Because I would like some examples of responsible drinking as I think I am on the verge of starting to drink too much too frequently. An idea of real-life responsible approaches to it would be very helpful. Thank you.

Desiderata, seriously?

Desiderata · 23/08/2007 20:51

Yes, seriously ...

expatinscotland · 23/08/2007 20:51

God yes, saggar. That DLA form drove me to drink and cry.

I won't have whisky again till my parents come over for the month of December and buy it .

gulp · 23/08/2007 20:51

ah, yes, if dp home early enough for us to all eat together we all drink water/squash. only if we are eating after bedtime do we have wine (mainly because if we eat together it's only 5.30/6 - too early for me!)

OP posts:
gulp · 23/08/2007 20:52

and do you feel OK on it? I mean, not tired in the morning etc?

i really love famous grouse but haven't had it for years! wine makes me fat

gibberish · 23/08/2007 20:54

I have put on about a stone since I started drinking again That should be incentive enough to stop!

expatinscotland · 23/08/2007 20:54

I drank a bottle a night pre-kids.

But then, the ex and I also had a combined income of about £80,000 just for us to have fun on.

Donk · 23/08/2007 20:56

I usually have a mug of rooibos tea with my tea - or water or v. occasionally apple juice.
DH is teetotal and has tea/weak squash or on special occasions appletise type stuff.

Desiderata · 23/08/2007 20:56

DH works for a wine distribution company, so we get it for peanuts. It doesn't make me fat, and it doesn't give me a hangover.

Of course, it's way too much but I'm enjoying it at the moment!

Othersideofthechannel · 23/08/2007 20:57

I drink wine in front of the children with meals. They don't ask for it - it is Mummy's wine and not for kids. As I don't go OTT, I think it is good example for them.

Not sure I'll be doing the French thing of watered down wine when they are teenagers though.

southeastastra · 23/08/2007 20:57
Envy
southeastastra · 23/08/2007 21:00

that's my first green face. ooh i don't like it

Othersideofthechannel · 23/08/2007 21:01

Presume you are envious of Desiderata!

gulp · 23/08/2007 21:02

Yes, wine used to not make me fat pre-baby but it does seem to now!

I just am finding it hard to think of relaxing in the evening without a glass or three. But I want to not drink except on special occasions, must find the strength somehow!

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 23/08/2007 21:03

Everything makes me fat now.

But in the pre-baby days, I could guzzle wine to heart's content and not gain an ounce.

Then again, I was exercising a lot back then, too.

woodenchair · 23/08/2007 21:03

Recently realised I was drinking every day and getting through a bottle every other day but decided was too much. Am now trying to stay off it mon til wed.

I was also thinking it was becoming a bit too habitual so decided to break it before it got that way

spudmasher · 23/08/2007 21:04

Just try not drinking for one night and see how you wake up feeling the next morning.
It is great to feel all bright eyed and bushy tailed. When I have not had a drink the night before I seem to manage to get all the boring jobs done so quickly.

spudmasher · 23/08/2007 21:05

I sound like Anthea Turner...
Shall I tell you about the night I got so drunk I ended up in the tent of a man I did not know?

southeastastra · 23/08/2007 21:05

yes othersideofthechannel

expatinscotland · 23/08/2007 21:06

I agree, spud.

I used to be able to spring out of bed after a bottle of wine, but now . . . I'm old.

gibberish · 23/08/2007 21:07

I wouldn't be able to spring out of bed in the morning whether I had had a bottle of wine the previous evening or not

Desiderata · 23/08/2007 21:08

I suppose that's the thing, expat. I don't drive, so I walk everywhere. On any given day, I probably have to walk five miles, often with a toddler in a pushchair. The jobs that I do since having ds are all very physical in nature (cleaning, don't get any ideas!), and I drink pints of water during the day.

I also sleep like a log, and there's nowt like a good night's sleep!
