Unsure whether to insist DH goes to a&e

He's woken up this morning with, firstly, an upset stomach and quite severe mid-to-lower back pain which has now progressed to some fairly heavy duty vomiting. Took his temperature and it came up 34.4 which is worrying but I'm not sure how securely he had it tucked under his arm and I can't get him to take it orally as anything in his mouth is making him vomit. He feels normal-ish temp to touch although very clammy. I'm thinking kidney infection although he says he had no urinary symptoms until about an hour ago, now he's saying he constantly feels like he needs to go but nothing happens when he tries.

We're awaiting callback from 111, they said within 45 minutes but that was an hour ago, just looking for opinions on whether to keep waiting (and for how long before I call back/take him to a&e) or whether his symptoms are worrying enough that I should be taking him to hospital now. He's a terrible patient at the best of times but is in a lot of pain with his back so think he would go if I insisted.

I wouldn’t hesitate to take him with the symptoms you’ve described

Hoplittlebunnyhophophopandstop · 07/04/2024 16:08

I agree yes to A and E. How long ago did he last wee? Low temp and not weeing for 12 hours are sepsis symptoms.

lissie123 · 07/04/2024 16:09

Please take him to A&E now

Ratfinkstinkypink · 07/04/2024 16:10

I'd go now, cold sepsis is a thing and he sounds very unwell.

ShrubRose · 07/04/2024 16:10

A&E

spottedinthewilds · 07/04/2024 16:12

Unfortunately A&E is your only option, there is no point waiting such a long time for anything else and the sooner you get there the sooner he will get seen.
It's not his fault 111 is not fit for purpose.

kefirgiraffe · 07/04/2024 16:15

I'm normally really loathed to recommend A&E unless it signals a true emergency...but in this case I say go now.

Pinkpinkpink15 · 07/04/2024 16:15

A&E and SAY you suspect Sepsis.

Hope he's ok x

olympicsrock · 07/04/2024 16:17

Sounds like ureteric colic ( kidney stone) perhaps with infection. A@E for DH.
I’m a senior medic :-)

RollOnSpringDays · 07/04/2024 16:17

It’s a yes from me too. Could be sepsis.

Youdontknowmedoyou · 07/04/2024 16:19

Did he go? It sounds bad.

Keepingittogetherstepbystep · 07/04/2024 16:25

Definitely ask if could be sepsis, it needs urgent attention if it is.,

NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy · 07/04/2024 16:37

Yes A&E definitely... take stuff for a long wait and ask if it could be sepsis on arrival - low temp + UTI symptoms suggest it

RafaistheKingofClay · 07/04/2024 16:38

This is an A&E job. No point waiting for 111 they are only going to send you there anyway.

RafaistheKingofClay · 07/04/2024 16:39

I’d be prepared for them to keep him in too so take overnight stuff.

Janetsmug · 07/04/2024 16:41

We're on our way to a&e in a taxi now, will update when I can, thanks for all replies.

I hope he's ok, I'd be querying sepsis with those symptoms

Louu247 · 07/04/2024 17:03

Yes I would go to a and e now x

scaredofff · 07/04/2024 18:01

Hoping he is ok soon op x

Catmama123 · 07/04/2024 18:07

Glad you're at a&e now, hope he gets good care 🤞🏼

Deebee90 · 07/04/2024 18:12

Make sure you tell the triage you are worried about sepsis as half the time they try and fob people off.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 07/04/2024 18:14

My dad had similar was his prostate.
Dh had similar kidney stones and another time prostatitis (sp?)

Good luck 💐

Coffeecaketoday · 07/04/2024 18:53

Good luck OP. Thinking of you and your DH

Radyward · 07/04/2024 18:55

Low temp of that magnitude suggests sepsiis
