Flu/cough with gastro pain/nausea

Hi,

So on Christmas Eve, Eve I woke up shivering body aches and a cough.

Christmas morning - still the same symptoms as above but also the worse HEARTBURN and NAUSEA!!!

I'm now on day 23 - yep I'm counting because it is miserable!

Coughs still lingering a little bit but much better but the gastro symptoms are horrible! Upper stomach pain/burning, reflux. Nausea is getting better ( I think mostly due to Silicon gel from boots)

I've got a drs appointment on Friday l, just wondering if anyone else has/had this?

What did the Dr give, how long did it last?

*Note I've never had reflux/heartburn before. I'm mid thirties, healthy weight, don't drink/smoke, not a coffee drinker - I don't fit and of the "reflux criteria"

Thanks

It did but not so much now, I actually thought I had a broken rib it was so painful

It's just now a constant low key nausea, a bit like a hangover!

My GP also gave me anti nausea meds

It's a nightmare, I'm week 2 and it's never ending

Decided to try and go out for a short walk today to get some fresh air, chest is now sore and I have coughed all afternoon

And nope still can't go far from a bathroom, nausea and lack of appetite is a good start to the diet but it's a bit drastic!

Another poster said crackers were good.

I hadn't thought to weigh myself.

Mygangofthree · 21/01/2025 17:33

@justasking111 I've been doing that diet since this started, the nausea was so bad that toat was basically my diet for 2 whole weeks, only drinking water. Breakfast toast, lunch small chicken breast and veg, dinner salmon fillet small jacket pot and asparagus.
So pleased to hear that you are improving

Thanks. It really is a time thing. I've had it before and PPIs, gaviscon advance and a strict diet are the only thing that allows my insides to heal.

I've had gastroscopy in the past. By the time the appointment comes through it's healed.

We're all doing dry January by default.

Mygangofthree · 21/01/2025 17:58

@justasking111 what has your healing time frame been? I've read about having to mean off PPIs to avoid rebound

You do get rebound if you're on them a long time.

I weaned off by not taking for a couple of days then when rebound hit took one. The rebound isn't as bad as this bally gastritis. I've got nexium in the cupboard so will probably take one of those if I get rebound.

Healing time last time was three weeks. But this time it could be longer.

@Mygangofthree My heartburn and cramps lasted at least 2-3 weeks. I felt sick, had pains around my ribs (hence the gallbladder scan) and abdominal pain, upper and lower. I had a few days where I was rushing to the loo, even after a cup of tea or a small bite to eat.

My gallbladder was removed years ago so I was really baffled.

Around the adams apple and right at the top of my throat. I already take medication for acid reflux and its but its not touching the sides. These viruses seem to really affect my digestive system

Mygangofthree · 21/01/2025 19:29

@JTA1972 I've never suffered with heartburn in my life, what ever this infection is it's really doing a number on everyone. Maybe get a wedge pillow until it starts to subside....
I really hope you are feeling better soon

Was doing really good with the nausea feeling (hadn't really had it half as bad for a couple of weeks) just that horrible burning empty tummy feeling.
I've just come on my period BAM back to feeling horrendously nauseated! I read that prostaglandins are high just before and first couple days of your period.
I never suffered with this before but with a very unhappy tummy it's defo triggered it.
So if your symptoms seem to have come back and you don't know why, it's might be that. Joys!

@LeaveALittleNote do you think the antibiotics made your gastro symptoms better? Or had they already totally gone by the time you was out on the antibiotics?

They’d gone by the time I started the antibiotics.

Mygangofthree · 27/01/2025 18:47

@Kaminari how are you feeling now?

ADealingMummy · 27/01/2025 18:51

Yes my husband has this . A virus - runny nose , body aches , tired , teeth hurt , heart burn by tummy aches and nausea.
Also my colleague at work has really bad sinus pain followed by tummy aches .

Mygangofthree · 27/01/2025 19:16

@ADealingMummy I hope your husband is feeling better soon. 5 weeks in and I'm still feeling rubbish!

Better than I was but still coughing and tired, thanks for asking

How are you?

Mygangofthree · 27/01/2025 20:35

@NotaRealHousewife my cough is almost gone now, but still suffering with the heartburn pain, how's your gastro pain now, did you have to get antib's for the cough?

OP posts:
NotaRealHousewife · 27/01/2025 23:11

I did as I just couldn't get it shifted, no more pain either

Mygangofthree · 28/01/2025 12:08

@NotaRealHousewife had your gastro pains/nausea gone before you started your antibiotics for the cough?

OP posts:
NotaRealHousewife · 28/01/2025 12:23

No only when I started the antibiotics

Well I tried to go out and tidy up the garden a bit but exhausted and now have a headache so have had to come in and lie down

Mygangofthree · 28/01/2025 16:03

@NotaRealHousewife take it easy, the gardening can wait 😉 drs have just given me 7 days of amoxicillin as chest is still rattling at 5 weeks on (even though I was told by the nurse at the drs last Monday that it was clear)
Are they the antib's you was put on?

OP posts:
NotaRealHousewife · 28/01/2025 16:41

Penicillin for me , I hope you start to feel better soon.

Mygangofthree · 28/01/2025 18:25

@NotaRealHousewife thank you 🙂
