Because I would like some examples of responsible drinking as I think I am on the verge of starting to drink too much too frequently. An idea of real-life responsible approaches to it would be very helpful. Thank you.

how are you today, BarbieGirl?

meant to ask - have you read that Allan Carr book about controlling alcohol? Quite useful, though he does drone on a lot.

feeling good today as didn't drink yesterday - hope you are feeling back on track today. xx

I'm having 2 glasses of wine, or 2 bottles of beer everynight atm.
Not great I know but with the insanity of 6 young children it keeps me sane -ish.
I have been preg almost constantly for the last 10 years and have therefore had to restrict my alcohol intake for all of that time.
Now I feel like I have been let off the leash.

Interestingly enough I feel just as shite in the mornings whether I've had a drink or not.I
Sometimes wake up and regret having had that extra glass of wine the night before then I realise I actually had nothing to drink at all!!!!!!

BarbieGirl · 27/08/2007 10:18

gulp - where do I get the Allan Carr book from?

I did end up drinking a whole bottle of wine and soda last night but woke this morning feeling ok. I am used to drinking 1.5 to 2 bottles, so I guess 1 bottle is nothing .

I am seriously not boozing tonight. Someone mentioned going 2 months without the booze to detox. I will try that.

Idreamofdaleks · 27/08/2007 10:24

I find it easier not to drink than to cut down and easiest not to have it in the house at all.

Good luck!

Oh to be in a situation where I have better things to do. For the moment, I am woken up EVERY morning without fail at 5.30 by our dogs barking. It makes no difference to my day if I have a monster hangover or not. The guilt is the only difference. Over the weekend, I have actually wanted to start smoking again. What the hell's going on? I am taking NRT, but have hardly smoked in 4 years. It's a bit disquieting. Is this thread the same as the other one? Are they interchangeable? I don't know if I am ready to stop drinking yet, although sometimes I really think it is.

BarbieGirl · 27/08/2007 18:37

hellobello. When was the last time you had a drink? Sounds like you are feeling stressed at the moment.

I was going to start afresh today but have had one yes just one glass of wine. I am going to have a hot soapy bath, a milky drink and an early night.

Know what you mean about the smoking. I gave up 5 years ago but still get the urge now and again. I have had a few cigarettes in the last year or so but will never ever start regular again. Drinking is bad enough smoking and drinking OMG - really bad.

Evening

Well done Barbiegirl - you're doing great!

Hi hellobello. Do you think you would be ready to just cut down rather than stop altogether?

I've had another good day. Is this day 3 of not drinking? Have forgotten... anyway getting on fine and no desire to crack open a bottle yet. Still drinking loads of water and have even been to the gym tonight Pretty horrified at how unfit I have become. I was running about 27 miles a week at the beginning of May and then went on holiday. Got into the habit of drinking every night and it carried on after I got home. Of course I couldn't go to the gym after having a glass or two of wine so stopped going. Only managed 3 miles tonight but, ah well, it's a start. Definitely feeling better in myself - more awake and that's despite it being totm.

Well done gibberish and BarbieGirl! We're moving house at the moment and we have so much to pack. We are moving country. I have a bit of work to go to, and we are arranging a house for the winter.

I used to work at a riding school, so before babies, I was pretty fit. I remember filling out those forms about exercise in the smoking clinic, and I put down 40+ hours/week. So, I smoked like a chimney and drank like a fish. I drink a bit less now. If I drink more than a bottle it hurts!

these days, going out is a gentle toddle round the park and I rarely have the opportunity to go for a good march with the dogs. I miss that.

Anyway, I'm having a glass of wine and then supper.

gibberish · 27/08/2007 20:37

Wow 40+ hours of exercise Have NEVER been that fit!

I love the gym but (as with everything I do) become obsessional about it. Can't keep that up so I eventually give up... I'm going to try and moderate myself this time and stick at it.

hellobello · 29/08/2007 08:28

Believe me gibberish, it wasn't choice!!
