Anyone else had this chesty virus?

TossACoinToYourWitcher · 25/02/2020 11:00

I haven't been to China or abroad anywhere, so let's get that out of the way first.

I have a viral chest infection (gp confirmed) and I'm on week 3 of hacking my lungs up. DD has had it for six weeks, DS and DH started with it last week. According to the GP there's a nasty bout of it going round and recovery is taking ages.

Does anyone else have it and want to share their misery with me?

Yes my whole family have had it, rotten cold and hacking chesty cough that lasts for weeks, it's miserable. The good news is I'm at the end of week 3 and it's on it's way out but it is miserable.

Emeeno1 · 25/02/2020 14:46

Yes we have all had it too for about three weeks. Pretty miserable.

lachy · 25/02/2020 14:49

I've had it. I've been unwell on and off since Christmas so I'm thoroughly fed up.

randomsabreuse · 25/02/2020 14:52

Yep. Also haven't been to China or Italy or anywhere.

Fairylea · 25/02/2020 14:54

Yep whole family has it here too. No trips to China. I think it’s Coronavirus and we’re all doomed and it’s spread everywhere and the government isn’t telling anyone Grin - half serious.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 25/02/2020 14:56

Me!
Felt rough over Christmas, flu-y thing end Jan turned into bronchitis.
10 days of antibs and just about back to normal.

schoolrummum · 25/02/2020 15:01

Me too, just been told it's bronchitis and have been given antibiotics and steroids to stop the wheezing (I don't have asthma). Got swabbed for Coronavirus just for good measure. Haven't been to any places listed as at risk but was abroad and flew back 10 days ago.

TossACoinToYourWitcher · 25/02/2020 18:11

It's awful isn't it? Seems to just go on and on.

We all had it before Xmas and I got it again after Xmas. The cough is vicious. It does ease eventually and I found benylin cough syrup worked wonders before bed

user1498572889 · 25/02/2020 18:18

I’ve had it for weeks. Had to go for an important MRI scan that took a long time. They couldn’t do it because I couldn’t stop coughing ☹️

TossACoinToYourWitcher · 25/02/2020 19:57

Oh no user1498572889 hope you get that sorted soon Flowers

Yes... Us... Week 3 here... Homeopathy.. Herbs... Vitamin c... Massage... Steaming... Oils... It is bloody horrid... And my throat :(

PeninsulaPanic · 26/02/2020 05:10

Tick. On antibiotics for it since the weekend. Niece and nephew round the corner - she had it last month, he has it this, poor little loves. Mine feels like it's responding to the antibiotics for a bit and then resurfaces with a (phlegmy) vengeance.

Hope everyone else is comfy and gets over theirs v soon Flowers

Mascarponeandwine · 26/02/2020 08:37

@Peninsulapanic I think I have this too. Raging sore throat, improved with first lot of ab’s, then resurfaced once the course had finished. Now on different second course of ab’s. Been going on nearly 6 weeks now, but my chest is clear, it’s just the throat that’s still ouch.

mrsm12 · 26/02/2020 08:39

Had it in November, took 5 weeks to feel remotely normal and another few weeks on inhalers after that. (Never has asthma before)

boogiebogie · 26/02/2020 21:18

Golly....i wonder what it is. I have never felt so unwell.

PeakFlow · 26/02/2020 21:50

I had it Dec/Jan, it lasted for about 4 weeks.
Started as a cough then also developed a sore throat, shivers, sleeplessness, fatigue, completely lost voice, it went on and on. The final straw was waking up with the room spinning and if I got out of bed I vomited. I went to GP and was given antibiotics for an ear infection and something for the vertigo symptoms.
I tried about 5 different cough medicines, cold & flu treatments etc and found not much worked. The only thing that did help a little was Jakemans cough sweets. I work in retail and can’t be coughing and spluttering over customers - the sweets helped to get me through 4 hour shifts.
Commiserations to anyone suffering at the moment. It’s miserable.

JustaScratch · 27/02/2020 06:28

I had that over November, December and January. It fluctuated up and down, but I felt bloody miserable for ages. It's finally gone now and I feel amazing in comparison! Get well soon, OP!

Theworldisfullofgs · 27/02/2020 06:35

Yep. I got it and now DH has it.

Littlepond · 27/02/2020 06:38

Been ill since before Christmas. Horrible cough. Exhausted because it wakes me up at night. Doc says “rest” 🙄

TossACoinToYourWitcher · 27/02/2020 10:09

Flowers for everyone that is suffering. I think I have pulled all the muscles between my ribs from coughing and my pelvic floor isn't holding up well Blush

OP posts:
mogloveseggs · 27/02/2020 10:27

That's what I had at Christmas and Han

mogloveseggs · 27/02/2020 10:28

Pressed send too soon Hmm
And have been convinced that it was something more than a regular virus as it would not go for about 4 weeks

Littlepond · 27/02/2020 19:51

Oh my pelvic floor which is usually fine is not coping. Im so scared I’m gonna pee myself at work during a coughing fit
