111 or can I wait for gp?

So I stubbed my toe a couple days ago and got a small cut on it. Went to work. Over the last day it's gone red, hot, swollen and very painful. I know it's infected and think there's some pus there. I'm prone to infection having had an abscess and sepsis this year oral anti biotics I am almost completly resistant to. I am also 18 weeks pregnant. So I know I need to be careful. I feel fine in myself. If I didn't I think I'd go to a&e. My problem I have autism and struggle with doctors. I also have struggled with self harm, so most of the doctors especially ones at the hospital are horrible to me, see me as a pathetic mental helath case and never take me seriously which often causes me to melt down. My gp knows me well and believe could get me the best route to help. I'm also not jumping at it cause it's a toe so a small area. I just don't know what to do and I'm pretty stressed.

111 or can I wait for gp?

Phone 111
The redness is tracking up your foot
You are pregnant
Please don’t wait

Gunpowder · 14/11/2020 19:40

I think I’d call 111 too. I think you could do with a dose of abx tonight. Can you write it down and read out what you’ve written over the phone?

Zzz1234 · 14/11/2020 19:42

Draw a line around the red area so they can see how much it's increased/decreased.
Call 111 for advice

foreverfrustrated09 · 14/11/2020 19:42

Thank you. I'm just worried as oral antibiotics don't work so if I need them it's normally IV which never happens through 111 unless I'm systematically unwell. I know I need to be careful for my baby that's what will push me to do something

Definitely call 111. It is always better to be safe than sorry. Do you have someone with you who could call on your behalf and come with you to help support and advocate for you?

Splodgetastic · 14/11/2020 19:44

Definitely needs to be seen. Is there an out of hours service nearby?

foreverfrustrated09 · 14/11/2020 19:44

I normally do have someone to advocate for me and go with me but not for today which worries me also.

That’s tracking up your foot. As you’re pregnant, I wouldn’t mess around- Id go straight to A&E. Don’t wait to feel ill.

foreverfrustrated09 · 14/11/2020 19:46

Thank you all. I'm going to ring 111 in a bit and go from there.

UniversalHadIt · 14/11/2020 19:47

Sorry OP, that was a quick response because this is urgent.

In terms of your experience with hospitals, your autism and previous mental health issues- I know it’s very hard. If you don’t have anyone who can attend with you, can you get someone on the phone, on speakerphone to listen in/ step in if needs be when you speak to medical staff?

But please do get seen.

ScubaSteven · 14/11/2020 19:47

I'd go straight to A&E, draw around it now so that you can show them if it starts to spread further (it looks like it is spreading). I'm sorry they treat you so horribly, hopefully knowing that you are definitely doing the right thing will bring you some comfort. Hope you get sorted soon.

picklemewalnuts · 14/11/2020 19:49

Make sure 111 know the score with your susceptibility to infection, and poor response to oral antibiotics.

Ask them how much more concerned you need to be, given your pregnancy.

ThelmaDinkley · 14/11/2020 19:49

Hi, I’d go to A&E. it looks like it’s tracking so I wouldn’t leave it tonight. Can a family member or friend go with you to help you. Hope you get sorted quickly

foreverfrustrated09 · 14/11/2020 19:50

I live on my own. I do have support workers who drop in but they have dropped a lot cause of Covid. I have family but ones unwell. I've been called stupid, pathetic, should just be left to get poorly, why are you here again, I went to a&e with my hupermises and was told I shouldn't be a parent that poor child (social services are actually very pleased with me and have no worries!) with my sepsis I probably wouldn't have got it if they didn't send me home. They would have sent me home again but said micro said I had to be in. I struggle
With hospitals enough. It's awful.

Changethetoner · 14/11/2020 19:52

Try not to stress. Why not contact 111 and show them the photo. See what they advise?

vixb1 · 14/11/2020 19:54

The thing is OP, what's the alternative? You've had the advice on here to go and get help and you know that's the right thing to do. You're putting yourself and the baby at risk if you don't.

Make a plan, prepare yourself to be badly treated (then it won't be such a shock) and go and do what is best for you and baby.

Really hope you're ok x

foreverfrustrated09 · 14/11/2020 19:55

I now I'm just ranting know. I am going to phone them soon just composing myself

tonyunclejohnny · 14/11/2020 19:59

Where in the country are you. I'll come and be your advocate happily. My child has ASD so have a limited experience.

foreverfrustrated09 · 14/11/2020 20:14

In lancashire. I'm just on hold now. So nervous

Thats good. Stay calm.

vixb1 · 14/11/2020 20:49

Well done OP. Hope you get some good advice.

foreverfrustrated09 · 14/11/2020 20:50

Waiting for a phone call back. Could be up to 6 hours !

Alternista · 14/11/2020 20:51

Relevant points to tell them:
You’ve had a cut
The redness is tracking up your foot
You have had sepsis in the last 12 mos
You are pregnant

You’re doing the right thing. Well done.

adagio · 14/11/2020 20:57

And if you haven’t already - draw round it (as previously mentioned by someone)
Good luck Flowers
