How long for MRI results

BrowneyedGirl2 · 22/08/2021 10:14

How long should I expect to wait for mri results? As far as I know it wasn't urgent. It's been 3 weeks and not heard anything.

@Mammaaof that's amazing news and so fast. That's all I want to know, even for receptionist to tell me. Gp said she was going to try and find out/chase it up and will give me a call back in next couple of days. Really getting fed up now.

@Mammaaof, that’s great news. You are so lucky to get your results back so quick.

Mammaaof · 10/09/2021 20:59

@BrowneyedGirl2 @Biglumpycustard I know when I heard they were back so quickly I thought it was bad news 😭 I've been so so upset and worried over the last few weeks so it's a massive relief!! I hope you both get some answers soon!! I would definitely ring the receptionist and ask, our GP you can only phone for results after 4pm x

Biglumpycustard · 10/09/2021 22:46

I think it’s going to be weeks till I hear something.😩

BrowneyedGirl2 · 13/09/2021 13:02

At what stage would you make a complaint /contact PALS? It's been 6 weeks now and Ive now started taking citalopram for my anxiety and panic attacks all because of the wait for the results.

Biglumpycustard · 13/09/2021 15:03

@BrowneyedGirl2 really they shouldn’t keep people waiting this long for results, it’s 4 weeks this so week for me.

Iputthetrampintrampoline · 14/09/2021 12:21

8 weeks for mine sorry OP everything seems painfully slow right now compounded by the anxious feelings and uncertainty it makes it hard slog. Hope you get the results fast

Panicmode1 · 14/09/2021 12:50

I phoned the consultant's secretary yesterday. Her recorded message said "up to 8 weeks for results". Meaning I have another 5 weeks to wait Sad

OldTinHat · 14/09/2021 13:00

I had one last December. Results were back in a week.

serielchanger · 14/09/2021 13:19

@BrowneyedGirl2

If it showed cancer you would be seen urgently.
If it showed something that needed immediate attention you would have been called in for an appointment.

Your initial post suggested it wasn't urgent. If the secretary has a message on her answer phone saying results take X weeks.. then you will just have to deal with waiting.

I know it's hard, but the NHS is in its knees. All you can do is let the secretary know the delay is causing you mental health issues. Knowing that will mean if they can speed things up they will.

Mammaaof · 14/09/2021 13:35

@serielchanger please don't say that as my friend waited 8 weeks to be told she had a brain tumor.

Pushkinia · 14/09/2021 15:36

Even before Covid, it was 7 weeks for MRI results in my area - and that was after phoning the consultant’s secretary, who agreed to chase it up. I would guess it’s a much longer wait for that service now.

Biglumpycustard · 16/09/2021 15:15

@BrowneyedGirl2 Hi, Have you heard anything yet or is that a stupid question.

BrowneyedGirl2 · 16/09/2021 19:35

@Biglumpycustard I have today. I contacted the secretary and she said a letter has been sent out but was able to read it out to me. It's not as bad as what they thought but there is something so I need further tests but she said the doctor said not life threatening so that has reassured me.
I really hope you get your results soon, but it is definitely worth keep calling secretary, I think they just got fed up of me calling x

desperate4spring · 16/09/2021 19:44

Well my DD is having an MRI on Monday and they are hoping to have the results ready to discuss with us on Wednesday. But she has just managed to jump a 6-month waiting-list so we get the sense it's fairly urgent.

Hopefully you will get the letter tomorrow, try not to worry Flowers

Biglumpycustard · 16/09/2021 21:01

@Biglumpycustard That is good news that you had your results, probably not the results you were hoping for but least you will get the tests you need and the treatment. I am going to ring up again tomorrow, like you I want to know what is wrong with me and I need treatment. My foot really gets me down I just want something done, just so I can walk probably again. It’s just a nightmare for me.

Biglumpycustard · 16/09/2021 21:03

@BrowneyedGirl2 That message was a reply to you, I pasted my own name lol

BrowneyedGirl2 · 16/09/2021 21:26

@Biglumpycustard to be honest it's probably the best of a bad outcome if that makes sense; I knew it was something and had been told it is highly likely to be something, and this is not as bad as some of the things they thought it could have been and I do feel relieved now just to have the results. I have been a nervous wreck waiting for these results. Fingers crossed you have some good results.

Thank you @Roselilly36

@desperate4spring what kind of MRI scan is your daughter having? I know my scan was reported quickly by radiologist but it was sat waiting for my consultant to interpret and to write to me with results

OP posts:
desperate4spring · 16/09/2021 21:34

@BrowneyedGirl2 she is having a brain scan. She is having dye put in via a cannula. I don't know any more than that, this is all new to us.

BrowneyedGirl2 · 16/09/2021 21:54

@desperate4spring I also had a cannula so they could inject the dye. It sounds scary and I was so anxious but honestly it was fine and the staff were all so lovely

OP posts:
desperate4spring · 16/09/2021 22:10

Thank you for the reassurance. She had a cannula in last week and she wasn't very happy about it! I think she knows though that it's all necessary and will ultimately help her.

honeyrider · 17/09/2021 01:52

I had an MRI on Monday and was told my consultant would have the results in 3-4 days so I expect to get an appointment in the post next week. I've been given a disc of the scan.

BrowneyedGirl2 · 17/09/2021 08:01

@honeyrider
I was told the results would go to the consultant within 2-3 days and that I'd have results within 1-2 weeks, my wait was waiting for the consultant to interpret them and then write to me with results. I waited nearly 8 weeks

OP posts:
Panicmode1 · 17/09/2021 16:48

I have just got my results - 3 weeks after the barium swallow and less than 2 weeks (would be 2 weeks on Monday) for the MRI. Luckily, there is 'no sinister pathology' which I think means no cancer, which is brilliant, but they have discovered I have arthritis in two of my vertebrae, so that's less jolly....

I hope that everyone else gets their results v soon - it's so stressful waiting.
