How long for MRI results

How long should I expect to wait for mri results? As far as I know it wasn't urgent. It's been 3 weeks and not heard anything.

Hi again.
Sorry to derail the thread but I'm so nervous about dd's MRI on Monday. She's jumped a 6 month queue and we just had a missed call from the neurologist at 10:30pm on a Friday evening to confirm her scan on Monday. Whenever we speak to anyone about her, they all seem to know who she is and it's scaring us a bit 😕
Please tell me it will be ok x

sweetfairy · 18/09/2021 05:57

Hi @desperate4spring so sorry your feeling scared, it's understandable. I had a recent mri and they called me the Friday afternoon to confirm. I was worried sick all weekend but I think it might be because the appointments are so precious they don't want to waste them so they call to confirm. How old is dd and why is she having scan x

chinateapot · 18/09/2021 08:25

@desperate4spring just popping on to send you some big hugs. Waiting for tests and results is horrible.

desperate4spring · 18/09/2021 09:06

She has had some weird changes to her vision over the past couple of weeks (blurry, sore eyes, double vision, spinning, shaking sensation).
They have tested her eyes, which are fine, so they are now investigating potential neurological causes.
She's 8.

chinateapot · 18/09/2021 09:27

@desperate4spring my little girl is 8 too and has had quite a few MRIs (next one is on Friday). If yours hasn’t had one before she says to warn her it’s really loud and gets quite hot in there - you can find YouTube videos of MRI noises which can be helpful to listen to so she knows what it’s like. You can watch TV in some scanners, others can play music so might be worth finding out about that for her too. Hope it all goes well.

desperate4spring · 18/09/2021 09:34

@chinateapot Thank you, that's so helpful! We will look at YouTube for noise, and she has been told she can take a dvd with her to watch. Helpful to know it's hot too, we'll dress her appropriately!

chinateapot · 18/09/2021 09:45

@desperate4spring also, to go back to the original topic of the thread, when my daughter had her first MRI and they did find something we were phoned the same evening. So I think, especially in kids, anything significant and worrying and you’ll likely hear very quickly. 💐

SunshineCake · 18/09/2021 11:11

I had an MRI on Friday afternoon and had the results by Saturday afternoon. I was in hospital though and couldn't go home until they knew all was okay. I hope you hear soon and all is well Flowers.

My ds has similar when he was 9. We saw Gp who said he would refer us to children's hospital and within 2 days they had offered us scan and appointment. I was terrified. Anyway, it turned out to be migraines but I totally understand how worrying it is
sweetfairy · 21/09/2021 07:03

@desperate4spring
Hope all went okay yesterday x

desperate4spring · 21/09/2021 07:20

Thank you @sweetfairy

DH took her yesterday as I've got covid 👎
It apparently went very well though and we're hoping to get the results tomorrow at her paeds appointment.

I emailed the paed secretary yesterday to ask if I can be video called into that appointment.

thirdistheonewiththehairychest · 23/09/2021 11:31

My 8yo's MRI results came back clear of all the nasty things they were on the lookout for, which is good news. And it only took 2 days to get the results.

They did make an incidental finding though, that she has a 'Type 1 chiari malformation' which means that her brain is pressing down slightly into her spinal canal. Not sure what this means for her in the long-term, other than a referral to a neurosurgeon.

I hope that those waiting get the results they are hoping for soon.

Panicmode1 · 23/09/2021 15:32

@thirdistheonewiththehairychest - so glad it's nothing sinister although sorry to hear there is another referral in the offing.

@desperate4spring I hope you are recovering from Covid/not suffering too badly with it, and that your DD's paed's appointment went well.

thirdistheonewiththehairychest · 23/09/2021 16:21

@Panicmode1 those two usernames both belong to me.

I'm not very good at this name changing malarkey! Blush

Panicmode1 · 23/09/2021 16:31

So sorry! Glad that it is nothing sinister and hope you get answers from the neurologist soon. 😊

honeyrider · 27/09/2021 23:53

My MRI results came back today, two weeks after the scan. All clear.

Panicmode1 · 28/09/2021 13:12

Great news @honeyrider

@Panicmode1

Great news *@honeyrider*
Thanks, still don't know why I suddenly developed significant hearing loss in all frequencies in one ear and it's permanent.
Panicmode1 · 29/09/2021 13:21

Oh. I can see that's not such good news 😢
