My jaws broken on top and bottom right side after I was assaulted at the weekend. I'm looking at surgery and jaw wiring and was looking for any experiences...

Poor you! I don't have any experience other than watching Grey's Anatomy but just wanted to acknowledge your thread.

WhipperSnapperSteve · 07/06/2021 19:01

Well there's something to binge-watch during my hospital stay!

HollowTalk · 07/06/2021 19:02

Oh that sounds terrible. Who assaulted you?

WhipperSnapperSteve · 07/06/2021 19:05

A neighbour, which makes reporting it to police very, very tricky.

My nephew had his jaw broken after someone assaulted him. It took an operation and an awful lot of pain to put it right.

I have had major jaw surgery (top & bottom) because of loss of bone and that was unbelievably painful. Once you leave hospital, contact your GP for a prescription of powerful painkillers i.e. Tramadol.

Bluntness100 · 07/06/2021 19:07

Op have you reported it to thr police? Why is it tricky? That’s a hugely violent assault.

WhipperSnapperSteve · 07/06/2021 19:09

No I haven't, my car would likely get damaged if I did, soured neighbouring relations etc.

OP posts:
Bluntness100 · 07/06/2021 19:10

Well he would likely be arrested and held in custody if you report it. Why did he assault you? Were you both fighting?

Unreasonabubble · 07/06/2021 19:10

Why on earth did they assault you?

Hughbert · 07/06/2021 19:11

I'd say relations would be pretty sour anyway after this. Ring the police.

Moonshine11 · 07/06/2021 19:12

Omg op! Sending lots of love to you!
It’s horrendous! You should really report to the police

WhipperSnapperSteve · 07/06/2021 19:13

He kicked off verbally at me. I told him to watch his mouth then he hit me so hard I fell over and hit my head on the floor.

OP posts:
Unreasonabubble · 07/06/2021 19:15

How do you know your jaw is broken?

WhipperSnapperSteve · 07/06/2021 19:16

Saw a maxfax surgeon today, back hospital tomorrow for panoramic x-ray and surgical plan.

OP posts:
Flaunch · 07/06/2021 19:17

He could have quite easily killed you. You need to go to the police!

proopher · 07/06/2021 19:18

I think this is past soured neighbourly relationships - you have to go to the police!!

Unreasonabubble · 07/06/2021 19:20

What did you tell the hospital staff about how your broke your jaw?

WhipperSnapperSteve · 07/06/2021 19:22

@Unreasonabubble

What did you tell the hospital staff about how your broke your jaw?

Oh that's awful for you. Things have moved in so much over the last few years I believe

Be prepared to lose 2 stone though and get yourself a stick blender. You'll be surprised what you can manage to blend Smile

OrangeSharked · 07/06/2021 19:38

This is a really serious assault OP. You need to get the police involved. They could have killed you. They will likely be arrested and held in custody, they have done serious damage.

In terms of the surgery it very much depends on what your having and what part of your face is broken. Proper wiring is quite rare these days and tends to be more tight elastics but the surgeon will know whats best for you based on the pattern of your breaks.

You will be sore afterwards, you will be swollen and bruised. You will be on a sloppy diet for 6 weeks. Like you will have reduced opening for a time and potentially some numbness on that side. The recovery is usually a couple of days in hospital and then the rest is done at home. Dont underestimate the level of damage that your neighbour has done.

Mrsmorton · 07/06/2021 19:38

Lower jaw often fractures in 2 places at the same time so be prepared there might be another one hiding somewhere that will be seen on x Ray tomorrow.

Awful for you OP and dreadful circumstances. Have the hospital not called the police in?

JennyinWales · 07/06/2021 19:39

@WhipperSnapperSteve

He kicked off verbally at me. I told him to watch his mouth then he hit me so hard I fell over and hit my head on the floor.
Please call the police, he's literally putting your life at risk! I'd call victim support as well as I have heard they have support workers that can help you when speaking to the police.
endofthelinefinally · 07/06/2021 19:40

You must report this. I agree with pp he could have killed you and the violence will escalate.
I have had jaw surgery. It took a year to recover and I had to liquidise my food for around 6 months.
I had to buy a very soft pillow and learn to sleep on my back.

WhipperSnapperSteve · 07/06/2021 19:42

You're making me realise the seriousness of this. It's his Mother downplaying the situation that's been making me think it's not that bad.

I've now reported it online, my local force will follow-up in 48-72 hrs.

You are entitled to criminal injuries compensation. Claim it, you may need it. Get in touch with victim support. Take photographs. You may have legal support included with your house insurance.
I am so sorry this happened to you.
