Hi can anyone give me any positive story's.
I had a cold 2 weeks ago which turned into more of a sinus cold a week later, was really phlemy. Now iv had a right blocked ear for thr last 12 days. Crackles when I eat or yawn or tilt my head back. Will this get better eventually? Driving me mad as everything sounds muffled and it's giving me anxiety all the time.

You have my sympathy. I've got exactly the same. Been going on for over 2 weeks following a virus only add in a perforated eardrum to mine.
I've been given a nasal spray to try and treat what was described as "Eustachion tube dysfunction" as both ears are blocked and I'm being reviewed in a few weeks to see if perforation has healed.

I've normally got perfect hearing but can't be bothered to even watch tv atm as everything is just muffled.

I had similar a month or so ago.
I went to the pharmacy and they gave me some antibiotics

@honestasever
Hi, how long after did it clear up?
I have had antibiotics, a week ago for the sinus problem in the first place then after that became blocked.
I had just a normal cold, then turned into a nasty sinus thing that went on a few days (was given antibiotics and nasal spray at that point, due to been phlemy)
Then few days after became blocked in my ear, since then i have done all sorts to try help it but nothing seems to work. It crackles about but that's it :(

It's deeply miserable isn't it.
Keep on with steam inhalation (bowl of hot water, couple of drops of olbas oil in it, use a towel over your head to keep in the steam).
Do this a couple of times a day, while you have symptoms. It feels like it's doing no good, but it will help to clear out the deeper sinuses and it can take a while to work so don't give up. Sinuses and ear are all connected so relieving one can help the other.
Neilmed saline rinse can also help although it's a horrible feeling when you use it.
There's a manoeuvre you can do to help with inner ear, I'll look it up. One of the reasons it makes you feel so bad is because it affects your balance. So the whole world feels a bit off.
Final thought, look up sinus drainage pressure points. Rubbing on these points can trigger your sinuses to drain, for instant relief (only temporary but welcome anyway). If the points hurt when you press on them, they are the ones to work on!

NotbloodyGivingupYet · 24/11/2024 16:04

Epley manoeuvre if you are getting vertigo because of the blocked ear.

Hi, yes any help and advice welcome over here :) it literally does feel like nothings working. I thought when it crackles it would give me some hope but nope.. nothing! .. I'm just taking the days as they come and really hoping it will unblock. Its such a wierd and horrible feeling. I can't live my day normally. It's exhausting me mentally from worrying about it.

I've just had this having had it for about four weeks. Before that, I'd had a really stuffy cold and chesty cough for about three weeks which just wasn't going anywhere
What helped

  • my cold finally going and generally being less decongested as a result
  • have a regular back, neck and shoulder massage. TMI alert but I coughed up so much gunk after that and generally felt "clearer" throughout my systems
  • after that, doing lots of lymphatic drainage across my sinuses, down the back of the ear & around my neck. Google this and you can find lots of demonstrations of how to do it
  • holding a warm flannel against the back of my ear and then putting karvol on there when I went to sleep at night
It just gradually all got less stuffy and then, gradually, it changed from yawning doing nothing to yawning clearing it from seconds to yawning making them pop. By chance, I had a work trip at the end of last week and the flight sorted the last of it. I had been at a meeting in Canary Wharf a week before and going up to the 15th floor had had no impact at all and I had thought it would be a bit off if I asked if I could joyride to the top of that particular tower!

What didn't seem to help

  • any of the saline or medical sprays
  • antihistamine
TorturedParentsDepartment · 24/11/2024 16:20

If it's been going on this long I'd go to the GP OP. I ended up going and needed a steroid nose spray to clear up the whole sinus fucked up thing I had going on.

soupfiend · 24/11/2024 16:23

Ive got this at the moment, Im trying to find someone who can do acupuncture for me as I want to see if the tenseness in the neck will be fixed and then hopefully help. Im on every med there is for it anyway and nothing helping. Feel like Im on a plane all the time

Kaylee19882024 · 24/11/2024 16:23

@thehousewiththesagegreensofa hi, glad to hear yours fixed up :)
Wow, the only 2 that doesn't help you are the two I'm doing most lol
Il deffo give your advice a shot.
It sounds like it's going to be a bit longer for me yet, iv only been blocked 12 days, most people keep saying weeks :( i feel like i can't cope with it half the time.
My cold and sinus part of it seems okay don't seem to feel like I have phlem now but do feel maybe a bit swollen still which I guess won't help in the back of nose.

Epley manoeuvre if you are getting vertigo because of the blocked ear.

Not unless your ear crystals are in the wrong place, you can end up causing damage if you dont actually need that

Kaylee19882024 · 24/11/2024 16:26

@TorturedParentsDepartment
Hi, how long did yours take to unblock? I will probably get back in touch with my doctor tomorrow and see if they could do that for me.

Weeks and weeks Ive had this, also get pops and crackles in my jaw and ear from time to time

I havent actually got any gunge so there isnt anything to drain, this is all inflammation but how to get it gone? Im on steroid nasal spray as it is

Kaylee19882024 · 24/11/2024 16:30

@soupfiend
Feel for you too.
Doesn't help that I'm a big baby with anything lol but my ear been blocked and the muffled sounds are really taking its toll on me. Its a scary feeling I hate it so much. Hope yours resolves fast too.

Yeh same here, no phlem anymore or nasty stuff coming out. It's like inflamed or something. My daughter had same problem too she's 11, and hers has cleared up after 2 weeks. She yawned and it came back. Fine since. But mine just won't do anything. Just as you say crackles time to time and everything is muffled

I get this from time to time. I use Otex Express ear drops for a day or so. Usually clears it for me.

Yours sounds miserable

Aww bless you, I feel for you believe me. Its the worst thing iv ever gone through. I can't sleep, getting like 2 hours a night. Then 20 min naps here and there. Exhausted.
Iv lost half a stone in 12 days as I don't like the sound of eating now. Pluss it's squashed my appetite and I'm a good eater lol
I try be positive 1 minute but then cry and depressed the next. Hope all us ear blockers get fixed ASAP 🙏

I had this over the summer and unfortunately it took ages to clear :( I was completely deaf at one point, the crackling was a good sign as that was when it started to improve.
As per PP, look up sinus drain massage which is think helped me. I was also prescribed Lymecycline for my skin which has an off label use for sinus problems, I started to improve within a week

Kaylee19882024 · 24/11/2024 16:59

@Ineedanewsofa
Hi, sorry to hear you went through this too. When yours unblocked, did it gradually come back or just pop back?
