Periods and anger please help

I have just sat in my car and screamed at the top of my voice several times because a car was blocking my wy in my road and showed no sign of moving towards the space I had left for it to exit, instead just flashing headlights at me for no reason (I could not pass him).

While this was annoying I do think my reaction was over the top but I am filled with an uncontrollable rage at the moment.

My periods are REALLY heavy and I am finding sleep difficult as I feel all hot and bothered.

I don't get period pains, just rage.

Is there anything I can do to level out my my moods ? PS I don't mean Yoga or meditation!)

I hope you get sorted by doc beanie.
I, at the mo, don't think there is anything medically wrong with me.
Only menatally

TimeForMe · 02/03/2008 16:20

I hope you ladies are taking your folic acid I still reccommend a good multivitamin with iron for you (both) I take one thats designed for women, it's got all we need. I will find a link for it. It wasn't expensive and it's a massive tub.

TimeForMe · 02/03/2008 16:22

Here it is. It has the RDA for folic acid in it too. HTH

Apologies if it's already been mentioned but Magnesium supplements made a huge difference to my PMS rages - to the extent that now my period sometimes takes me by surprise.

beaniesteve · 02/03/2008 17:16

ooh - yes. My sister mentioned magnesium and I was meaning to get some and some sunflower seeds today but forgot. I have iron tablets but I think I'll take them every now and again rather than every day

I have really bad PMT- I get suicidal feelings most months, and very irritable and angry. I find that exercise helps a lot. Seven Seas minerals for hormonal balance are worth trying- they contain zinc, magnesium and vitamin B6.

whirly · 03/03/2008 13:14

I am like you too - the week (or sometimes more ) my period I get very down and angry. This is only a problem at home as I hold it together fine at work / socially. It always seems to coincide with the kids being over-tired, etc and usually results in me losing the plot at least once in the week. My poor (very thick-skinned, thankfully!) DH also bears the brunt. I do regular exercise, but the worsening seems to coincide with me spending a lot of time on studying, which is making me feel more stressed than usual.
It did seem to get better when I was seeing a homeopath, but it's so expensive. I will give some of the things recommended here a try. Thanks!

babbi · 03/03/2008 22:28

Great thread ! Also a sufferer (well DH is) .Like Whirly somehow generally hold it together outside and poor DH always cops it.
Never ever lose my temper with DD who is going through the terrible twos ?? Why is that ??
Anyway I will also try these out and report back.
Thanks to all

So - I wondered about B6.

the ones I have are 10mg, plut there's 10 mg in the pre-pregnancy vitamins I am taking.

should I take more to even out my moods?

Oh Timeforme LOL at the "Lurpak moment"
I'ts not funny really, but next time I feel the red mist coming, I hope I'll remember the Lurpak and laugh instead.

warthog · 04/03/2008 11:20

i feel this, but i'm pregnant and i get these rages about once every two weeks for about two days. i think dh is going to divorce me soon.

i've been taking supplements so i don't think b6 helps me...

choccypig · 04/03/2008 11:24

I went to the doctor once about PMT, and got recommended a book which basically said cut out all wheat. I think it would have worked, but 1. it was too difficult and i have v.little will power, and 2. Now I've got menopause instead. I won't detail the symptoms of mine, 'cos it's different for everyone, and I can't be typing all Blardy day. hot face.

aintnomountainhighenough · 04/03/2008 11:31

I was searching this areas for something about verrucas and found this thread. What a relief it isn't just me. I have been quite frightened by my tempers recently, the highs and lows are so extreme. I have also heard about magnesium however am going to see my homeopath as it worked for me when things weren't great after having DD.

beaniesteve · 04/03/2008 11:33

I don't eat much wheat to be honest, I am not a bread fan.

what foods are rich in B6?

OP posts:
choccypig · 04/03/2008 11:40

Thinking back, I had a book years ago, when I used to get more the miserable type of PMT, rather than the rages. This book listed all different PMT syptoms in groups, and suggested different diets for each one. So if you got the rages, eat x
if you get the bloated feeling cut out y if you feel suicidal try eating z etc.
Unfortunately I don't remember the exact foods, and I think sent the book to charity when periods stopped.
But the one thing that worked for me was eating a daily banana because they contain magnesium, potassium and I think zinc, which were the things I was lacking.
I think it was called "Beat PMT with Diet"

beaniesteve · 04/03/2008 13:24

thank you - will hunt it down. I had a banana today

colette · 05/03/2008 13:31

really interested in this thread- I have found sepia(homeopathic remedy ) improves it a bit but will try b6 .

beaniesteve · 05/03/2008 15:36

I'm just wondering - I have B6 in my pre pregnancy vitamins (10mg) and I have some B6 which are also 10mg. Is it ok to take both?

OP posts:
whirly · 10/03/2008 12:39

Have any of the supplements, etc worked for anyone yet?! I have just bought a huge bottle of "Solgar Female Multiple vitamin and mineral formula" and my friend has bought a huge bottle of anus acstus, so we are going to see what works!!!!

beaniesteve · 10/03/2008 13:18

I've been taking them since about day 5 of my period. period has stopped now and so has the anger, but I don't think it's to do with the stuff I have been taking. Have had to stop the evening primrose oil as I am about to Ovulate and I read you shouldn't take it after ovulation?

I think I'll know for sure next month perhaps but then with a bit of luck I'll be pregnant.

OP posts:
beaniesteve · 11/03/2008 17:17

I am on day 16 of my cycle, no sign of ovulation and I am starting to get angry for no reason
I stopped with the Evening Primrose capsules as I was sure I would ovulate.

Now the postings on here about menopause are freaking me out!

I have suffered with horrendous pms with angry outbursts and intense sadness since the birth of ds2 2.5 years ago (sounds very like the PMDD mentioned by CharlieChaplin - hadn't heard that term before). Over the past 6 months I have tried a vast array of different things to try and help. I have gradually reduced my 2 weeks of hell down to a few days of feeling a bit stressed and off, but nothing like I was. The things I am sticking with that seem to work for me are:

Evening Primrose Oil - 1000mg a day
St John's Wort (can't take this if you are ttc)
Vit B complex
An accupunture treatment every 2 - 3 months
Swapping the milk I have on cereal for soya milk (still have cows milk in tea)

I tried a whole bunch of other stuff, but these are the thing that seems to have the best result. I think it's one of those things that everyone will have different reactions to thing - eg I tried reflexology and got nothing, but a friend swears by it.

Good luck to everyone trying to break free of the cycle - it's pants isn't it?

Lupins71 · 16/03/2008 17:34

I have been on prozac for this - it didnt agree with me gave me migraines but was a miracle cure for my friend, trued amytriptaline - couldnt stay awake and got more stressed because i coudnt get anything done from being so tired, so am now on paroxetine - until this week i would have said i had noticed a differance but it could just be thay im overtired from teething baby and a dd that wont let me nap without waking me up which adds to the angry feelings - off to be at 7.30 tnite and prey for 11hours SOLID sleep

beaniesteve · 16/03/2008 17:37

You were given Prozac for PMT!

Blimey!

I have 4 days to my period (unless I am pregnant and Boy 9 months of no periods, man I would love it) and so far no anger. Infact I am feeling rather chilled out . Not sure if it's the Vitamin B6 working, pregnancy or just that my pill is finally out of my system and I am now more hormonally level.

Mind you if the BF doesn't get up soon I think I might work up the energy to stamp my feet a little .
