111 or can I wait for gp?

So I stubbed my toe a couple days ago and got a small cut on it. Went to work. Over the last day it's gone red, hot, swollen and very painful. I know it's infected and think there's some pus there. I'm prone to infection having had an abscess and sepsis this year oral anti biotics I am almost completly resistant to. I am also 18 weeks pregnant. So I know I need to be careful. I feel fine in myself. If I didn't I think I'd go to a&e. My problem I have autism and struggle with doctors. I also have struggled with self harm, so most of the doctors especially ones at the hospital are horrible to me, see me as a pathetic mental helath case and never take me seriously which often causes me to melt down. My gp knows me well and believe could get me the best route to help. I'm also not jumping at it cause it's a toe so a small area. I just don't know what to do and I'm pretty stressed.

Ouch - hope it starts to feel better soon!

foreverfrustrated09 · 16/11/2020 18:57

So I'm not happy. They are keeping it the same and after 2 attempts have up on bloods. Come back if it's worse, what for third time ! can't weight bare and in agony. I would not have the energy to come back a third time

Have you had an X-ray to check nothing is broken?

OverTheRainbow88 · 16/11/2020 19:20

What were they looking for in your bloods?

You gave up or them?

Zzz1234 · 16/11/2020 19:23

Blimey forever, from 2:30 it's starting to look like it's getting better, to 5pm when it's starting to look really bad.
Is your foot warm to touch? Do you have a temperature? Can you post a pic of both feet side by side

Zzz1234 · 16/11/2020 19:25

Does it look like it's starting to get shiny? What kind of antibiotics do you have?

foreverfrustrated09 · 16/11/2020 19:27

That's what it looks like side to side. It just keeps getting worse. The doctor admitted my whole foot was red. At what point do they take action. It was them that gave up on bloods.

(I'm not a medic)
Did they give you antibitoics?
The side by side ones don't look quite as bad as the one taken at 5pm.
Maybe measure around the top of your foot, if you don't have a tape measure use something like a dressing gown belt and mark it on that, drink lots, keep foot up.
If it starts to feel hot, look shiny, you get a temperature call 111 again as it could be celluitis starting and you don't want that.

Chester is lovely. I have Lolita the Tiger from Chester Zoo.
Hope you get sorted

Pieceofpurplesky · 16/11/2020 19:39

Leopard. Not tiger

ButterMeUpScotty · 16/11/2020 19:41

Sweet Jesus that looks awfulShock you poor thing! I don’t suppose with how far gone it is that it will help, but you could try soaking it in really hot water with salt in the water. Poor youSad

foreverfrustrated09 · 16/11/2020 19:54

It is cellulitis they've said that. the side by side one was taken at same time. Think cause of the angle. I'm on 1g of flucloxacilian I'm monitoring my temperature

DS had cellulitis after jabs a couple of years ago and was given fluclox. It took a few days to work, I remember.

How many days have you had ABs?

foreverfrustrated09 · 16/11/2020 20:00

4 days now so they should have kicked in.

So on Saturday when you first went to a&e you were already on the antibiotics? What did they say about the type you'd been given?

foreverfrustrated09 · 16/11/2020 20:09

So I had antibiotics which I started taking, this isn't weird. I've been given a small stash of 500 but it was a while ago. I'm prone to skin infections. When I first phoned 111 they said to continue with them as that's what they would have prescribed.
Oral anti bs don't really work for me so I but I have a small dose of them to start if I need to. But it's only 500.

I was asking my Initial question of 111 (who don't get my medical history) or gp as I knew it was getting beyond small infection but didn't know if it could wait for my ace gp instead. I don't think it would get to this point I have to say and I've not had an infection whilst pregnant yet.

Have you tried your GP now they’re back open?

DS was once sent home from peads A&E VERY ill, with the usual “watch and wait” advice. Instinctively I knew this wasn’t right, and I was terrified he was going to die at home because a doctor didn’t trust my account of what had happened (“anxious mum? First time mum dear?“ Sort of thing) called my GP, who asked me to take him in to them.
GP took one look at DS, called hospital, bypassed a&e, and DS was admitted direct to children’s ward. GP also gave me a letter which outlined his medical history and the GPs contact numbers including out of hours.

Sometimes having someone who knows your history can help - though it shouldn’t be that way. It’s funny how sometimes even well trained medical staff make assumptions, based on that moment they see you- often at your very worst. Scared, tired, sore...

Disclaimer: I’m not a medic either.

Do you think they could be the wrong type of abx? I know Flucloxacilin is really good for skin infections but for anything below waist I thought you needed gram negative? Maybe this was missed as you already had the antibiotics?

I know you said you can’t have lots of types of antibiotics and that you are pregnant so obvs could be to do with this too.

foreverfrustrated09 · 16/11/2020 20:22

Will try gp tommrow did try today and got nowhere.
Yea they said if I wasn't pregnant I would
have been given a different anti b but can't.

thaegumathteth · 17/11/2020 04:41

Ok if the antibiotics aren't working can you call the GP and discuss over the phone your medication options? I'd be tempted to call the pharmacy first and ask their advice too.

Gunpowder · 17/11/2020 06:24

I think that’s good advice from thaegumathteth

foreverfrustrated09 · 17/11/2020 09:38

Thank you all for as wearing my questions and being there throughout my anxieties ! It looks a bit better this morning and is less painful !

ThelmaDinkley · 17/11/2020 17:26

Hope you’re feeling better today. My mum had cellulitis on her leg and it took two lots of those antibiotics before it cleared so some infections are nasty and take a bit to respond. She’s fine now though so hope yours clears up quickly. Good luck with the pregnancy.
