My jaws broken on top and bottom right side after I was assaulted at the weekend. I'm looking at surgery and jaw wiring and was looking for any experiences...

@WhipperSnapperSteve

You're making me realise the seriousness of this. It's his Mother downplaying the situation that's been making me think it's not that bad.

I've now reported it online, my local force will follow-up in 48-72 hrs.

So glad, your mother may be downplaying it as she is worried as well but nothing will change unless you get help. Really proud of you for reporting it
endofthelinefinally · 07/06/2021 19:45

Make sure you get a physio referral after surgery. Jaw injuries can cause long term back pain.

Springchickpea · 07/06/2021 19:46

Honestly it’s disgusting that a human would do this to another human. He deserves to have the book thrown at him. I’m sorry you feel so vulnerable, please be honest with the police about that. I assume you are a woman, so he is stronger than you. And you mention his mother, how is she involved? Is she your neighbour (or is it him or both)? I really hope he gets done for this. What an arsehole.

WhipperSnapperSteve · 07/06/2021 19:48

I assume you are a woman

I'm actually a man. I have significant disabilities, including ones that impair my mobility. He knew full well what he was doing.

Thank you so much to everyone who's replied and the great advice so far Smile

Having reported a couple of things online, I wouldn't bother, the response time is woeful.
Go straight to 101, whilst everything is fresh in your mind.

Hope you heal well.

HollowTalk · 07/06/2021 19:49

Oh god, that's terrible! And to feel you couldn't report it, too. I'm surprised the hospital didn't report it. Don't go talking to his mother - she sounds awful.

How old is he?

Springchickpea · 07/06/2021 19:52

@WhipperSnapperSteve sorry for the assumption, it still doesn’t make it right, and sounds like he still has a pretty significant physical advantage over you. I am sorry you have been assaulted like this.

CupoTeap · 07/06/2021 19:52

That's horrible hope you feel comfortable soon

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 07/06/2021 19:53

Holy crap. His mother doesn’t want you reporting it as she knows exactly how deep in the shit he’s just put himself.
What is your housing situation - are you in social housing?

OrangeSharked · 07/06/2021 19:55

Well done for reporting OP!

He sounds like a right nasty peice of work, as does his mother, sounds like she knows exactly what he's like hence trying to downplay it. You've don't the right thing. Im sorry this happened to you l. Good luck with the surgeon tomorrow !

musicalfrog · 07/06/2021 19:56

Is he a child OP? Is that why you hesitated and why his mother is involved?

I'm glad you reported, I hope you feel better soon.

Unreasonabubble · 07/06/2021 19:58

Blimey! If my neighbour had broken my jaw, the first thing I would have done is call the Police & an ambulance. You must be in terrible pain.

Ughmaybenot · 07/06/2021 19:59

Gosh that is absolutely awful. I’m so glad you’ve reported it, that vile man could’ve killed you, altho honestly what he has done is quite bad enough on its own.

BunnyRuddington · 07/06/2021 20:00

Once you leave hospital, contact your GP for a prescription of powerful painkillers i.e. Tramadol. please only ask for these if you need them, I didn't.

Unreasonabubble · 07/06/2021 20:01

I am concerned you would not have a lot of choice later. If you told the hospital it was because you were assaulted, they may well have reported it themselves. I don't honestly know if they have a duty to do so or, if you asked them not to report, they won't. I am still horrified for you.

Leah2005 · 07/06/2021 20:03

So many people die from one punch like this. I don't want to say you were lucky, but I hope you get my gist. Wishing a speedy recovery for you.

Unreasonabubble · 07/06/2021 20:05

@BunnyRuddington - sorry if I mislead. That was just to let the OP know that he can contact his GP if he runs out of painkillers. Mine was very happy to prescribe me more as the hospital only gave me two days worth.

And just so it is clear, after about 10 days I did not need them anymore so stopped taking them. I was happier to drive then be drugged.

But honestly, unless you have had a broken jaw or work done on your jaw, you will never be able to imagine the pain.

Lougle · 07/06/2021 20:17

Not to pile on the pressure, but I would also consider how you would feel if he does similarly to someone else and it doesn't 'just' end in a broken jaw. Reporting the assault you have experienced may save someone else's life.

I hope you can get fixed up quickly and start the recovery process.

Moonwatcher1234 · 07/06/2021 20:24

OP, as a housing lawyer I can tell you that if your neighbour is a social housing tenant, something can definitely be done in terms of getting an injunction against him - this can include banning him from the area. Please take this very seriously as next time could be even worse unfortunately.

BunnyRuddington · 07/06/2021 20:28

No need to apologise unreasonable. Think I might have come across as anti-painkillers which totally isn't true. It's been over 30 years since I broke my jaw and I still need painkillers or heat pads sometimes now. In fact being in this thread is making me think about it...

WhoWants2Know · 07/06/2021 20:30

My uncle had his jaw broken badly, and it was wired shut. He did lose quite a bit of weight, which looked well on him. It may be worth looking at meal replacement type milkshakes to make sure you get good nutrition.

RogueMNerHidesUnderBigHat · 07/06/2021 21:14

So sorry this has happened to you, Steve.

I hope they sort out your pain quickly

Honeyroar · 07/06/2021 23:03

Yes hope you’re doing better quickly Steve.

CatWithARabbit · 07/06/2021 23:16

Sending speedy recovery wishes. What a horrible thing to have to cope with. I really hope you report him and he is charged.

Catcrazy008 · 07/06/2021 23:28

I broke my upper jaw and lots of other facial bones 6 years ago.
I feel your pain.
Get your self a blender and some plastic tube. It’s amazing what foods you can suck up!
I had my mouth wired shut, not pleasant.
You will feel worse after the surgery but it’s that which is putting you back together. I was on oramorph, only liquid painkillers and antibiotics.
You can get meal replacement drinks, juices and soups from your gp. They taste pretty awful, hence the food blending.
I have healed incredibly well. No pain.
Anymore help, just ask. Good luck.
