Is anyone suffering with this really sore throat and cough?

I've had it for 3 weeks now. The first week I was absolutely exhausted with it. The tickly cough is mainly in the morning and evenings now. My throat is so sore and achy. When I wake up I feel like I am swallowing razor blades. I just can't seem to shift it.

Yes! Me! I'm literally laying in bed with it now. It's worse evenings and night time. Hurts every time I swallow. I don't have a cold or headache or any other symptoms just mega sore throat! What are you taking? I've had lemsips and honey and lemon water. Going to get some antiseptic throat spray today x

HotChocWine · 09/03/2024 07:44

Yep week 3 here

Totallybannanas · 09/03/2024 10:13

Lemsip and cough sweets. Will try and get some throat spray too. I stupidly thought I was getting better but then seemed to feel worse again, probably hasn't helped that I haven't taking time off work. The first week was the worst though, as felt total exhaustion and head ache. Have you all tested? I did yesterday due to mother's day but it's negative.

Yes me.

Not quite for as long as you but the razor blades is exactly how I described it.
I have tested positive for covid.
First time I have had it.

DH went to the corner shop last night and bought me a medicinal calippo which actually did help.

Very congested and the coughing killing my throat-taking lemsip with the decongestant for chesty cough alternating with nurofen.
I start to get shivery when it starts to wear off.
I can't remember feeling this poorly for so long in my life!

weywardwoman · 09/03/2024 10:19

We’re all on antibiotics for it here

GodspeedJune · 09/03/2024 10:20

I’m just coming through it. I did two covid tests (for good reason before anyone jumps down my throat) and both negative.

Muckspout · 09/03/2024 10:30

I have got rid of the cough but the sore throat won't go, nearly 3 weeks now. I spoke to my GP and he said to gargle with dispersible Aspirin. That has helped.

delphi13 · 09/03/2024 10:49

Oh no! Please stop! 3 weeks? I'm only at 2 weeks! I have another week to go? I can't!!! Honestly, the pain of my throat is outrageous. I've never taken an illegal drug in my life yet I've been googling cannabis edibles to see if getting some might provide more pain relief than over the counter 🤣 given up on that line of thought but seriously. I can't continue like this!

TomatoketchupfromMandS · 09/03/2024 10:52

My dad, sister & niece & nephew all seem to have this. They keep thinking they’re feeling better & then feel worse again. I’m really trying to avoid it as I’m immunocompromised. Hope everyone feels better soon!

itsgettingweird · 09/03/2024 11:04

Yes I am. Throat is so sore but it's right at the back behind tonsil level iyswim?

Nose is slightly blocked and upper respiratory cough that burns like fuck.

I've had it 2 days. Not sure I fancy 3 weeks of it

pharmachameleon · 09/03/2024 11:06

Yes but I think it's covid. Paracetamol, ibuprofen and Difflam spray are really helping. Difflam is a miracle worker!

Totallybannanas · 09/03/2024 11:11

I'm hoping it's not COVID as worked all the way through except yesterday when I just had enough because it's not shifting!

TidyDancer · 09/03/2024 11:17

Yep I've got it. Currently on day 6 but it felt worse on days 2-5. Definitely felt more ill in the evenings and at night. Got the razor blade throat (which actually seems a bit better today but not recovered yet). Also the cold but so far not the cough. It's definitely been the worst sore throat I've ever had.

itsgettingweird · 09/03/2024 11:29

I did a covid test this morning as it felt like this when I last had it 2 years ago. (And before anyone says what's the point my ds is clinically vulnerable so it's just peace of mind and I still had a box 🤷‍♀️😂)

It was negative though.

starbrit · 09/03/2024 19:28

How has everyone been today? I have bought that Difflum spray (£8.60!) so hoping that kicks in tonight. Really don't want to be dealing with this as have a busy week ahead. I know no time is ideal for a sore throat.

I had Covid at Christmas so not sure if it could be that. Aren't you immune for three months after getting Covid or is that an urban legend? I will do a test tomorrow morning and report back.

Hope everyone is on the mend x

starbrit · 09/03/2024 19:29

Hot water with honey and Lemon has definitely been my friend today!

Totallybannanas · 10/03/2024 10:01

Yes honey and lemon has been my friend too. In fact I have been continuously drinking warm drinks which helps to soothe it. I have not long woken up and feel like absolute 💩 wondering whether I need an extra day off tomorrow but then I may feel better throughout the day!

Ugh feeling sorry for myself as I do have covid. Tested as we were supposed to be going out with mums for Mother's Day dinner tonight and they are both in their eighties so don't want to risk it. I'm actually feeling ok though.

starbrit · 11/03/2024 06:10

How is everyone feeling today? I was up half the night coughing really badly. It's turned from a sore throat into a cough now. Feel horrible. I have difflam but thinking I need a cough medicine as well now. Hope you're all feeling better than me.

starbrit · 11/03/2024 06:10

I'll do a Covid test this morning, didn't get a chance to do one yesterday.

familyissues12345 · 11/03/2024 12:07

Our whole household has gone down gradually with this over the last couple of weeks. I had such a sore throat and raised gland last week, felt a bit better over the weekend, then bam this morning woken sounding like I'm on 50 fags a day Shock!

starbrit · 11/03/2024 15:47

Oh sorry to hear that @familyissues12345 - when I was coughing my lungs up this morning it reminded me of my 20 a day sovereign lights habit back when I was a student. I least I don't have the taste of fags on my breath.

It's been another rough day of it but I tested negative for Covid so at least it's not that. Get well soon everyone x

tittybumbum · 11/03/2024 17:02

Covid. We had it about 4 weeks ago. One ds and I tested positive. Dh and dd tested negative but we all had the same thing

Totallybannanas · 11/03/2024 21:41

I'm still feeling shit 😭. Had Friday off felt but better yesterday so went back today but my throat is so sore and I'm just losing my voice again. It's not so bad when you are home resting and drinking fluids, not talking. I wake up every day and my mouth is so dry and sore, I keep drinking loads which isn't good with a week bladder and tickly cough.

Going into week 3 here. Have a lovely sinus infection as well, immunocompromised which hasn't helped at all.
Ive found a Vicks inhaler (the one you stick up your nose) works well in bed at night to help with breathing.
