That's it really

I am a bad mum and sent him to school this morning. He got up and said he had a headache but was happy otherwise. By 10.30 he was in tears and I left work to collect him.

He has been floppy and hot and his head and neck hurt, and he doesn't like light (though he still wanted the telly on )

He is asleep but unhappy

It has been really hard coping with him and his teething sister

Just come and pat me on the back please??

Norma,aww . Has he a temperature still?

Is he still asleep ?

And have you had a look for any rash (sorry)?

whomovedmychocolate · 07/01/2008 22:19

What is your gut feeling on this - sod what NHS bloody direct says, what do you feel. Is he feeling poorly and exaggerating/making the whole thing up or possibly dangerously ill?

Let your instincts rule on this one.

Teething is a bloody nightmare too.

lulumama · 07/01/2008 22:21

what WMMC said

long time no see, mate , xx

Twiggypiggy · 07/01/2008 22:21

I am sure he will be ok. He's probably got this nasty cold virus that's going round.

You are definitely not a bad mum. If mine are able to watch morning tv etc and they seem fine I say that they can always come home from school if they still don't feel very well. It only takes a phonecall for me to go and get them. Most times they get to school and forget all about their headache.

I am sure he will be much better in the morning.

With those symptoms i would take him to a&e regardless of what nhs said. It is unlikely to be menigitus but on the off chance that it was i wouldn't risk waiting around to see what happened. There isn't always a rash and better safe than sorry imo. Hope hes better soon.

BeeEm · 07/01/2008 22:28

Bollocks to NHS direct - if you're worried get to A&E and get hime checked. in all likelihood they'll take a look and tell you you are a mad paranoid overprotective mother and all he needs is some calpol and plenty of water - BUT - you'll know for sure and be able to sleep tonight.

He swhould go see a doctor. I wouldn't let someone who has not physically seen my child diagnose him. Take him to the ER

edam · 07/01/2008 22:30

agree with Shakey's and Lisa - I try not to be an over-anxious mother but this is one instance where I would go to A&E. Nasty combination of symptoms. Meningitis gets very serious very fast so you have to act on any suspicions.

berolina · 07/01/2008 22:31

A&E. Please.

Well I explained the whole neck and light thing, but admitted that he still wanted to watch telly - at which point they said, if he is watching telly it isn;'t meningitis

I am alone in the house with a (sleeping)16 month old and a (now sleeping) 8 year old

He had no rash and I will check him again soon

No, really, no rash isn't a reliable sign, there isn't always a rash. I know it's a bloody pain waking 2 sleeping kids but this is worrying me. Call an ambulance out.

emkana · 07/01/2008 22:36

I agree, you should seek medical help, it's too risky not to. Good luck

lulumama · 07/01/2008 22:38

let me know how he is , and if you do end up going to A&E, i am around tomorrow and could try to meet you there if you need some moral support.. i think wanting to watch telly probably a good thing, but he sounds poorly.

paulaplumpbottom · 07/01/2008 22:38

Don't wait!!!!!! Go now!!!! Can a neighbor come and look after the other two? If not take them. If it is meningitis its contageous. Go now!!! Please

He is weepy and drank some water

He is still really hot, no rash
