How long for MRI results

BrowneyedGirl2 · 22/08/2021 10:14

How long should I expect to wait for mri results? As far as I know it wasn't urgent. It's been 3 weeks and not heard anything.

I hope it isn’t long. I had an mri on Friday and I hope I ain’t waiting 3 weeks to hear something.

BrowneyedGirl2 · 22/08/2021 18:50

The waiting is the worse isn't it. I'm going to call secretary on Monday. Where did you have mri? Mine was cardiac

Dh has stage 3 cancer, with his latest scan it took 7 weeks to get the report.

Biglumpycustard · 22/08/2021 20:32

I had a brain and spine.

BrowneyedGirl2 · 22/08/2021 20:40

@bloodywhitecat sorry to hear about your DH. Thanks

Hi BrowneyedGirl2 Did you ring about your mri results.

KnottyKnitting · 23/08/2021 19:10

My DH had a scan on his head recently ( middle and inner ears for unilateral tinnitus) Results took about 4 weeks.

KnottyKnitting · 23/08/2021 19:10

Just to clarify- He was notified by letter as all was well.

BrowneyedGirl2 · 23/08/2021 19:36

@Biglumpycustard I've not called yet, I just feel really anxious waiting and I don't know whether to call to chase up or not and if it's bad im thinking I'd rather not know but I can't stop thinking about it.
@KnottyKnitting was it anything that needed follow up or was all okay

I have MRI's every year (head and spine). I usually hear within 4 to 10 weeks. Can take ages!

BrowneyedGirl2 · 23/08/2021 20:06

Thanks @OnceTheyDid
Do you know, do they review the image straight away, so if it was something bad I would have heard by now? I'm kind of thinking (hoping) no news/good news

OP posts:
KnottyKnitting · 23/08/2021 20:15

@BrowneyedGirl2 no all was well - no follow up needed.

passionfruitpizza · 23/08/2021 20:19

6-8 weeks usually.

Roselilly36 · 23/08/2021 20:45

Varies so much, I have at least one MRI per year, as I am currently taking a disease modifying drug, I had MRI head on Saturday, in fact, The longest wait I have had was 12 weeks for routine MRI NHS scan, ones I have had done in the private sector, I have had the results in two days. Good luck OP, I hope you won’t be waiting for too long.

OnceTheyDid · 23/08/2021 21:23

They aren't reviewed straight away to my knowledge - although my initial MRI was and I was called the next day (bad news).

Give them a call. Won't hurt.

@Roselilly36 which DMD ?

Still not heard anything and it's 4 weeks.
Apparently it's still in progress

@Roselilly36 Lemtrada here.

OP that's frustrating for you !!

Biglumpycustard · 07/09/2021 18:16

@BrowneyedGirl2, hi have you heard back yet. It will be 3 weeks on Friday for me, still nothing.

BrowneyedGirl2 · 07/09/2021 18:23

@Biglumpycustard
No, nothing. I called the secretary today and she said the results were with the consultant and he will write to myself and GP. She kind of assured me if anything was serious I would have heard by now, but still I want to know the results. It's so frustrating.

Mammaaof · 07/09/2021 18:29

Looks like the wait for the results are just as long as the wait for an actual MRI!! Mine was done as urgent referral, and still hasn't even been looked at to be given a date for an appointment yet x

Roselilly36 · 07/09/2021 18:56

That sounds like good news OP. Keeping everything crossed for you. Hopefully, you will receive a copy of the letter soon.

Biglumpycustard · 07/09/2021 19:01

My mri took 9 weeks from the date I got referred from neurologist.

Biglumpycustard · 07/09/2021 19:05

@BrowneyedGirl2, did you ring the hospital. I’m not sure who to ring.

Mammaaof · 07/09/2021 19:45

@Biglumpycustard was that an urgent MRI??
