Would anyone be interested in a chronic pain board?

Hi all,

I posted in Site Stuff but MN have recommended I post here. I've seen a couple of threads about this where MN have said they're "interested" in what's being said but nothing ever comes of it. Sometimes posts get lost here in general health and chronic pain / limited mobility doesn't come under "special needs". I thought it would be good if we had a specific board.

Would anyone be interested if MN set up a board specific to chronic pain (or similar if anyone has any alternative suggestions?

It's a shame they are not considering this. Would be very helpful (trigeminal neuralgia and other related chronic pain here!) Hope everyone is doing ok x

Akire · 08/03/2021 18:33

Hi @MummytoCSJH there are quite few threads on this here, AIBU and sure services. The latest is they are still considering and watch to see how much the space is being used.

You should see few new threads on more specific issues under General health. But please join this chat thread just to hang out and support. The more the merrier !

MummytoCSJH · 08/03/2021 18:48

@Akire thank you, yes I have just seen your post with a quote from HebeMumsnet on another thread re still considering this. Glad they are :) hope you're well!

Hushabyelullaby · 08/03/2021 19:03

Yes I definitely would! Chronic pain is so hard to deal with that it would be nice to have a place to talk with people who understand.

Akire · 08/03/2021 19:05

It has been amazing the amount of people who have come out the woodwork I counted over 80 about a week ago on one of the threads.

Sooverthemill · 08/03/2021 19:14

Chronic pain is a misnomer though because it bloody feels acute!

Akire · 08/03/2021 19:16

Very true. I often tell myself that you can’t die just From pain or that it hasn’t killed me so far so odds are I will be fine. We can end up having low expectations of the day.

GrouchyKiwi · 08/03/2021 20:09

Have had a difficult day today. Sore everywhere, especially my back. Suspect I have endometriosis now to add to everything else. Sad Period is due in a few days so all my joints are clamouring for me to note their existence.

Hope everyone is doing OK.

I just found this thread, I posted on the one in AIBU. Reading both of them has been really comforting to know there are so many others going through something similar. I don't really discuss my symptoms with anybody because I'm so used to being disbelieved so finding a community like there is here means a lot to me.

I'm doing fairly well now, some of the things I've tried must have worked but I've no idea which one. On my worst days I wouldn't have been able to type out a message this long, I'd have tried and edited a bit and given up because I wouldn't have the concentration to be sure I was making sense.
Sorry this is so long but a Chronic Pain Board would be very useful in my opinion.

No need to apologise.

It's lovely to see more people popping up here although sorry there are so many of us dealing with chronic pain.

2 days after a walk and I'm still sore. Although I'm not sure I made it worse with yoga yesterday too.

Does anyone use audiobooks? I used to enjoy reading a lot but pain means I struggle to hold books. I don't find audiobooks the same though. I can listen whilst driving but if I'm just sat down I find it odd, or I end up falling asleep listening!

I use audiobooks quite a lot ( I can have an earpiece in and sit in the dark with DD, ditto kindle app). DD is currently listening to little women on scribd ( which we find better value that audible ). She can listen to a few minutes and have it on so quietly I can hear it! She hypersensitive to noise...

I'm in a mood today. Saw the dentist yesterday, and now my jaw is absolute agony. I think where I had local anaesthetic I wasn't aware of how much I'd over extended it, and now I can't open my mouth fully (eating is fun).

Akire · 09/03/2021 09:47

I find that too, other people seem sit 20 m with jaw open same Position at dentist (I used to before myself) now after about 2m it is really painful and seems go in spasm. I have to keep asking dentist to stop so I can move it.

Audio books can help when to much pain for TV or to concentrate. I don’t mind listening same things over and over as less attention is required.

Akire · 09/03/2021 09:49

Today I’ve added period back hip and headache to the list. so it’s not going to be an over achieving day by any means. On plus side the sun is out which always makes me feel brighter.

RitaFires · 09/03/2021 09:55

@MedusasBadHairDay I'm sorry about your jaw. I had a really great dentist before who looked at my jaw and said bet you get a lot of headaches.
I moved house and had to change dentist and the new one actually got a fright when I cracked my jaw to demonstrate how bad my TMJD is. Unfortunately they're not all aware of how to treat a hypermobile jaw. I've had terrible appointments when they keep telling me to open my mouth wider and don't recognise how hard that is.

Sooverthemill · 09/03/2021 10:16

I'm sorry about your jaw @MedusasBadHairDay DD had a mouth guard fitted by the community dentist who visits ( well, pre covid) and it really helps her keep her jaw in place

Akire · 09/03/2021 23:16

@MedusasBadHairDay did you get through the day ok? Hopefully you are sound asleep by now! Had to take strong pain killers today so will get full on drug hangover tomorrow. Nothing like waking up to banging headache that last all day.

MedusasBadHairDay · 10/03/2021 07:39

The pain has started to ease off now thankfully, just feels a bit bruised. But I can open my mouth properly again, so that's good.

PaperMonster · 10/03/2021 08:23

I’ve been in agony since last evening. Did a six mile walk yesterday and was overjoyed that I can still walk that far as I’ve only been doing half that distance, but by crikey I’m paying for it now. Even my Epsom salt bath didn’t help!!

SingToTheSky · 10/03/2021 09:12

Sorry you’re suffering so much paper it’s so bloody frustrating when you feel like you’ve finally achieved something and then BAM. You pay for it ten times over.

That was me the day before, I left the house for the first time in over a week, but I think it is still side effects from the jab - doesn’t feel like usual flare up IYSWIM.

SingToTheSky · 10/03/2021 09:12

Can I be cheeky and ask if anyone knows about joint issues - popping out especially, I think?! I have started a separate thread

Oh that's tough, though well done you for doing so much!
Pantsomime · 10/03/2021 09:23

Yes please MN- chronic pain is always there, sometimes not as bad as others. It’s a never ending road we have to live with. Any snippet of new, shared, different information is helpful, hopeful and a positive help for people with chronic pain otherwise the future is endless, painful darkness filled with things we can’t do anymore. A chronic pain board for those who understand would be fabulous

PinkPlantCase · 10/03/2021 10:26

I’m feeling pretty crap today. I’m 27 weeks pregnant now and feeling more tired that I have for most of the second trimester. The pain in my neck has been pretty good for the last few weeks but I think it’s starting to flare up Confused hopefully it’s just for today.

PaperMonster · 10/03/2021 10:31

Thanks for the kind responses. I’ve had a short walk this morning to try and get moving- I’m always better moving! The problem is currently the after effects!! @PinkPlantCase I had a support for my neck last year which was useful. Also a Shakti pillow has been amazing for neck pain, but not sure if you can use them when pregnant.
