Welcome to the new thread, and the club that nobody wants to join. Our previous thread is here

Anyone with any type of cancer is welcome. And we will hold your hand if you're waiting to find out whether or not you have cancer at all.

If you have a loved one with cancer you can get support on a different thread here

For old and new posters it's very helpful if you (re)introduce yourself in your first post with a summary of your diagnosis (chemo brain is a real thing and my memory isn't what it used to be!).

Hello lacies. Sorry I'm a bit late with the intro. I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in February this year when I was 39. Came as a surprise as no symptoms (well only minor ones like anaemia that gp put down to periods) so only got DX when went to a+e with stomach pain. Most of colon removed and four months of capox chemo. Touch wood that's it - have results of CT scan on Friday so will find out. I keep being told by medics that it is really rare to get this so young and I am very unlucky - however several of us on here are in same boat.
I have 6 yo twins and like anything to do with the sea, reading, and chocolate.
Purple hope the antibiotics are kicking in and you're feeling a bit better. Emily good luck with the tests today. Leslie thinking of you - hope you are doing ok and they've found you a less sticky pillow. Gin hope you have a lovely break - great idea to escape. Simmi sorry to hear about the nightmares. I found mindfulness (someone recommend on here) helpful with daytime panic - not sure would work for night but worth a try. There are a few apps like the calm one. Boring as heck to do but seems to work for me!

Simmi1 · 07/11/2018 10:53

Hey Taytots welcome but sorry you need to be here. Thanks for the mindfulness tips - will look into it. I am 42 and was dx with breast cancer a couple of months ago. I also get told I’m young to get it and unlucky but i also read/ hear about lots of women around this age getting it.

I’m glad you mentioned the book ranout as I’ve been thinking of getting that. I certainly will now. I won’t have the option of lumpectomy it will more be choices around reconstruction for me.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Wednesday Glitterball

TwitterQueen1 · 07/11/2018 11:21

Leslie is doing OK apparently - exhausted with broken nights, treatment etc, but heading in the right direction and hopeful of coming home soon.

Good luck for today Emily and fingers crossed for Friday Tayto Thanks

I'm glad Leslie's on the mend finally, I bet she's getting fed up now bless her. If you're managing to read this Leslie then I'm sending you a massive hug. Apologies that it's a very sweaty one Grin

I'll be in hospital for at least another 24 hours as my infection markers were 400 which is apparently very high and although the antibiotics have dropped them down to 300 and something I need another 24 of IV antibiotics and a blood transfusion as I'm anaemic and they're struggling to get me temperature down

KnickerBockerGlooooory · 07/11/2018 13:56

Whoop had my drain out today and shiny new shower proof dressings. It's the little things

Mrs I struggled to find bras my size but I got 2 in a brand called Sugar Candy that I have lived in post both ops. Not cheap but definitely good. I also wore my moulded sports bra a lot as it reduced 'jiggle' !

KnickerBockerGlooooory · 07/11/2018 13:58

Purple really sorry to hear your current news - hopefully you'll be up and at em again before too long xx

KeepCalm · 07/11/2018 14:48

@TwitterQueen1 that's good news re leslie I would send 'flowers' but my MN emojis still don't work (sad face)

Welcome @Taytotots sorry to find you here too but they're a super lot and someone here at all times....

Off for my wig apt. One of my mates is coming with me bless her. I've had a slight issue with the hairdessers being less than discreet when I first got my hair cut short in Sept so she's probably coming to make sure I behave lol

Getting a bit nervous about my second dose of chemo on Fri. I've no idea why as everyone was lovely when I went up previously.

purpleunicorns · 07/11/2018 15:07

Keepcalm there's an update to make your emojis work here

My oncologist has just been to see me and my scan results show that my cancer is stable. Such a relief after thinking every pain and twinge was it spreading

KnickerBockerGlooooory · 07/11/2018 15:30

KnickerBockerGlooooory · 07/11/2018 15:31

Ooh purple thanks for that. Couldn't understand why mine weren't working either!

TwitterQueen1 · 07/11/2018 15:36

Great news that you're stable Purple. Meh to another 24 hours but at least you'll be out soon. Blood transfusions are wonderful things btw.

