Hiya, just deciding what on earth to do here after my second baby. We don;t yet know if a third is on the cards but if we do I would start trying in a year or so. I don't really want to use anything like injections/implants/IUD as they are more long term. What would the more experienced of you recommend??

I think so many of us parents use condoms after having kids as you can sort of see(!) that your contraception has worked, or indeed hasnt, has anyone here used a condom and got pregnant, or is that another thread?

Titania · 18/09/2004 17:13

dont want the coil.....cant have the pill...dh thinks condoms are a passion killer (though he never used them with me!!!) so on the depo injection....FOR NOW!!!! i havent had a period for months!!!

lou33 · 18/09/2004 17:15

Kayleigh, that's how I feel about being sterilised

woodstock · 18/09/2004 19:23

Condoms for us. I have thought about inquiring into that new hormone ring.

Hated using the diaphragm.

competitionwinningCOD · 18/09/2004 19:50

ditto furry
mirena

mears · 18/09/2004 19:52

After third DS was born I went on minipill which worked fine for us. Now that family is complete I have been sterilised so don't need to think about it. That certainly is liberating but a bit too permanent really (would love it to fail!)

hmb · 18/09/2004 19:57

Hvae use, over the last 20 years (God!) condoms, the pill, diaphragm, IUD and minipill. Now sterilised. Only one I regretted was the IUD (Non hormonal type) as I bled for 3 weeks out of 4 . All the others were excellent for that point in my life. I always think that we are lucky to have so much choice.

Quackers · 18/09/2004 21:57

Gosh Mears, really! Loads of you use condoms!!! Think I'll go with my persona for a bit and see if we want a third. Then after that think I'll try mirena coil.

DH would kill me

My mum gave me an old wives' recipe that you can easily do at home without visiting doctor.

You need: baby jam poo nappies rain gin

Method:
Roll baby in jam and poo. Leave on carpet to get covered in fluff and dog hairs.

Change baby for fifteenth time in the day and bath for seventeenth.

Put 5th load of washing out on line.

Watch the rain start.

Get wet washing in and hang everywhere/leave in mouldy piles.

Feed baby (again).

Watch husband come home.

Fling screaming baby at him whilst swearing and sobbing yourself.

Pour large gin.

Go to bed.

Wake up and repeat process for another 2 years.

I've found that this method worked brilliantly for me. I imagine that most of you have found the same!!! xxx

poppyseed · 19/09/2004 19:53

lipsty!!
Failing that I would vote for the mirena coil, works a treat and I forget I have it. We had to do something as DH has developed a latex allergy iykwim!!

nikcola · 19/09/2004 20:11

injection for me no periods xxxxx

lavender1 · 19/09/2004 20:20

don't now but have always used the pill and condoms not very often..there is a minipill which isn't as strong as normal pill I think too

motherinferior · 19/09/2004 20:29

Do NOT trust your wonderful harmony with the cycles of your body's fertility. Just ask DD1

suedonim · 19/09/2004 21:18

Either crossed legs or crossed fingers here.

Loobie · 19/09/2004 21:44

Used the pill have dd to show for forgetting them, now am on depo injection but have put on !/2 stone with each injection so wont be having another one so dont know what we're moving onto probably condoms.

spacemonkey · 19/09/2004 21:45

mirena is fantastic

mazzymcg · 19/09/2004 22:06

Used pill for years and then got fed up so decided to try FAM (fertility awareness method) which DH was v sceptical about but not only kept us pregnancy free for a year, but then helped us to conceive within 3 months when we wanted to. You have to take your temperature every morning (only takes a couple of mins) and check your "fluids" (!) regularly but is really easy once you know how and if you're on a fertile day just use a condom. Excellent book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler - really fascinating even if you end up using a different type of contraception

Hulababy · 19/09/2004 22:11

Used pill for years. Stopped whilst TTC for DD, started again using Pill when she was 6 weeks. Just stopped again, after just over 2 years, whilst TTC #2.

I did find that the Pill hasn't seemed to suit me much since having DD.

AuntyQuated · 19/09/2004 22:14

hula, just noticed this - TTC 2. i thought you had decided to stop at one.
IMO 2 is soo much easier than 1. 3 yaers gap between mine and it's just perfect. good luck BDing

Hulababy · 19/09/2004 22:14

We had!!!! Well, until this last month anyway. Still no idea why.

MUMINAMILLION · 19/09/2004 22:15

Tried the pill (got pregnant), condoms (got pregnant - burst), cap (the worst, most disgusting thing ever, and got pregnant), nothing (got pregnant), the injections (didnt get pregnant but got huge), and the implant (same as the injection).

Finally - success!!!!!! DH went for the snip. Life has been bliss ever since (except I want to get pregnant again!)

AuntyQuated · 19/09/2004 22:17

DH has ahd the snip but has only had one test result back as OK. it worries me every month (well the monthes we mamnage it).
