Please tell me it gets easier to get the thing out? I feel like I've just been on a fishing expedition, and mine was the one that very nearly got away

Bear down. Hard. Sit on the toilet and bear down.

It will descend.

Sorry to dive in on someone elses convo but honestly, what are they like? They fill be with repulsion but am interested to know your experience...

FrannyandZooey · 12/05/2007 20:37

Oh hello

Yes everyone says you must bear down while - what was it - flapping your lips - or so I was told

tbh I don't insert mine very high up, so I just grip it firmly and squeeze to release the seal before pulling

Wilkie, so basically, you want us to share stories about our intimate sanitary routines so you can go "uuuuurgh"? pwink]

FrannyandZooey · 12/05/2007 20:37

LOL at "pwink"

that was, erm,

Roskva · 12/05/2007 20:42

OK, I will try that next time. But I suppose I have proof that the kegels worked - it seemed to be moving in the wrong direction!

Respect to Roskva.

Wilkie · 12/05/2007 20:43

F&Z - no seriously. It sounds disgusting but I want to know what reality is like?

E.G. if you are in a public loo and it needs emptying what do you do?? Trundle out of the cubicle with your trousers round your ankles, rinse it under the tap and trundle back to insert???

FrannyandZooey · 12/05/2007 20:44

Was this the very first time you tried it Roskva? I nearly removed part of my labia on my first go, so I think congratulations are in order if all your parts are still in one piece

Wilkie you can just wipe it with a tissue or you can take a bottle of water in to the cubicle with you.

Wilkie · 12/05/2007 20:45

How do they work? Surely they leak?

Wilkie · 12/05/2007 20:46

Can you feel it inside you? (sorry but I am intrigued - you never know, I may convert. Tampons (bizzarely) give me a headache)

FrannyandZooey · 12/05/2007 20:47

No, they don't leak. You can't feel them.

Wilkie · 12/05/2007 20:47

How do you get them up there?

expatinscotland · 12/05/2007 20:47

I put mine pretty high up, but I also use a diaphragm so I'm used to fishing around up there.

Still comes down no problem wehn I bear down.

Then I grasp the base and squeeze and twist.

I cut the stem entirely off.

Wilkie · 12/05/2007 20:47

How often do you change them?

foxinsocks · 12/05/2007 20:48

I found it didn't work with super heavy flow. I know some people with heavy periods get on with it but I found I had to change it so often and every time it had to be changed, I'd look like an extra from the texas chainsaw massacre.

FrannyandZooey · 12/05/2007 20:48

You might find this page useful Wilkie

Wilkie · 12/05/2007 20:48

Fox - mine is regular flow so no prob there. Do they come in different sizes?

Wilkie · 12/05/2007 20:49

Excellent thanks F&Z, off to read it x

theheadgirl · 12/05/2007 20:54

Just a celebrity endorsment from theheadgirl. Oh OK, just an endorsement then
I ordered one from F&Z last month, and have just used it for the first time last week. No probs getting it out, but for comfort reasons I've completely cut the tail thingy off. And I think its DEAD GOOD! For removal, either grip tightly to release the seal, or insert one finger at the side to do the same thing. Flippin' marvellous.

Wilkie · 12/05/2007 21:02

Not sure not sure - still grosses me out a bit and DH is looking at the site in disgust.

Is £18.99 the cheapest you can get them?

harrisey · 12/05/2007 21:30

it does get easier - you get used to it!! Had mine 2 yrs now

I love mine (got it in right now). Gone from freaking out for3 days about bleeding all over the place (sitting down on the train, in college, in people's houses) to being secure - have never leaked. I have heavy af and used to have to change even super plus tampons/towels every 2-3 hours, but can go 6 with a mooncup even on the heaviets days. Plus period pains are much reduced - dunno why, but get through it all much better. Shame it makes no difference to PMT!!!

Dh thinks it is gross (in practice - in theory he likes the eco freindly/healthier attitiude) but he doenst have to deal with it so I dont care. When he had his own surgery (is a GP_ he advertised them inthe surgery as a hugely reduced risk of TSS with the mooncup/

Try it - you wont regret it and if you hate it they promise money back/

bananabump · 12/05/2007 21:39

Wilko- why is your DH looking at the mooncup site at all, never mind in disgust? I should think that your choice in sanitary protection is frankly none of his business...I'm sure you don't choose his razors for him!

I like the thought of mooncups, but worry about getting the wrong size and either it slipping out and then you can't send it back/resell it because it's unsanitary, or getting a size too big and walking around feeling like I'm smuggling a wine goblet.
