Flu

DH and I have succumbed to the flu that's been going around and feel absolutely awful. Started with body aches, sweating/chills and headache. I was also vomiting and barely able to even keep water down. Doing a little better today though.

We've cancelled our Christmas plans to see family but I'm wondering by what day you started to feel better. Tomorrow is day 3/4 and, with young DC, I'd love some reassurance that tomorrow won't be completely rubbish. Feeling very sad that Christmas is spoilt when it's my favourite time of year.

This is day 7 for me - I started feeling slightly better last night - even laying in bed after my last dose of paracetamol had worn off, I realised that I didn't feel as bad.

Had patchy sleep what with coughing and strange dreams (always a feature of illness for me), but I've managed a shower and washed my hair. Wiped me out though, felt weak and short of breath afterwards. Getting a veerrrryy faint hint of smells, maybe the ghost of toothpaste and eucalyptus shampoo!

DH feels a bit under the weather still. We have two small dogs, I managed to take them round the block yesterday but regretted it halfway round. Will try to get them out today, but if not they'll just have to be barky little twats until I feel well enough to take them for their normal run.

Glad you are feeling a bit better @PoisonRain . I am on day 5 so hoping i will start improving in next couple of days. Meant to be working Thursday although will be at home.

@CorsicaDreaming you know how to do glamour - I'm both impressed and wincing! Ive got chest crackles, so been put on antibiotics now.

Hope the antibiotics help. I'm now taking high dose Boots friendly bacteria (they are actually called that 😂) to try and reinstate the gut biome that will have been completely wiped out by the antibiotics...

I'm off the other end of the antibiotics - but still feel shit, just not quite so shit.

So grateful to have "only" had the flu and no extra complications needing antibiotics and the like. I feel pretty much normal now (day 9) although I'm tiring quicker and I still have the cough. Hope everyone starts to feel better as soon as possible.

At least I've picked up a new skill. I now fart in the middle of most coughing fits.

Yes, had a heavy cold mid November then DP had it but not so bad (no “dressing gown of doom” needed!😆)
Then I caught something else… omg, it came from nowhere! Freezing cold, no matter what I wore, heating on full blast, literally shaking with cold. Sleeping, then getting up and sleeping some more, not eating for 3 days but drinking loads for my sore throat. Awful headache that made me cry. Couldn’t barely raise a limb with the aches and pains from hell… even my face ached ( and all my teeth). Each morning, both eyes were glued shut with “snotty?” gunk and I had to shower to unglue them… this happened for days! The bug has hung around for about 9 days, I am still below par now, tbh, but I did lose about half a stone! Don’t really finish my meals still and like others, haven’t really bothered with the Christmas food… had to bin a lot😠 Still sleeping at random times but generally better.

P.S. Sudafed pills in the blue box are good for sinus face and head pain, around £4 on Amazon, to your door.

Oh don't, I've resorted to pads because whenever I cough some pee jets out. Mortified. My pelvic floor has abandoned ship.

I took two days off work two weeks ago and I’m still not right now. Got it from my daughter who luckily recovered quickly, started with headache, raging temp and chills and so so tired.literally been going to bed with the kids at 7 every night. Christmas was shit, managed to make it nice for the kids and I’m so glad I was prepared this year and had wrapped everything ready.

this is gross but I’ve literally got through a ton of toilet roll blowing out thick green stuff, Which then gave me headaches I’ve never had before, felt like I’d actually damaged my skull (dramatic yes but true) I’m still super knackered but stamina is coming back but nose is still stuffy
so glad I’ve had two weeks off work or I don’t know how I would have got through, I’m sure my boss throught i was pulling a fast one at the start, wish she could have seen how unwell I’ve been!

I'm on day 5 now. Started with just a head cold then Fevers aches and chills and a viral rash and now I've got the trots. Feel very weak and tired but glad the cold and chills have lifted. I think I'll be better by the weekend.

To add - I'm fortunate in that I've got no kids to look after so I'm able to rest properly. I've been alternating between bed and sofa for 3 days. If I'd tried to push though I don't think I'd be recovering so quickly !

I was starting to feel better but had a very stressful day yesterday and I feel pretty rubbish today.

Day 6 here, temperature has gone. Just feels like a bad cold now. Head still hurting a lot.

Feeling generally a lot better and have been out of the house running short errands the last couple of days. I still got caught by a sudden wave of feeling yucky and needing a nap yesterday.

Worst part now is the persistent headache, I can’t seem to shift it. And feeling low level queasy.

Day 18. Coughed so much that I brought my lunch back up. Antibiotics finished now.

My husband and Son have had this, both on the second week. Husband just feels generally unwell now and Son left with an awful cough.
Did anyone have stomach pains with it?

@Choccymumma not so much pains but it started with a very upset stomach that's still not right. Nausea too but that's gone now thankfully

Imagine how much worse you'd feel if you hadn't been vaccinated...

Only the first few days. Stomach now just feels more like I've done lots of crunches - think it's from all the coughing and retching from coughing.

@Choccymumma Not so much stomach pains but I did vomit a few times in the first 24 hours and had very, very little appetite for three or four days. Then all my stomach muscles hurt from coughing.

DC who brought virus home from school originally had seemed a lot better toward the end of last week. I've been up with her tonight whilst she's coughing and coughing. Is it exposure to more viruses at school? Can she recatch from us what she's just got over? She's dozed off again, but is coughing in her sleep. I also don't want to send her in to infect others if she's caught something else.

How is everyone doing? I’m on day 10. First 6 days was 39+ fever. Now down to exhaustion, coughing till I retch and sinusitis. Taste and smell slowly coming back. Going for a full 14 day flu experience :(

On day 15 here, never felt so unwell in my life, flu has gone but I now have chest infection, pnuemonia and a potential blood clot on my lung, I hope everyone else stays as the flu and has a speedy recovery xx
