How long does this "not Covid virus " last?

I started last Wednesday with sore throat, got worse and started coughing Saturday. Got Covid test Monday which was negative but I'm breathless and wheezing and fed up. My head hurts and I'm knackered. Maybe I've just forgotten how being ill feels. Im feeling grumpy as chuff. Should I have a whisky?

I’m on day 12. Caught from DP. Started with a sore throat, then head cold & cough, now blocked ears & bronchitis. Temperature & sense of smell / taste completely normal, so not covid.

I’m getting bored of this…

Nearly 2 weeks for me. I still have a bit of a cough but it's nearly gone. The coughing was dry to start with and took about 5 days (and several knickers) to loosen Confused. Tested negative for c-19 but managed to pass on to my 12 year old. Hubby managed to avoid it (thankfully for all our sakes). Maybe this was man flu which I've heard is pretty rough WinkGrin

I’m 3 weeks in , possibly more as we all had some sort of sickness bug preceding this. Glad I found this thread as at wits end. And it’s helpful to know I’m not alone.
Possibly marginally better than last week but coughing makes my head explode and my bladder can’t cope with all the coughing.
I don’t think I have been ill for so long . I went back to bed at 16:00 today and surfaced for a drink and snack.
We all have it in our house .

My ds had sore throat wetc for about 10 -12 days and cough still here nearly 3 weeks later although much less
Negative pcr and lvt
Dr even tested for glandular fever also negative

10 days in here! Can't remember the last time I felt so rough... so many clear covid tests and still have taste and smell so assuming it's this horrific cold. Feel like it's finally clearing from the sinuses though.

Really? We've friends just texted + and my teen was with a positive case all Sunday afternoon so it's rife round here but I thought PCR was pretty reliable. I've not had the loss of taste thing or temp but hearing so many stories of differing symptoms now.
It will be covid- quite often pcr’s are negative if done at the beginning of infection before the virus has replicated much. I bet if you did another pcr in a few days it would be positive

Ds started 12 days ago, negative pcr 9 days ago, he is coughing almost like croup or whoopping cough. He is 17, went to doctors yesterday & got told it's viral & will clear on it's own, I was up Friday, Saturday & Sunday night when he was coughing that much he made himself sick. He is complaining of headache, aching joints, sore throat, I have been giving him paracetamol, Ibuprofen & Covinia for the cough & using Vicks Vaporub on his chest, back & soles of his feet. I started with the sore throat last night & a runny nose, I also tested negative 9 days ago on a PCR test as I had a mild sore throat then. Has anyone any idea how long this thing lasts?

I’m on day 5. Started on Saturday. Felt iffy, Sunday I wasn’t too bad, but Sunday evening I was all over the shop. Woke at 4am and booked in for a PCR for 8am. Already did an LFT which was negative. PCR came back negative.
Sore throat, aching joints, coughing hard (wetting myself doing so), headache, streaming nose and eyes. I’m still not great, so not going in to work just yet. They can bloody well cope without me.

Just woken up again this morning feeling rough as again. No change from yesterday. Had inhalers again as breathless but feel like I could sleep and sleep. Nose feels bunged up but not snotty at all. It's just a pain. Maybe it's 18 months of colds all in one nice package...

I feel awful 🤒
Started Saturday night with a sore throat, then developed a cough and today I feel like I have been hit by a bus. Snotty with a temperature but my head is killing me, my sinuses are blocked so much I have face pain and I'm so weak I can't actually get out of bed. My legs have no strength at all.

Did a LF test on Sunday which was negative but going to test again today if I can ever get out of bed.

It will be covid- quite often pcr’s are negative if done at the beginning of infection before the virus has replicated much. I bet if you did another pcr in a few days it would be positive no not necessarily it won’t. The experts have confirmed this bug is going around and have confirmed that it’s far worse because we have a reduced immunity due to lockdowns and minimal contact last year.

An increase in respiratory viruses has been predicted now for about the last year.

But tbh, most years we get some kind of horrendous bug doing the rounds, and I imagine if you did a search there will be a thread at least once a year asking if people have “had this awful bug.” It’s just because of COVID and because there was very little of this kind of thing last year that it seems as if this is a one off.

