could go to a walk in centre or GUM/sexual health clinic which is anonymous and you'll never have to see that person again (you can ask to see a woman)
please do it!
(i also hate having smears though so know where you're coming from)

NJM - I could not tell any of my friends this. I couldn't.

For a while before I was diagnosed with PND, I actually couldn't go to the doctor without getting drunk before. it was so bad that they considered me an alcoholic (which actually helped in getting me into the psych unit)

So, best not.

expatinscotland · 13/05/2008 13:40

you do NOT need to tell ANYONE other than the nurse or GP why you are there.

just say you are having a personal or female problem and if anyone gets arsey, ask to see the practice manager.

blushface · 13/05/2008 13:40

Oh, so there could be a tampon up there?

How would I do my own internal?

OP posts:
Lulumama · 13/05/2008 13:41

get your GP to come and do a home visit. or ask the nurse to come out.

you cannot live with this, and i can see that you have issues with internal exams, which is more common than you think

but your prejudicing your health by not doing this and by not having smears

if you live near me, i will come with you.

you must, must go, it will be done and dusted withinn 5- 10 mins

or you will end up very ill, and on a gynae ward with a lot of people looking at you.

this is not normal, you cannot just live with this

you could have retained tissues or soemthing.

Could be a tampon on an infection further up/uterus. If you go to the doctors they will tell you what to do.

Lulumama · 13/05/2008 13:42

even if there is a tampon there, and you remove it yourself, you must still go to the docs as the infection needs treating.

MargaretMountford · 13/05/2008 13:42

where are you blushface - in case any of us are near - we'd certainly go with you

binkleandflip · 13/05/2008 13:42

cant see it is a tampon, I feel sure it is to do with not being checked at the time of the mc

blushface · 13/05/2008 13:43

Thank you so much for the offer, but I live in Scotland. It is so kind of you to offer though.

I still don't think I could..

OP posts:
binkleandflip · 13/05/2008 13:43

with the greatest of respect, I dont know you blushface so I wouldnt go with you to the docs, however you know you should go and I hope you get the courage to look after yourself, tough it out and go.

Good luck x

cheeryface · 13/05/2008 13:44

maybe it is a tampon. i once had two in at once, went out for the night and everything and didn't know until i found there were 2 strings hanging out .

i was about 18 at the time so didn't have any erm bagginess down there and still managed it!

blushface · 13/05/2008 13:44

binkle - do you think I should have been checked out better after the mc?

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 13/05/2008 13:44

you should have been offered a scan to check that all the products were out of the uterus after the m/c.

blushface · 13/05/2008 13:45

Should I ask for one? I don't have a fear of going for a scan.

(I know, totally irrational)

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 13/05/2008 13:46

you still need to have the infection treated.

you'd need to go in for that and they'd probably schedule a scan from there.