Tatyto fingers crossed for Friday. Scanxiety is awful.

Thanks TQ I even get an extra week before my next chemo to make sure I've recovered enough from the infection, which means my Xmas eve chemo is pushed back by a week and I won't feel rubbish over Xmas Smile As rubbish as I feel right now today has been a pretty good day

FuzzyWhiteLegs · 07/11/2018 16:23

Delighted to hear your news purple!!

Sending love to everyone else, especially Leslie and anyone else feeling rubbish... Flowers

noodles44 · 07/11/2018 16:58

Brilliant news purple and just great that you will be dealing with the immediate aftermath of chemo over Xmas too. Hurrah!

Glad to hear Leslie is on the mend & will hopefully be home again soon TQ thanks for the update.x

I hope you got on ok at the wig appt keepcalm I found I have ended up with totally different hair for my wig than I used to have! I was bleached blonde before with a vague purple hint, now my wig is a brunette with what looks like a few highlights. I don't wear it much, but it is nice to have when you feel like being more incognito!
It is quite normal to be apprehensive pre chemo I think. Be kind to yourself, in my experience every single person on the chemo ward is lovely and all I have met have been fantastic at putting any worries to rest.

I hope everyone is having a good day. I am back in bed after a busy afternoon getting my picc line out followed by a nip into Aldi. It is the flu symptoms again. Mum has the kids, so I am giving myself a quick half hours lie down. I hope you are both ok ranout and mrstraveller and side effects are minimal. X

noodles44 · 07/11/2018 16:59

purple I meant to say it is great that you will not be dealing with the immediate after effects of chemo over Xmas, bit of a typo there!

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 07/11/2018 17:16

Purple that timing sounds much better!

Keepcalm we need a wig update when you get a chance

Emily have been thinking of you this afternoon

Flowers and Cake for everyone

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 07/11/2018 17:53

@purpleunicorns that does seem like good timing - every cloud and all that.
@noodles44 hope your symptoms clear up quickly.
@EmilyRosiEl thinking of you.
@KeepCalm let us know about the wig. I also went a bit different I had shoulder length brownish hair before I had a chopped prior to chemo but my wig is a chin length highlighted brown bob, the amount of people who have commented on how lovely it is! I was told at clinic yesterday that you are allowed a new one every six months so I fancy a auburn one!
@WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo hope your recovering well and look forward to hearing from you.

KeepCalm · 07/11/2018 19:36

Great news @purpleunicorns !

Hope you're doing ok @EmilyRosiEl

Wig shopping was a hoot, although am aware it's probably not meant to be. I took my friend, thank goodness, and they mainly had either old lady offerings or Donald Trumps!

They've been very kind and ordered in a load for me from a catalogue to try on. Hopefully they won't take too long to arrive as they shaved off what was left of my hair whilst I was in. I feel much better now and the DC are fine with it all.

Can I ask you ladies about massages?? What's allowed and what's not? Anyone?

Dulcedelecherocks · 07/11/2018 19:47

Hello lovely ladies. I've been trying to stay away and live my life pretending I've never had cancer.

My stage 3 bowel cancer was removed in March and I had chemo from April - July.

Tanto & addle hope you're both ok and apologies I only saw your post today. I had a scan in August and have another one booked in for January. I've been promised a scan every 4 months and I'm happy with that. I've been referred for genetic testing but that hasn't come through yet and I'll have surgery to remove a hernia in the new year.

Waving to everyone else. Might go back into hiding now! Xx

KeepCalm · 07/11/2018 20:04

Hello @Dulcedelecherocks please don't hide

KeepCalm · 07/11/2018 20:05

@ranoutofquinoaandprosecco every 6months?!?

That's ace! I get one free and my brother has asked if he can buy me one for Christmas!

EmilyRosiEl · 07/11/2018 20:07

Thank you so much for your help and support. I am not joining the club but just wanted to say thank you for helping me through the last fortnight when you have so much going on.

Thinking of you all xxx

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 07/11/2018 20:13

Grin Grin Flowers emily I could not be happier for you. What a massive weight off your mind.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 07/11/2018 20:15

EmilyRosiEl · 07/11/2018 20:37