I had a cold a couple of weeks ago but yesterday started with this thing. DS had it last week and did a negative PCR. My throat is killing me and last night I was coughing so much I thought I was going to throw up.

I will do a test but not expecting it to be COVID. Although I have a hospital appointment tomorrow so need to ring them to see what the protocol is here if suffering from something at this point.

I am in heart failure so even a cold is dangerous for me as it can increase the fluid on my lungs which has its own consequences. But my dogs won’t walk themselves so staying in bed isn’t an option I have.

2 weeks for dd2 (6) to get better. She had temp, sore throat, lethargic, and now just a chesty cough but she has enough energy to get through the day . Negative PCR.

I have had a sore throat and have a niggly tickly cough for about a week and just generally feel rough. Negative PCR.

Dd1 and DH are both mainly OK (dd1 had a couple of sneezing fits and felt bunged up for a day). (They both had covid last year and if it weren't for the negative pcr (and the fact I think I had covid pre testing due to symptoms and breathing issues I had) then I would swear we had it now. We all except dd2 are fully vaccinated. So guess it must just be viral but it is awful.

My 17yo was poorly for about 5 days, sore throat, aching, coughing to the point of vomiting. All tests came back negative and luckily the rest of us were ok!

It's just a nasty cold, we've all been masked up and sterile for 18 months and our immune systems haven't had to fight anything (well those of us who have stayed covid free anyway).

I’ve just posted on the coronavirus thread. I’m exactly the same.

Had my flu jab Friday so wasn’t surprised when I felt off Saturday and Sunday. Monday I started to feel a bit worse, very itchy runny nose and sneezing, itchy throat.

Yesterday I started to feel spaced out, lightheaded, eyes taking ages to focus. My heart rate is fast so it’s stopping me from sleeping as I can hear my pulse whooshing in my ears. I’m coughing, chest feels like it’s on fire inside.

I keep having hot flushes but no high temp on my thermometer. Generally feeling like shit.

I’ve taken a daily LFT since Saturday, all negative. PCR taken and posted back yesterday.

And we are meant to be going to Greece on Saturday 😞

Yey. I've found my people. We are ill in our house too.
DW started coughing on Friday 3 negative lfts and a negative pcr- she's starting to feel a bit better now.
I started on Monday but I feel like I've been hit by all the busses- there has never been so much snot. 🙄 I'm back at work on Saturday so it's needs to hurry up and go.

Eldest DD is on week 5 with a cough that won't go away and has had a blocked nose for the last 3 weeks. She had covid back in November and honestly she looks worse now with this virus. Lateral flow & PCR have been negative.
Youngest DD has had it since last week, she was off school for 3 days and also tested negative for covid.

I have spoken to gp surgery this morning as I need steroids for my asthma as I am still wheezy after maxing out on all 3 inhalers.

The receptionists said there is loads of this going around, was lovely when I said I think I need steroids and something stronger for the sinusitis it is causing. Awaiting the pcr test place to open and a call back from gp.

Get well soon everyone. I don't drink so am mainlining hot blackcurrant and Jakemans honey and menthol sweets

Such a relief to know it's not just me {although am sorry so many feeling it}
cough has mainly gone after 5 days {but was sick 🤮} feel physically lethargic and heart is racing which is unsettling. Can manage an hour or so out of bed but sleeping for hours..

Yeah the heart racing thing? What’s that all about. The only other time I’ve experienced that while unwell was when I was very ill with pneumonia.
This feels more than a cold, I’m finding it impossible to sleep - feel like I’ve drunk many coffees or red bulls!

Also have heart racing. Covid test predictably came back negative today. Going to work tomorrow. Part of me wanted it to be positive because then you know you’ve got time off and no choice 😩

I’m going to join! Started off on Sunday with cold, now gone into full blown cold with cough, pains - done lateral flow test anc highly unlikely it’s covid as hardly been anywhere just a filthy cold 🤧4 days in and just started echinacea and vitamin c and zinc to try to shift it.
