Is anyone suffering with this really sore throat and cough?

I've had it for 3 weeks now. The first week I was absolutely exhausted with it. The tickly cough is mainly in the morning and evenings now. My throat is so sore and achy. When I wake up I feel like I am swallowing razor blades. I just can't seem to shift it.

Ive just recovered from it. Two and a half weeks . It's hit me like a truck. I tested negative .

Tcateh · 11/03/2024 21:57

God so sorry you're all feeling so ill, but I could cry seeing this thread as adult daughter has had this for a week now.

Awful razor blade throat for 4 days, first 2 days even breathing was excruciating.

Got a strep a test off Amazon, negative.

Started with swollen glands one morning, then the next morning bam the throat thing. Never seen her so ill.
Has anyone also got strange vision or blurred bits of vision.

We had to go to A&E as suggested by 111.
Was horrendous as dd so ill with this virus, the waiting, well it was all night.

Doctor said it was scintillating scotoma, an occular type migraine. No actual head pain.
Have heard of other viruses and COVID with vision difficulty.

Tested negative for COVID 2 days ago but maybe it is judging by others experiences?

Any point taking the antibiotic backup?

Prescribed as a just in case but how do you know if you should bother. They say not too unless bacterial. Again how do you know if you should try.

Just to give a bit of hope-

I commented upthread. Tested positive.
Felt worse than I ever had.

Think I am about 10 days ish and have turned the corner.
Am asthmatic so have felt chesty but finally feeling bit better

neverbeensottired · 11/03/2024 22:02

The glands in my neck are so painful I've never known anything like it, it absolutely kills to move my neck. Throat like razor blades too. Anyone else's neck in bits?

MrsMitford3 · 11/03/2024 22:13

@neverbeensottired yes-exactly what I felt

the word throat I have ever had

keep on top of the ibuprofen/paracetemol I was alternating every 2 hours

Totallybannanas · 11/03/2024 22:31

I'm negative, but two colleagues have tested positive. Honestly, my throat is sore sore and I feel like crying as can hardly talk at the end of the day. Never felt anything like this before for so long!

I had this as part of the 100 day cough I’m afraid. I even took photos of my throat because I was incredulous. Flowers to all suffering — it’s miserable, but will pass. Throat way before cough!

neverbeensottired · 12/03/2024 03:37

I'm in agony and can't sleep my throat is the worst I've ever known. I just had a look and it's red, inflamed and has spots. Could it be strep?!

goingtotown · 12/03/2024 04:15

I'm exhausted from coughing, got the razor blade sore throat too.
Had it for 3 days, taking ibuprofen every 4 hours & sucking Jakemans throat & chest lozenges the black packet, they do give a bit of relief.

Could be strep. You can have a bacterial infection without spots too.
Very tricky to know whether to go down the antibiotics route.

Viral equaling no point with the antibiotics.
I sympathise as my daughter has had the same. Absolute agony.
Day 6 and throat has improved alot.

Anyone got vision issues.

Sympathise with you I've never seen my daughter so ill.

Xxx

Might test for covid again today. Not sure why but there's some sort of feeling of doing something needed.

LadyMuckonpancakes · 12/03/2024 08:53

I lost my voice and I’m still quite hoarse.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 12/03/2024 09:12

I had it. A headache followed by a sore throat for a fortnight, but hardly a cough. I tested negative twice.

neverbeensottired · 12/03/2024 10:44

I've just had a positive swap in the pharmacy for strep A and been prescribed antibiotics, hoping this hell will finally be over!!

Totallybannanas · 15/03/2024 07:01

Oh really can a pharmacy do that? 4 weeks in now, throat feeling better but the cough is still persistent. It goes from wet to dry to wet, tickly its awful.

I'm now on week 2. Have lost taste and smell but still testing negative for Covid. The cough seems to go in the day and then make a return in the evening and night. I have a very dry throat and feel phlegmy. Coughing up some gross stuff in the night. I'm going to try that Sudafed spray today. It's miserable not being able to taste anything. Hope we all get better soon x

goingtotown · 16/03/2024 15:38

Day 8 sore throat gone cough still hanging around. No energy, smell or taste. Pulled stomach muscles from coughing 😩

That's exactly how I felt. 2 people in work have not tested positive and now I feel guilty for dragging myself in! But I've been testing negative so I don't get it 😕

I'm on my 3rd day. Sore throat, lost my voice and awful cough. I couldn't sleep last night with the coughing. My nose is feeling blocked up today. I've just been dosing this afternoon as feel so worn out by it

Infinity234 · 17/03/2024 15:08

My DS age 7 had it awfully the week before last, his eyelids were all puffy, he was so miserable. He kept saying his mouth hurt as well as his throat and now I’ve got it I get what he means. I feel terrible. It seemed to start with a migraine on Tuesday night than the throat stuff. Sinuses bad too. I feel very grumpy and miserable. I’m a weirdo whose temp usually runs cooler than most other people’s 35.9-36.4. It’s 37.4 at the moment which I know isn’t bad for most people but it’s unheard of for me! I did test for covid because my mum was having an op and I didn’t want to be around her if I had that but it was negative 🤷🏼‍♀️ don’t know if old tests pick up new strains though…

JJJJuniper · 17/03/2024 17:42

OP - I've got the same and same timescale too. Sore throat not as bad now but coughing (particularly at night) still awful.
I've never had a cough last this long.

starbrit · 18/03/2024 11:04

My taste and smell has mostly returned but not 100%. I lost it for 2.5 days and it's almost back. However the night and evening coughing is still here!! I can't shift it. I went to the Dr's today who was also coughing (was wearing a mask) and said there were several viruses doing the rounds at the moment. She used a stethoscope on my chest and back and said I sounded wheezy on the inside, so I have been given a course of antibiotics. Hopefully this will finally shift it!!!

She also recommended honey, lemon and hot water and also 'steaming'.

Get well soon everyone.

ViciousCurrentBun · 18/03/2024 11:07

I have also had this, on week 3 and just starting to feel human. I also lost my voice totally for a few days, have never had that before. The coughing was leading to so much broken sleep and sleeping is healing time. I managed 7 hours with no waking up last night which was wonderful, get well soon everyone.

Totallybannanas · 18/03/2024 20:12

It's very weird have you all tested negative still? On week 4 now and feeling 85% better although still croaky and very, very tired. My teeth and gums also feel very sensitive at the minute 🫤

I’m only on day 1 of whatever this is and it feels horrible! Has everyone continued to go to work?
