Skin tag self removal

I’ve got a small skin tag under my eye. I’ve had it for years.

Whenever I’m tired and rub my eyes a lot it can look red and a bit bruised- it’s hanging by the tiniest bit of skin. If I pull the tag (it’s quite dangly now) you can see how small the skin is.

I’m so tempted to tie a piece of cotton around it with the hope that it drops off.

Has anyone done this? I’m off work now for 2 weeks so an ideal time to do it.

I doubt my GP will do anything as it’s classed as cosmetic.

I had one under my eye and got rid of it my pinching it really hard with my nails a couple of times a day. It took a couple of weeks. I had tried tying a hair and cotten around it but it kept coming off.

Can’t even see the scar now.

BG2015 · 30/03/2018 16:36

I think mine is really close to falling off now! Wish I was brave enough to snip it but I couldn’t Shock

I had quite a few on my neck and the gp burnt them off. Was quick, painless, but unnervingly smelly!

bimbobaggins · 30/03/2018 17:40

I had one recently and the gp froze it but it didn’t work and a friend tied it off and it was off within days

DustyMaiden · 30/03/2018 17:42

One on neck tied with dental floss. Took about 5 days.

BG2015 · 30/03/2018 18:48

Cotton now on. I can feel it but it's ok.

I'll let you know my progress.

Good luck OP! I've always had a horrid wart like thing in my head. It's not got a middle or anything it's just there looking yuck and getting in the way. I wonder if I could try the cotton around it? Any idea? I've tried apple cider vinegar but it didn't do a thing!

smartiecake · 31/03/2018 11:11

How are you getting on BG2015? Watching with interest and debating whether to tie mine off as well

BG2015 · 31/03/2018 13:41

It's going ok. The cotton is still attached. It feels quite sore and I'm trying not to touch it.

I realised I should have taken my mascara off before DP tied the cotton around it last night.

I've attached a pic (excuse the smudged mascara)

I can see why thats in such an irritating place so close to your eye. Really hope it drops off quickly. Mine are on my neck and i hate them but am a complete wuss! I am tempted....

Cirrys · 31/03/2018 13:49

If it was elsewhere on the body I'd just snip it off myself. But if it's close to the eye and keeps getting irritated then the GP will remove it for "comfort" and to "avoid infection". My GP removed mine because it was close to the eye and I kept catching it, it was numbed and sliced off.

BlytheByName · 31/03/2018 13:59

Another skin tag on my vagina signing in.
I went to my GP who froze it and said it would fall off within days..... I waited and it didn't! I was running out of time as I had a hot date planned only 5 days later and I fully intended to get naked so I tied cotton round it.
The next morning it had swollen to the size of a marrow fat pea! After an uncomfortable day at work with the pea knocking against my M&S briefs, I got some nail clippers, ran them under the hot tap and clipped the damn thing off!
By the night of the hot date it was completely healed.
Sadly the hot date went the same way as the marrow fat pea soon after.

RoderickRules · 31/03/2018 14:07

I nail clipped one from my eyelid. The lash line. Took about a cm of lashes with it.
Just do it.
It will be fabulous after!
Takes a few seconds, if that.

MrsEricBana · 31/03/2018 18:54

Thanks so much for this thread OP. I had two small tags beneath my eye that were worrying me in case got much bigger. Anyway, I just sterilized my nail clipoers, cleaned the area with antiseptic before and after and then nipped them off!!! So pleased. Good luck with yours.

bimbobaggins · 31/03/2018 19:21

You shippers are a lot braver than me, and I’m brave.

SandunesAndRainclouds · 31/03/2018 19:25

DH had one in the same place - I tied it off with a hair (I have long hair!) a day or so later he forgot to not touch, rubbed his eye and it came off!

DullAndOld · 31/03/2018 19:27

I have one near my eye, well one near each, and I tried the cotton thing on one of them, it was so uncomfortable I took it off, and the skin tag just got bigger, well longer..

DullAndOld · 31/03/2018 19:28

eww mrs bana, I was thinking of doing that...was there pain?

athingthateveryoneneeds · 31/03/2018 19:28

I cut mine off with nail clippers. In hindsight it wasn't the smartest decision, as I didn't even disinfect them first. Shock But it came off immediately and only bled a small amount . It was near my eye/cheekbone area. Can't even remember specifically now.

MrsEricBana · 31/03/2018 20:15

No DullandOld, no pain or bleeding. Easy but I did carefully sterilize the clipoers in the gas ring and thoroughly antisepticify the area. Go for it!!

BG2015 · 31/03/2018 21:17

It's definitely much blacker this evening. When I touch it, it feels quite tender. I have to consciously remember not to rub my eye.

People have said it can take 5-7 days to fall off, I reckon it will be gone before then.

OP posts:
snozzlemaid · 31/03/2018 21:24

I've got rid of loads myself doing this. If I keep them covered with a plaster they usually take about 10 days to drop off.
The last one I did on my neck I didn't cover and it came off much quicker in bed one night. Took about 5 days.
Hope yours is gone soon.

BG2015 · 01/04/2018 20:30

Skin tag is totally black now. It feels a bit 'crunchy/brittle' and I think it will definitely fall off soon.

Wish I'd done it sooner - must've had this tag for nearly 10 years!

I had one in exactly the same place for as many years, I used the skin tag removal kit from amazon which was super easy...the feeling of relief when it dropped off was unbelievable Grin

worrybug · 01/04/2018 20:52

What about giant skin tags with thick bases -can they still be removed with string?
