Hiya, just deciding what on earth to do here after my second baby. We don;t yet know if a third is on the cards but if we do I would start trying in a year or so. I don't really want to use anything like injections/implants/IUD as they are more long term. What would the more experienced of you recommend??

Dh never went back for the tests - too chicken!! But 11 mths have passed, so I think it worked.

AuntyQuated · 19/09/2004 22:18

are you not worried miminamillon

MUMINAMILLION · 19/09/2004 22:19

No, Id be delighted if I had another!!!!!

blossomhill · 19/09/2004 22:19

The coil. Have had it 5 years and need to get a new one but am too scared

MUMINAMILLION · 19/09/2004 22:20

Anyway, with my track record of getting pregnant at the drop of a hat (or trousers as the case may be!) 11 months and no babies is a record. So I think its safe to say it has worked.

AuntyQuated · 19/09/2004 22:21

why did he have the snip if you would love another

MUMINAMILLION · 19/09/2004 22:23

Because I had a really bad birth with the 4th. Besides which, we cant really afford any more and at the time it was the last thing on my mind!! I dont think I will ever stop being broody, but I have to stop somewhere.

nutcracker · 19/09/2004 22:30

Using the very unreliable withdrawal method at the mo.

Before Ds it was the pill, but i used to forget to take it.

jampot · 19/09/2004 23:21

I've had dh sperm surgically stopped.

almost40 · 20/09/2004 06:30

Minipill whilst breastfeeding. Thinking about the Mirena for after weaning, sounds really great. Someone on another thread mentioned weight gain with the Mirena though.

susanmt · 20/09/2004 07:58

Initially, and after dd1, used condoms and they were fine (for me not dh )

After ds had mirena, loved it, then it fell out and I got pg before I realised.

Dh had snip just before dd2 was born, like everyone else, find it very liberating, don't want it to fail ever!

But recently talkled doc into new mirena for the no periods/no migraines advantages.

susanmt · 20/09/2004 08:00

almost40 - you can have mirena while bf, it has a lower hormone dose than minipill and it works mainly locally (where it is) rather than systemically. hth.

susanmt · 20/09/2004 08:02

Would like to point out that what happened to me with mirena is approx 1 : 200 000 chance. Not very likely. Obstetrician thinks my smear pulled it down - tip : have coil check about 1 month after smear!

v timely this. Have 2 kids and now just coming near 40. Post kids have been using condom but Dh hates it - big surprise huh? Am thinking about something hormonal. But the main reason for this is hoping it might help with the awful 3 day headaches/migranes I've been haiving since DS. I had these before and were not related to my cycle, but since DD they now last longer and come regularly on the first few days of my period. Is the minerva some type of coil? Is this better than a pill? A bit worried about cancer risks with pills at my age, or is this old hat now? And what's all this about coils being painful?? Yes I am seeing Dr soon, but value all your expertise

Titania · 20/09/2004 16:24

Joanie...i had terrible migraines that lasted for days...til i had the depo injection.....not one since then! and no periods for the past 4 months either!!! always an added bonus!!

susanmt · 20/09/2004 16:41

joanie - the mirena is an IUD which is releases a very low dose of hormones. My migraines were/are hormone related (always get them whenI ovulate) and so having the mirena, which supressed ovulation, got rid of my migraines). I know someone else (and she is 44? 45? I think) who has period related migraines and had a mirena put in 2 years ago to great effect.
Might be worth asking about!

whitefeather · 20/09/2004 16:57

I nearlt fainted after having a coil put in. Mind you it was over 12 years ago. Might be better now.

Still chose sterilisation over the thought of doing it again though.

Tortington · 20/09/2004 21:35

yes it hurts a little stinging. rather that than childbirth and ( how i see it) the embarressment of having all and sundry look up mi fandango sticking hands up there feeling around for bits of plancenta - forceps ( a man must have invented that torture contraption) and the list goes on. so i thought 3 years no fanny lookin fer anyone would do me - and i would take the 5 min pain and the first havy period to save my future shame feelings - i really felt that way!

lilibet · 20/09/2004 21:41

yes it hurt, it really really hurt

ouch
