@Maddy70 Welcome to the thread, and sorry you find yourself here.

Can you tell us what kind of chemo you had and what sort of cancer you have? Then if someone on here has experience of that type of chemo they'll be able to help xx

Sorry yes, I should have mentioned that. I am on carboplatin paclitaxel for breast cancer

Maddy70 · 28/01/2024 05:38

lucysmam · 27/01/2024 20:08

@SewingBees yep, that's the info I've had too (already taking Letrozole & Abemaciclib). I couldn't start it until after the wonky tooth is removed & that's taken months to be organised 🙄.

Hi @Maddy70! Not sure what chemo it is you're having but I did 18 weeks of Paclitaxel with no side effects apart from being rather...erm...windy...the first week or two. & the steroid fuelled late nights/mornings. If you don't feel too bad then roll with it, but still make sure to rest!

Did you lose your hair ? I am on carboplatin paclitaxel and they said i would. If you did when did it happen? Reassuring that you didnt suffer too much !

TopOfTheCliff · 28/01/2024 06:38

@Tilllly the paediatric dose is half the adult one so you can double up. They also do chocolate flavour for kids not adults. I am on the lemon and lime which isn’t too bad. I take one with each codeine 30mg tablet which is about twice a day at present.
I actually slept six hours last night but have been up since 5am. I have done all my exercises twice already. Time for breakfast I think.

SierraSapphire · 28/01/2024 06:39

@Maddy70 I had carboplatin (1hour) and paclitaxel (3 hrs) every three weeks for gynae cancer, I cold capped so kept quite a lot of my hair, but the loss is around 2.5-3 weeks later. People tend to get achy on it not the day after but maybe some time the three days after that. Good luck!

Tilllly · 28/01/2024 07:15

Didn't notice a flavour @TopOfTheCliff -chocolate flavour sounds yuck
(I asked for Sauvignon Blanc flavour)
Ah right, so lowest dose they could prescribe in effect, that suits me 🙂
I've found one sachet of laxido a day is fine so maybe just one of this will be and if not I'll double up.

Nearly 4hrs sleep 😴 here bit grim

lucysmam · 28/01/2024 09:33

Ah @Tilllly that would put me in a grump too. Is there anyone else local to you who is driving?

Thank you @HerbalRefreshmentt . Is it a big injection?

lucysmam · 28/01/2024 09:39

@Maddy70 I didn't cold cap & started leaving a trail of shed hair after the first week - it was just like when you lose hair anyway but more of it iyswim. By week 5 there were patches & it was matting really badly & pretty much showered off my head (poor dd1 stood at the side of the shower while I deposited clumps in the bin & cried). We shaved off the rest after that - it was Prom week so didn't want to be too embarrassing for her/my friends who drove me to take photos.

No, I'm at the far end of the grp area
So nearest would do a minm half hr in wrong direction to get me

She would if I asked but she's abroad for it anyway

And I hate asking, even DH

nappybrained · 28/01/2024 12:33

@Tilllly I've got the orange flavour of Movicol. I throw in 2 effervescent tabs of cocodamol( there is a shortage of cocodamol capsules and the caplets have tried to choke me several times). I have been known to throw in a soluble orange multi vit when feeling daring and seems to balance flavour. It is nyuch gloopy though, but it does the job

TwigTheWonderKid · 28/01/2024 13:56

@Tilllly I know we all want to feel as "normal" as possible, and not beholden to people but given your circumstances and as it's not until March, could you not ask if the book group could meet at a location which is nearer and easier to get to by public transport?

TopOfTheCliff · 28/01/2024 13:58

Ooh @nappybrained we could invent Movicol cocktails. How about sparkling water and a dash of Prosecco? with mint and ice.

I am stiff and sore today but managed to get my breakfast and carry it upstairs wrapped in clingfilm to stop the tea slopping out of the cup. I’m doing my hip exercises but the next few days will be uncomfortable. It’s definitely helped though as my hip and back pain has resolved completely.

@Tilllly it sounds as though you might get to a future book group if you are prepared to accept help. That’s quite hard when you are used to being independent.

lucysmam · 28/01/2024 14:33

@Tilllly I think @TwigTheWonderKid 's suggestion is fair enough. I don't like asking for help either & keep telling everyone I'll come to them if I decide I want/need something.

@TopOfTheCliff it sounds as though your hip replacements been brilliant for you already! I hope the rest of your recovery goes as well.

I've just emptied the washing basket again 🙄 swear I wash for half the street! & spent an hour browsing nose jewellery. Dd1 will tell me off if I change it though! So I'll hold off until it needs to come out, swap for a plastic retainer, then put something different back.

I really want my diath done but that's 9mo to heal, although the piercer did say yesterday she's happy to swap for a retainer there & back again, for me.

I'm full of snotty cold. You know one of those that just makes you feel a bit blah & you can feel in your sinuses. Not good...need to be able to breathe tomorrow ffs 🙄

Edited

I think I'll suggest it for the June meet - even if the venue is near public transport, that would help instead of being at least 30m away

Tilllly · 28/01/2024 15:43

@lucysmam I've decided that there are so many pants and socks in a dark wash, there's someone living here that I've yet to meet

SewingBees · 28/01/2024 16:21

@Tilllly Check your loft!

Tilllly · 28/01/2024 16:31

🤣🤣🤣

Tilllly · 28/01/2024 16:51

My feet are itchy

Have I imagined this or is this a side effect of chemo / immuno? This I've not had a treatment since Jan 10th

lucysmam · 28/01/2024 17:02

@Tilllly same here but it's socks in the light colours wash 🤔 millions of bloody socks!

Vinted selling is going well - posted two parcels today, sold something else this afternoon. My goal of £140 ish for Taylor Swift merch is looking reachable!

EachandEveryone · 28/01/2024 17:54

I have a pelvic and abdo MRI in the morning. I’m trying not to worry but I’m terrified I won’t beable to hold my breath long enough. I hate them.

i can’t remember if you can eat or not before? It doesn’t say anything about it on the forms. I’m going to work straight after to do three hours then again on Tuesday as Wednesday I have Ct and Per scan

Tilllly · 28/01/2024 18:07

You're fine to eat

Breath holding is a few seconds

I can manage it with a great fuck off tumour in my lung, you'll be fine 😀

lucysmam · 28/01/2024 20:01

Anyone fancy going to the dental hospital for me tomorrow? Closer it gets, less I want to go.

KentishMama · 28/01/2024 20:06

Anyone fancy a head MRI with contrast, a meeting with my neurosurgeon and a pointless meeting with an oncologist whose sole job it is to refer me to someone else? Tomorrow, 12 noon onwards, I'll pay you in pizza. Or ice-cream.

@Maddy70 Paxman have published statistics on likelihood of hair loss by chemo regime and dosage, so if you know yours, you can also look it up... https://coldcap.com/scalp-cooling-outcomes-calculator/. Might be useful?

lucysmam · 28/01/2024 21:09

@KentishMama I get the feeling no-one fancies our appointments 🤔 no idea why!

I went to put back my belly button jewellery tonight...misplaced all my jewellery 🤷‍♀️ Must be somewhere very safe, it's not in with any other jewellery which is odd, I have loads of costume stuff.

TwigTheWonderKid · 28/01/2024 21:38

I'll do your MRI scan if it's just IV contrast @KentishMama If it's the drink, you are on your own; I'm not taking that diarrhea again for anyone.

I've often thought that we should all swap chasing up appointments and results for each other. I'm sure doing someone else's would be less arduous.
