Hi can anyone give me any positive story's.
I had a cold 2 weeks ago which turned into more of a sinus cold a week later, was really phlemy. Now iv had a right blocked ear for thr last 12 days. Crackles when I eat or yawn or tilt my head back. Will this get better eventually? Driving me mad as everything sounds muffled and it's giving me anxiety all the time.

OP if you are using beconase or other steroid spray, and it's not helping, you might want to stop using it for a week, the body can build up a resistance and then using it actually makes it worse (it's called a rebound effect, same happens if you use a decongestant spray for too long).
It's ok to keep using sterimar and neilmed.
If you haven't tried neilmed yet, it's worth giving it a go. It completely washes out your sinuses and that can help to clear the eustachian tubes a little bit.

Have you tried sudofed nasal spray ? A doctor told me to do this a for my ears/sinuses and it worked

Delatron · 28/11/2024 12:20

Kaylee19882024 · 28/11/2024 12:04

@Delatron hi, no I havnt tried those, I'd like to be able to take ibuprofen but as I am asthmatic, doctors are against it :( I havnt tried any ear stuff, only beconase nose spray and sterimar salt water spray rinse. Oh and paracetamol which is pointless really as I have no pain with it. I'm limited been asthmatic to what I can use. Is yours back to normal now?

It is but mine was purely ear issues. Sorry you can’t take Ibuprofen.
Ear drops may help in conjunction to nose spray?

Kaylee19882024 · 28/11/2024 13:04

@lovemycbf hiya, no I havnt used sudafed as I'm asthmatic, everything that's good to use for my ears is no good for asthma lol I can't win!

Kaylee19882024 · 28/11/2024 13:18

@lovemycbf
Yeh I could probably do that I would of thought. I just need a magic wand right now 😔 I hope this clears before Christmas. I don't even want to look at my Christmas decor at the minute let alone get them out. Il be putting them up Christmas eve at this rate lol

@neonjumper oh really! I might buy some boiled sweets today and give that a little go, yeh it's so wierd what a blocked ear/ears makes you feel like isn't it. Literally has put me off everything. How long did you have yours blocked for?

It was about 3 weeks ... it was definitely a long period .

Kaylee19882024 · 02/12/2024 08:20

Hey everyone, so I'm currently still quite blocked/congested in my ears but I keep getting more and more crackling.
Does anyone think thats a good sign? Or not?
Thanks 💕

Yes crackling is a good sign, keep up the steam inhalation etc.

@NotbloodyGivingupYet
Will do :) thankyou 🙏

How about adding something like menthol crystals to the steam inhalation? Think it's meant to be mainly for sinus congestion but might help?

Capricornandproud · 02/12/2024 08:39

Look up eustachian tube dysfunction. Go to a chemist for a strong version of fexofenadine or phenylephrine (sinutab etc) as they work to dry out your sinuses. For a steam, you need boiling water and olbas oil, towel over your head over a bowel and do it way longer and more often than you think! Avoid dairy, drink plenty water and nasal sprays only work for short periods of time. Hot water bottle under your ear helps the pressure I find (lifelong sufferer awaiting Grommets being fitted!)

soupfiend · 02/12/2024 10:21

I cant face putting my head over a bowel....

But seriously, Im on steroid nasal sprays as it is, Im on the maximum dose. This has been around 6/8 weeks or so for me now. Im going to go to a chemist today to see if I need more antibiotics, Ive had 2 courses already

TheSidewinderSleepsTonite · 12/02/2025 07:12

@Kaylee19882024 how are you, op? I have this right now. Been ill with a virus since Saturday the 1st of Feb then my ears blocked Saturday just gone and both have been blocked since. I'm on antibiotics for a sinus infection as my nose was completely closed too and the right side of my face hurt. My nose is clearing now, face pain gone but my ears are still blocked. Every night some wax creeps out but not enough to make any difference. I feel like I'm constantly underwater, I can't hear very well, no taste nor smell. Losing 3 senses has not been easy😫

bookmarket · 12/02/2025 07:30

I had this late last year. It went on for several weeks and I thought it would never get better. Its likely eustachian tube dysfunction one can get following a virus. Mine followed a sinusey cold and I'd flown! In the end I took mucous thinning cough medicine and kept doing the Valsalva manoeuvre and that helped.

HotCrossBunplease · 12/02/2025 08:22

Hey OP, did your ears finally unblock?

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 12/02/2025 10:35

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it but an otovent balloon sorted out my ear that had been blocked for about 4 months.

Fitzfuckitall · 17/02/2025 09:51

Hi OP, did this resolve itself? Suffering myself and desperately needing to read about positive results

TheSidewinderSleepsTonite · 17/02/2025 09:58

I'm on day 10 of blocked ears. My nose is still a little stuffy but it's getting there. I'm hoping once the sinuses and nose are clear that my ears wil unblock. If not, I'm off to the ent next week.

It’s just awful isn’t it! I’m on week 3. I’m steaming to try and get rid of any mucus.

Do you mind me asking if you’ve had the grommets yet and if that’s resolved it for you?

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 17/02/2025 20:48

otovent.com

Please try an otovent balloon. It takes a few goes but made such a difference to my blocked ear.

Thank you. I’ve got one and been using it but it doesn’t make any difference. How long did you use yours for?

My left ear has let up a bit and I can hear slightly better now. My right ear is still blocked but I've had some crackling today and light popping (though it hasnt opened up anything yet) so I'm hoping that means there's air getting through now and I'm close to it being over...
Tomorrow marks two weeks of this shit.

How are your ears doing?

Funnily enough, my 4 year old just got one of those balloons as he has ear issues. We need to try it (he has a tummy bug right now so didn't really want him blowing up a balloon with his nose right now). But if it helps, I was going to try with me too.
