Skin tag self removal

BG2015 · 30/03/2018 15:41

I’ve got a small skin tag under my eye. I’ve had it for years.

Whenever I’m tired and rub my eyes a lot it can look red and a bit bruised- it’s hanging by the tiniest bit of skin. If I pull the tag (it’s quite dangly now) you can see how small the skin is.

I’m so tempted to tie a piece of cotton around it with the hope that it drops off.

Has anyone done this? I’m off work now for 2 weeks so an ideal time to do it.

I doubt my GP will do anything as it’s classed as cosmetic.

My gp advised me to do exactly that to a skin tag on ds's forehead. It worked a treat and you would never know it had ever been there.

MellyPapa · 30/03/2018 15:53

Do you just tie it and leave it or do you need to "encourage" it to come off?

SpringHen · 30/03/2018 15:57

Ive done it but its not pretty, it goes pink then black and I think took over a week to come off.

wouldnt wanna do that on my face where people can see TBH

BG2015 · 30/03/2018 15:58

I understand that it eventually just falls off as the blood supply is cut off?

(mine was on a hidden area. I got it off cause it was catching on clothes & becoming painful)

yeah but it has to die first, i.e. dry gangrene.
it doesnt look nice. it can smell if its a big un

luckiestgirl · 30/03/2018 16:01

I’ve done this a few times. Took a few days. Not on my face though.

FinallyHere · 30/03/2018 16:02

I had one, just below my eye. I twisted it on its stalk, to cut the blood supply and then left it to itown devices. Just when i decided i should have something done about it, it turned black and dropped off.

So pleased.

I had one on my lady parts, took less than 24 hours start to finish!

eurochick · 30/03/2018 16:04

I've tweezered them off, but not sure I'd do that on such a delicate area. My mum had one on her eyelid that the GP tied with cotton to remove.

MrsEricBana · 30/03/2018 16:07

My friend has had a million benign things removed and she said dermatologist said you can "shave" a skin tag off yourself with a sterilized razor blade. Not sure would fancy this near eye though.

FlaminYon · 30/03/2018 16:09

I've done it a few times but because they were in visible areas I just put a small bandaid over it. Job done.

mommybear1 · 30/03/2018 16:12

I've done this but not on my face practice nurse advice was to sterilise some sharp scissors, clean the area with antibacterial and ice it then snip. Worked a treat no infection no more sink tag.

mommybear1 · 30/03/2018 16:12

*skin Hmm

BG2015 · 30/03/2018 16:13

I’m going to get my DP to tie it off I think. When I rub it and it goes red it looks really bad, like I’ve got a bruise under my eye . So it can’t look any worse than that.

Just snip it off with clean scissors. I've done this a few times as that's what my go did when I went to her with a few

Helpnow1 · 30/03/2018 16:15

How tight do you tie the cotton? Does it hurt?!

RapunzelsRealMom · 30/03/2018 16:15

GP, not go

BWatchWatcher · 30/03/2018 16:15

Nail clippers!
Hurts though!!

Netty909 · 30/03/2018 16:15

I have had them removed by electrolysis. It is very quick, hurts a little and they went black and shrivelled up and fell off within a day.

FlaminYon · 30/03/2018 16:19

I'd never be brave enough to snip it off but that's more anticipation of pain as opposed to what the pain is actually like as others seem fine with it. Tying off with string is a bit pinchy because you have to get it tight to ensure the blood supply is cut off but I was fine with that.

Guess it's an individual thing but I'd probably go with the snipping if you can as you wont have to wait for a couple of days for it to fall off.

FlaminYon · 30/03/2018 16:21

I'm not sure if you can buy over the counter but I have a small tube of numbing cream I got from work, rub a tiny bit on about 15 minutes before tying or snipping would work. Isn't there some cream people get to use before waxing? Might be similar stuff? Lidocaine maybe?

EverlastingLove · 30/03/2018 16:22

Cotton thread will work fine , but try your practice nurse ,

this is going to sound crazy , but I worked on a cooked meats counter Saturdays whilst at school, 40+ years ago an old butcher charmed warts, skin tags , he just put it hand on one of the women who came in the shop her skin tag fell off within 2 weeks

I kid you not !

TRALALALALALALALALAAA · 30/03/2018 16:25

But for the fact its near OP's eye, I would have said tea tree oil! Apply tea tree oil to your skin tag twice a day for 2 weeks, it falls off by itself. I discovered this by accident on the internet and scoffed at it. But the skin tag on on my face was so annoying i tried the tea tree oil treatment for a joke, to my surprise it worked.

Buy a skin tag removal kit from amazon. Works perfectly.
